I have been listening to this song by various artists for the last few days. Wajid Ali Shah the king of Awadh ( Oudh ) had written this at the time of his banishment from his kingdom. This was so poignant , the words had created a lump in any throat. Today when I heard this rendition the pent up dam burst and tears flowed forth. These seven or eight lines have so much of pathos and the rendition. Divine.
