I have Aspergers Syndrome(which is now called Autism in the DSM book or whatever its called even though it was already apart of the Autism spectrum its just higher functioning Autism meaning the only way you would know I have it is if I told you) and I was in a therapy group for people with all forms of Autism when I was younger. So here's the rest of the story; this family lives in my town. My husband actually grew up with the dad (who's not named John btw, I think they may use fake names for everyone on the show) and the dad has/had some issues. His mother was schizophrenic and his dad abused drugs and alcohol. As an adult the dad had substance abuse issues but then became a Christian and cleaned his act up. He actually owns a very successful construction business (at least it was before this aired.) His son has multiple disabilities and had what some would consider a traumatic childhood even at the age of 12. When you combine trauma, mental illness, and a grandmother with schizophrenia you're gonna have issues. A lot of people who know him think he made up the "demon possession" thing to get on the show because he needed more help. The problem *I* have with this is the extended version of the clip of him putting his son on the truck bed. What you don't see in this video is that he carries him, basically upside down, around 30 yards, puts him on the truck bed with his head facing down, and beats his butt so hard the kid falls face first into the gravel. Yes, dad 'slows' the fall by grabbing the back of his shirt but still. Last I heard there was an open CPS case and that video alone should be enough to get that kid out of a dangerous home life.

The father is the problem & the son needs to move in with his mom. She needs to take him & he'll start getting better. He shouldn't have any visits or communication with that dad.

K It I'm not sure on the exact timeline, I don't know the family personally but like I said my husband grew up with the dad and my best friend knows the mom so I've pieced the stories together. From what I understand dad left the picture and didn't see his son for several years after he divorced his sons mom. After he got clean off drugs and married again he recently started seeing his son again. The mother however has been trying to get her son treatment for years before all this happened with no help at all from dad. Now that he's got money and a pretty new wife he suddenly wants to act like the perfect dad. At least that's how I see it.

Juliet Jowett it could be. To me he looks frustrated with no outlet. I've worked with severely autistic people (I think his is moderate to low though) and one of the biggest reasons they would have "fits" is because they are trying to communicate something to someone and they just don't know how to get it across. That's when the screaming, kicking, head hurting begins. I think he's just not being understood, but I'm no doctor.
