Here's my preferred way of trimming edge banding for quick, reliable, low-risk gouging.
amzn.to/2Ien9fM - Scraper Attachment
amzn.to/2D19g1n - Oscillating Tool
amzn.to/2D2XraL - Edge Banding
amzn.to/2FFYhL5 - Magical roll of sticky sandpaper

I’m going to try this. Looks like it’ll work ok on vinyl/melamine edge bands. Would be great if it would work on wood veneer edge banding but I’m skeptical.

Tioga Fretworks yeah I’m skeptical to. Seems like the blade may try to follow the grain. Let us know how it works (or doesn’t)

Maybe if you modify it with a wave serration like on a Fisch Wave Cutter forstner bit. That way it would have a cutting action but without a jagged tooth pattern that would likely scratch the material. I'm totally going to try that.

Thanks for the tip, it worked great... The only difference that here I can not get the Iron-in edge banding so I had to glue it all first before trimming... and I had thrown in one of the corners of my shop a Dremel multi Max Oscilating tool... same as Your Makita... Now I have more use for it... :) Thanks again for all the tips... a great value for me...

Haha, this is the 2nd video of yours I've watched (of three so far - nice vids BTW) where the sudden fear of Darwin Award viewers & or ensuing lawsuits suddenly kicks-in. Better safe than sorry I guess & I for one appreciate the lack of edit in favour of the disclaimer as it's, well, firstly it's funny & it adds something different - honesty & relatability - realism.

Haha as a cabinet maker this made me laugh. Hold a chisel on a 45 degree in and 22 up and don't hold back. 2 seconds. Block plane blades are better but most won't own one.

Do you think this would work in ABS edging used in kitchen worktops? Thinks it’s 1-2mm thick.
@KeithsTestGarage
@KeithsTestGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Gut feel no but I’d give it a try on an inconspicuous area first. Be sure to keep moving fast so the ABS doesn’t heat up and get melty.

If it doesn’t have teeth/grits I imagine it’ll do the trick as long as the bottom is flat and you don’t dig down.

Why not just by the correct tool for the job. If that hasn’t scratched that surface or the knife hasn’t damaged The edge I’ll be shocked. And blunt your chisel to boot. You tube is really dangerous place for spreading nonsense.

Because I have used this consistently and it has worked wonders! Feel free to post a rebuttal video showing that it doesn’t work. I do suspect it won’t work well for wood though as the blade may try to follow the grain. The internet is dangerous. Stay safe and if this makes you uncomfortable don’t do it.

@@KeithsTestGarage hi Keith glad you have found a method that works for you. New the you post a video was coming but I really haven’t got the inclination to do one. Nor do I want to start a my dad is harder than your dad debate. I can assure you there’s a cleaner less damaging way to finish 0.5 0.8 abs plastic edging on vinyl finished plywood. You can hand trim with a cabinet scraper in one pass same as you do with paper iron on edging then finish with 3 passes to put a finish on it. Or use the virutex laminate trimmer with a 2mm radius trimming blade. The latter is a costly machine tho. One I use on a regular.but you like that way so you do you brother all the best buddy no Ill intentions intended.
