I've been looking through lots of channels about cutting stone manually as I'm not keen on disc cutters. Yours is the only one I have found tackling hard stone. Thanks for all the advice you have already supplied.

Thank you! As I said before, Im more into inspiring than learning others, since Im experimenting and learning myself. But you have quite a lot of possibilities to split granite with hand tools. I like the esthetic of a split stone rather than having a blade cut stone that is completely flat and smooth. A big plus is the lack of stone dust when splitting by hand 👍 Thanks for watching!

Great video. Fwiw, I prefer no music, I like to hear the stone. Thank you for taking the time to film.

Any chance of doing a vid of your hand tools? Their profiles and what you can do with them. I've watched most of your video's and enjoy your content. I'll be forging my own tooling, but be good to know what the different profiles of each tool does. Cheers

Hi! I actually don’t have any plans on doing a video on my tools, since my knowledge is quite limited I might upset real masons with my “Bro Science”. If I get in the right mood I might do a showcase. But what i would really like to see is you forging tools, that would be an awesome video 😀

@@workingstoned that’s a shame. Any info would be good. Could even get the pros chipping in (no pun intended) with some advice. I’m starting at a zero base when it comes to stone masonry knowledge. So any advice would be good. As for my blacksmithing abilities I’m a little farther along when it comes to skills as I’m teaching myself from KZbin vids. I don’t have a channel but my son does check him out. Eucalyptus Knifes m.kzbin.info/door/g-hB7A6znwImn7oZYWLr7A Cheers

I will see what I can do, having a hard time thinking of a way to make it interesting. I have a couple of projects I would love to film before the year ends. Thanks for you comments and feedback, I love hearing from people who watches my videos 🙏

Great channel. The videos are what I've been looking for, going into the details of splitting and shaping. I'll try these techniques on my basalt stones.

Thank you, glad you liked it. I’ve been busy with work and other projects, but I will try to upload some new material soon. If I understand it correctly basalt is a hard stone like granite, I have never worked with it and I have no experience to share, but my guess you will have no problem shaping it once you get the feel for the material 👍 Thanks for your comment and good luck with your projects 🙏

@@workingstoned Basalt is hard, brittle with many flat surfaces at sharp angles. It has hidden fissures caused by the lava flows that form it.

Sounds like a pretty difficult stone to shape, nothing impossible, but just hard. Great info 👍 Will you use your stones?

@@workingstoned Yes. Here in the Pacific Northwest almost all natural stone is basalt because of the volcanic activity of the Cascade mountains. It's less expensive and it looks natural.

I like that people are showing you can split and shape granite. Great but I want to see you build a vase from granite. Everyone says that the ancient Egyptian‘s built everything they had from copper tools and using grinding stones. So somebody on KZbin please build a vase that’s similar to the ones found in Egypt

Im not into the more artistic part of masonry, since I wasn’t born with an eye for sculpting and shaping. But I’ve actually seen a guy on IG who drilled granite with copper pipe. So if you can hollow out a stone, shaping it to a vase don’t seem impossible, if time isn’t an issue.
