I normally don't do comments however there comes a time when you have to take the time to write one. I'm a 3rd generation horse trainer/boarding stable owner and have been around thousands of horses of all sorts of breeds and obviously what comes with it is meeting MANY horse farriers and u sure did a WONDERFUL JOB in this video from knowledge all the way down to making a beautiful shaped hoof!!!!

Very nice job nice to see a caring farrier. Great to see you take care to get rid of the thrush. My farrier would always tell me it was my responsibility to keep at it , granted … but he wouldn’t treat it for me himself when he came. A few farriers all but one wouldn’t treat it.

I've not met a lot of ferriers who know much about it. I've had great success with H2O2 solutions in treating it.

I like how you put hoof oil on at the end, it's a nice finishing touch and something I've never seen done before by farriers. Many years ago when I had a horse, my farrier was good but never did this unfortunately.

You don’t necessarily need to. But when horses have dry/cracked/chipped walls then it helps.

@@getin3949 yeah some do some don’t. Mine believes it doesn’t help the hoof much, meaning there’s no big point in using it. However I like to oil my clients horses hooves because it looks nice. My oil also has a prevention aid against chips and cracks.

I read that diatomaceous earth kills thrush and I have been using it. It works great because it dries it out.

If the thrush is untreated will it eventually break down the frog and cause injury? Or is it more of a weakening thing where it will make it easier for other bacteria to enter in to the hoof?

it can eventually eat into the tissue to where your horse has nothing left but his/her distal cushion. Especially in areas that are really wet like the UK or the mudwest

the fungus and bacteria can even thrive in the driest conditions, even here in Arizona, in tiny deep "heel cracks", causing severe lameness.

Can you spread Thrush using your tools to another hoof on the same horse or on another horse the next time you reshoe another horse?

It's pretty much everywhere anyway. The main preventative is careful trimming and letting the hoof dry

@@dshe8637 i would expect a farrier takes care of his/her tools and shoes if they comes close to cows/hens/horses because of the risk of transmitting disease. Though I'm thinking about is bird flu but their is strangles.... in that case i would hope a farrier thinks about how to not transfer that sickness...

Usually, a horse stands on its other three feet, when the fourth is being worked on. Sometimes when a clever horse is being naughty, it will lean on the farrier - and sometimes completely knock him over! - which makes sense when you remember how much taller and heavier they are. I can only imagine how much money farriers spend on chiropractic adjustments….

good work but actually I'm so happy my hoof girl does not care for looks - as I do neither. I would be very crossed if someone would use sandpaper and oil on my horses hooves! Such nonsense would not get away with me twice.

Hi Peter I'm not sure whether when you say thrush you mean Candida Albicans? This is a fungal infection. When you say anaerobic bacteria it seems like you're talking about something else. Enlighten me.
