Thank you for taking time to explain this book so well. No one locally to learn from so I'm scouting around for good wild edible books

here's a few things to try select the best type - there are many available. grow them in the best environment - some such as oyster muchrooms like cool humid areas and may be placed outdoors (I discovered these and the reasons they work from Gregs Mushroom Grower website )

Very good review of this book. I was surprised to see the blank pages, didn't know they could do that in a field guide. Thank you Josh.

Thank you Garland! I was surprised too, of course my surprise with the blank pages happened in the field so I was shocked and kind of confused. I don't think they meant to, nor cared to ever fix it it seems. Which is unfortunate. Thanks for commenting!

After I watched this video last year I bought this book. It's a heavy thick book, but very nice. Your book reviews are always so good. I agree with you, this book is definitely worth buying, even with the funky missing pages and stuff, lol.

That's great to hear you bought the book and I'm glad it's helping you out! The missing pages are a bummer for sure though.

That is a really good book review and I was fixing to order the book until I see you mentioned the blank pages in The middle. Thank you very much for the pointer, this is an in-depth book review thank.

Yeah the blank pages kinda suck. There is still a lot of information in the book though and it's a good resource even though it has critical flaws. I'm glad you enjoyed this review and hope it helps you decide on the right book for your needs. Thanks for commenting phillip!

Very good review, but you should return your defective copy with the blank pages. I’m sure they’d be happy to replace it. My copy doesn’t have any blank pages.

What does the books classify psilocybin mushrooms as? Poisonous, edible, not recommended?

Anyone suggest a better book with multi colored reference pictures? These pictures are not even colored IF we are honest. Brown and white is not in color.

Hey, I was wondering if you have a better recommendation for a field guide in north eastern us now? Thanks

Maybe the pages are blank because people died or got sick by confusing what was there with something they found and ate. That is a ton of info for 13 bucks. Best to carry a mouse with you so it can die first.

Lol, maybe I hope not though! Yes it is a lot of info for a great price, thanks for commenting!

Hi Josh, I watch your videos alot and I was just wondering if you could recommend the best books to buy to help me learn more on identifying wild edibles, I live in new brunswick Canada , Much thanks :-)
@TrilliumWildEdibles
@TrilliumWildEdibles 7 жыл бұрын
I would recommend the Peterson guides, edible and medicinal, along with Newcomb's wildflower guide for identification. They all focus on the geographical area we live in, along with Samuel Thayer's books Natures Garden and the Foragers Harvest. The last two are a lot better for uses of edible plants that are rather common and it has a lot of plants that are in that area too. I hope this helps and thanks you for asking!

Thanks Josh! I have used Peterson field guide for mushrooms often along with other books from the library. Funny that it has blank pages thru out lol that would be a little aggravating. Are you finding many mushrooms out there with this warmer wet weather we are having?
@TrilliumWildEdibles
@TrilliumWildEdibles 7 жыл бұрын
You're welcome Brenda! Yeah imagine being in the field and you're reading on a mushroom and next thing you know...blank page! Lol. No haven't been in the woods much the past couple of days surprisingly. I plan on going out tomorrow/today to see what I find and do some filming for some videos I got planned so maybe I'll see some early oysters!? Thanks for asking.

I like the Peterson field guides although I do not have one they seem like they are good books i'm looking forward to get one on wild edibles but I'm not sure which one is the best for northern US thanks
@TrilliumWildEdibles
@TrilliumWildEdibles 7 жыл бұрын
They are good books overall, each one has their cons but so does anything else. The field guides are generally divided up by Eastern United States and Western United States in the case of the edible and medicinal plant guides, but the mushroom guide covers all of North America. Unless you live in the Arctic Circle any Peterson field guide will work as long as it's for the side of the country you live on as most of the plants have a pretty wide range. Hope this helps and thanks for asking!

How much is the book? Does it tells from edible to not edible shrooms?
@TrilliumWildEdibles
@TrilliumWildEdibles 6 жыл бұрын
The book usually runs about $20 online and a little more, about $25 at a brick and mortar store. Yes it tells you edible from non edible species as well as poisonous ones. It even tells you if a mushroom hasn't been studied for edibility. Hope this helps and thanks for asking Shelray Sam!

thanks but leaving vital information out and changing from color to black and white, is a no go author and publisher should know better then to cut corners on such vital information especially when it comes to Mushrooms! can be the difference of a great meal for the family or hospital trips

dose it talk about psychedelic one and I know that's not the right way to ask but iam not sher how to spell the suff in the mushrooms that make it that way
@TrilliumWildEdibles
@TrilliumWildEdibles 6 жыл бұрын
It does talk a bit about them and the psilocybin that makes them hallucinogenic. It also talks about how dangerous those mushrooms can be, so it's a good resource for that stuff.

does it include psilocybin mushrooms??
@TrilliumWildEdibles
@TrilliumWildEdibles 4 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. It discusses various species of mushrooms, some of which are Psilocybin, some of which are not. It won't give you enough to use them properly for recreational use or medicinal use but it will aid in positive identification. So any further research will have to be found elsewhere.

Does it say where you can find each mushroom
@TrilliumWildEdibles
@TrilliumWildEdibles 7 жыл бұрын
Generally yes, except for those random blank pages obviously. It even goes so far for some mushrooms to tell you what species of trees it grows better on, so that;s nice. Thanks for asking Bobby!
