Triggers for anxiety when driving

What happens if you remove or avoid the trigger? If you avoid driving anxiety by not driving, two things can happen: 1) Your anxiety can move somewhere else. This isn't my theory, it's what hundreds of people I've worked with have told me. Having anxiety is like having pressure inside you and if you don't give it an outlet (like driving) it'll find another way out. Your driving won't be a problem because you're no longer driving but now it may come out when you're a passenger, flying, in busy shops etc. Avoiding the trigger is not a solution. Some people think automatic cars or self-driving cars will help but they won't because driving anxiety has nothing to do with driving and cars. 2) You'll have to give up driving which can cause various issues. You may not be able to take public transport depending on where you live and driving often can't be avoided in some jobs. An electrician isn't going to get the bus carrying all their tools! Giving up driving sometimes brings on a whole new range of problems like feeling a failure, spending more time travelling and having to make excuses as to why you don't drive.
