Trimming Camellias & Creating an Easy Shade Container | Gardening with Creekside

It is that time of year to trim camellias if they need to be shaped so today I am showing you how easy it is to prune the October Magic® White Shi Shi™ camellias. While we are at it, I will give them a nice dose of slow-release fertilizer to encourage new growth which will help ensure beautiful flowers this fall. Then we are moving to the front porch to create an easy shade container to welcome a very special guest!

You’re so right about the pollen! I was driving through the Croatan National Forrest the other day and thought it was on fire for all the pollen blowing around! I kept thinking “why can’t I smell smoke if the woods are burning”? But it was just the trees doing their spring thing! Happy Friday y’all!!

I have some camelias that are over twenty ft high. Some of them got leggy because the tree was invaded by smilax green briar vines. I have cleared out all the vines. Can I give this a hard prune? They are all japonica.

I follow Tracy on Instagram, and her house and yard are beautiful! And so packed full of plants and color galore. I enjoy Tracy's lovely house and yard. Her garden house is stunning! But I will let her do all that work while I admire all she's done. Of course, she has no drinking gourd hosta planted in a refrigerator either! You both have a style that suits your personalities. Hi Jenny. Great pruning tip on the Camillas. I have two newly planted Camilla Japonicas that bloom in Spring. So your saying with these I should prune after they bloom which would be in Fall, correct?

Thank you for sharing this video. Are you by my fertilizer at the drip line of the plant, so that when it does rain in the water off, the leaves drives down the fertilizer. The method you try a Little bit closer to the root ball might work because I think you have irrigation. Cheers on all of your videos I enjoy them so much

Previously I had a white sided house surrounded on three sides with woods. It was a ritual every spring to wash with mild soap and brush all the pollen on the house siding and surrounding cement. Talk about Yellow water! It was a job, but the white house looked so bright and pretty afterward!

Jenny, would the North Pole arborvitae thrive in this shade container year-round? I assume it wouldn’t see much growth, but will the lack of sun cause it to die?

I wouldn’t say it would thrive, but it would survive. The sun conditions are full to part sun so it would need at least 4 hours of sun.
