On today's video, ‪@TrikeTalkin‬ will demo her favorite inexpensive gear for communicating with her team/tribe on recumbent trike rides. There are many options for cyclists today...from simply shouting-- to expensive, in-helmet coms. In this video, Grizzly Granny will share her tried and true method, which is inexpensive yet effective for easy communications on a ride with others.

MY FAVORITE WT RADIO: ARCSHELL AR-5

SHOULDER MIC:

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL: Join me, the REAL Grizzly Granny, as I ride my recumbent Sunseeker CSX "Fat Tad" trike, usually with my husband and team mate, Gary. There will be trail adventures, as well as story telling and recumbent trike accessory hacks that I have found work for me. My riding philosophy is, "Safety, Comfort, & Kindness", and I will be discussing these subjects in my videos. Although my channel is for everyone, it is "geared" for senior women, women who are new to recumbent trikes, or women who are just desperately looking for a new way to exercise and enjoy the out doors in these difficult and stressful times.
MY OTHER RELATED SAFETY CHANNEL
If you are interested, please check out my other KZbin channel, "Full Armor Life Defense for Women of Faith" at ‪@FullArmorLifeDefense‬ Here you will find lots of helpful information instructional videos on very "do-able" Personal Safety and Practical Self Defense strategies for women of all ages and physical ability.

You got a fat trike? So COOL! When you have time, let me know how you like it...and any adventures you have to share! Thank you for those wishes! We recorded this video right before my lung surgery. That was last week...so will wait for clearance from doc to ride the trails again! They ended up taking an entire lobe, so I am anxious to get back to regular life, and riding my recumbent is high on that list of "life"!

Dang you took off like a lightning bolt lol that’s that E assist at work no doubt. I think walkies are a good idea, my mom and her side of the family went on a cruise this past may and we used walkies since our phones didn’t work much while on the ocean and out of the country and found the walkies soooooo wonderful. Great idea here for rides to.

LOL, I rarely use my throttle, but these trikes are so heavy, that I love just a little "pinch" of throttle on take-off, and then get off it quickly. The only other time we use those is for climbing really steep inclines. We use either our own pedal power or maybe pedal assist 1-3 (out of 8 possible) if needed during a long ride, or other potential "health emergency"! I love having those options available, whether I use them or not. Love your idea about walkies for cruises! Thanks for watching!

Great Video. Yeah I have used walkie talkies for a while riding with my trike friends. I have used more expensive and complicated GMRS radios because I like to tinker with them and do other things with them, but GMRS works with the same frequencies that the FRS radios (like the ones you are using) use. So some of our riders can use inexpensive radios and still listen and transmit to the GMRS radios. I will suggest these radios you recommended to some of our other riders who dont want to mess with more complicated ones!

Thank you so much for a thorough review and demo. Could you please also post a link for the pouch/case you use?

Hi, Carla! I found that one at an Army/Navy surplus store years ago, and just had it on hand. I would think you can find similar items on Amazon if you just do a search on key words like walkie talkie radio pouches, military, security, or police radio pouches---- or something like that. Have your radio measurements handy so you get the right fit. Let me know if you find one that works!

It might depend on how fast you are riding but does wind noise over those Shoulder Mics ever make it hard to hear or understand each other?
@TrikeTalkin
@TrikeTalkin 25 күн бұрын
You are correct! If it is a really windy day, as we have often here in this area of the Rocky Mountains, we may change the position of the shoulder mic. It has not happened often, but if the wind begins to interfere with our radio transmissions, then we reposition as necessary on our trike, or even to our clothing in the neck area somewhere. This works fine for us. Good point!--GG

@@TrikeTalkin I agree. Made for aged or infirmed individuals who can't safely ride a bike anymore. For everyone else, they are a bad ride with so many limitations they are almost worthless.

Any suggestions on how my wife can track my ride in real time so that if I have a problem ( accident or other) she knows where to find me???
@TrikeTalkin

I used to use an app called "Road ID", and it would send my husband and family a real-time map of exactly where I was, and if I was stopped for more than 5 minutes it would send out an emergency notification to them with my exact location. I use my Apple Watch now for that. If you do a search on this subject, I am sure there are other apps that do the same thing. My daughter used Strava until they started charging, and we would see her walk/ride in real time. Let me know if you find one that works for you!
