Congratulations Jen should be good eating for you, I suspect it ate well on your crops. There's been a couple of times we chopped cornstalks in the spring and baled them when we were running short of bedding. Then plowed it under usually planted oats there then. That was kind of interesting what happened with the chopper.... when that happens makes a guy scratch his head for a second.

You could wait to chop and bale the stalks in the spring. That worked well for me.

Chopping stalks.... Dad had a Sunmaster chopper. Likely same width as your IH as it was for 4 row wide. It was prone to get grass and weeds wrapped up around the ends of the drums inside. It went through bearings seemingly every other year despite frequent checks to cut the grass off the shaft. Ugh.

Have you thought about putting some old wood snow fence up in a circle to use for a crib and picking the rest of your corn ? And just feed that corn first
@trinitydairy16 сағат бұрын
I haven't really thought about that.
@eeengineer885115 сағат бұрын
Back when that it what my Dad would do. They would have a 2 course (2 levels of "ricking") "crib" of ear corn (or 2 of them) in the yard for the overflow and those got ground for feed over the winter before the other cribs got opened.

Is there a difference between a flail mower and a stalk chopper?

I'm not really sure.

What was it that caused the last (2 years ago ?) barn cleaner plug up?
@trinitydairy13 сағат бұрын
Using sawdust for bedding.

Awesome video why do u mow the corn 🌽 stocks for ?? Thanks for sharing
@trinitydairy16 сағат бұрын
It helps them break down better, and they till into the soil easier.

Could you run a pressure washer hose with a sewer cleaner nozzle through the pipe to unclog it?
@trinitydairy16 сағат бұрын
I think it's packed to tight for that.
@MorganOtt-ne1qj15 сағат бұрын
Nice buck, Jessica! And you really know who your friends are, Allen, when they show up when you need help with a 💩 pump! Just curious, would running the shredder at a bias to the rows maybe be better? Looked like a few short stalks escaped. It's your place, not mine, but I was curious. I only try 5 rows with a 15' bush hog because that 6th row doesn't always get cut... Great video!👍👍

Alan, is the cob corn only for the milking herd?
@trinitydairy15 сағат бұрын
No, it will be used for heifer feed too.
@ryanbachman922714 сағат бұрын
I would be willing to bet that your plug is at the end of your pipe. There was a guy in isanti that would come out with a high pressure hose and a spray nozzle that would clean the pipe out. That is so frustrating though
@ryanbachman922714 сағат бұрын
Call fluegges or Martins they should know of someone to help you out.
@trinitydairy14 сағат бұрын
It's not at the end, we tried high pressure jetting, and got all the way to the barn, but that's when it stopped.

I sure think I would figure out another system to put down in there to many problems with that set up. I know you are a small farm but you need to start upgrading the farm or do something I know we all had to pay the price but ur equipment is whole out. Or stop farm I know it's in our blood lol. Tractors are old equipment is old you work twice as hard as most farmers
@trinitydairy16 сағат бұрын
I didn't upgrade that pump when I started milking, it's just a poor design, but that's how it goes. The dairy industry in this area could be done in the blink of an eye, so big upgrades and big debt for dairy, doesn't make sense.
