Trilogy Throwing Putters - Understable - Stable - Overstable

In this video we look at Trilogy putters that I own and try to throw them from the least stable to the most overstable. It was a good idea, but a little subjective. I tried to get the same release for most throws!

My benchmark for throwing putters (after grip/hand feel) is backhand turnover and flick approach shots. I found that if a putter feels okay in my grip when I'm throwing with power then most of them finish pretty close to the same distance, either a bit left, right, or straight. The make or break for me is when I'm throwing touchy turnovers and flicks on approach. Some discs definitely work better than others for these shots. Over a few years I've tried nearly every Trilogy putter that you have in this video. Much to my surprise the Judge has been the most consistent for me on approach, while getting really good distance driving. It also works decently well as an inside the circle putter. I guess there's a reason it's such a popular putter.

Really love the Agent, its my main putter, switched from Wardens. Throws really nicely too with a perfect mix of stability and glide. This was a really cool review.

Btw, the New Lucid X Moonshine Agent is seriously overstable, like fresh premium Envy type stability. Really happy to have in my lineup

Wow, this was a comparison I never realized I needed, but so glad that you did it! Also very nice throwing and keeping the release angle the same throughout so the comparison seems really valid. I love the Warden as I can have it in different plastics covering everything from overstable to slightly understable. The slot I've always struggled with the most has been Trilogy's understable putters. My beat in Warden is understable for a driving putter, but doesn't flip at all even on longer approaches. Somehow all of the truly understable molds just feel awful in my hand. Either they are too low profile or have just atrocious "plus rim" (I'm looking at you Swan). Unfortunately this comparison didn't really bring a solution to the problem so I guess I'll keep beating that Warden in. EDIT: You called the Hope the Honor, so maybe you can do one of those oh so popular KZbin postproduction edits with the correct name popping on the screen. ;)

Thank you, I’m not sure I’ll get to editing it!!!! Appreciate you pointing that out! Warden can beat in. It is a great feel in the hand disc! Got to put angle on it, release more flat in conjunction with the arm speed to get it to turn!

Hey big dawg, just had a pleasant surprise at a local shop with lat64 made disc kiosk. LAT64 dropped a fresh batch of zero medium classic Slammer, Spike, and Sinus! How about doing a vid on discs in that range of approach putters sometime. Or even comparing how the old Slammer is pretty much exactly the Discmania Tactic sans thumb track. Looking forward to your 2024 content regardless. Cheers.

I don't watch to the speed. for me all can be useful for approaches, from 2 to 4 speed; for example I throw the harps not very far, on the contrary my farthest putter is the Deputy. I Use Deputy (and Swan 2 reborn), a greatly affordable understable disc; some Keystone (little understable, for low throws); Pures (a lot: some understable, an opto air pure 156 g, some straight, a Zero Hard Pure 173 g or a Zero soft Pure 175 g, some more stable, an opto Pure 173 g ecc.); then, on the overstable side, a pair of harps, and a Slammer. Then more others I use less.

Good mix of approach discs! I go Retro Keystone as my least stable (the Pure rotates in), the. Opto Keystone (also rotate Opto Pure in), then I go BT Soft Harps and Hybrid Anvil on the over stable side.

My eMac Truth in fuzion X (MaCabe '22) got a dome in the middle but is flat for ways where the thumb goes so perfectly extra stable compared to the beaten fuzion I have as well... Is this a thing in the X-plastics? That being dome OR a puddle due to extra stress in the more stiff plastics?

@Iliyena87 certain “X” plastics come out with that done. I had the EMac Truth you are talking about and it few like a Verdict. I would say there is a tendency for that some on some of the X plastics, but not all.

The new putters have gotten picked up by some pros but it feels like the Sense-plastic have fallen short aside the new Grand-blend except for DD where they remake the line in the new plastics. Your feeling? I have not felt an urge for any of the new ones yet. I hvae been interested in the Keystone, its a weird feeling rim compared to some, so... round all the way around if I remember the feel...

Erik! I can feel it! I have not changed up my putting putter. I’ve been using the Dagger for about 5 years now. Circle 2+ I have been back and forth with the Keystone and Pure. Think with any of these putters, for throwing or putting, it’s all about the feel. If you don’t dig it, don’t throw it! As long as the disc is consistent, you could use any of the putters (with practice of course!).
