Originally came out in '81 but became really popular in America around '96 or '97 due to it's inclusion in a Volkswagon commercial.

Ha ha ha... Trio mit Da Da Da. Neue Deutsche Welle (New German wave) Classic . For non Germans very weird. A very unique band back then. Not refined musicians but rather anarchistic. But they often appeared on TV Shows that usually featured more cheesy decent people's music.

"Da Da Da" dropped when I was in high school and we weren't sure at first what to make of its inscrutable lyrics or its minimalist synth pop sound down to that Casio keyboard. But we quickly arrived at the same place you did, that the song was meant for fun more than anything else. Although there was an early twentieth century avant-garde art movement named Dada, none of that needs be known to enjoy the song. The German line "Ich lieb' dich nicht, du liebst mich nicht" translates to "I don't love you you don't love me", just as in the English sections of the lyrics.

They started as a small punk band in Northern Germany. Fun fact: it’s not a good idea to publish your address on the front of your LP cover. Moving out of the shared house due to fans showing up by busses. 2907 Grossenkneten, Regenter Strasse😅RIP Kalle+Peter

The keyboard/calculator used in the video is made by Casio. It is also the drum machine used in this song. Great choice.

Einstein A-Go-Go - Landscape is another great, slightly weird song from the early 80's ..... that will also bounce around in your head for ages.

I don't know what it is about this song , but it slaps and it always has. Also, the song "Dizz Nee Land" by Dada is amazing. highly recommend.

That song was #1 in Germany at that time, believe it or not. But the general audience never really got Trio, I think. They'd always think of them as a novelty act, you're pretty good with your analysis when you compare them to Devo, I think that's more accurate. Trio was actually a punk band on their albums while their singles sounded like this here. Kind of underrated, not when it comes to their success, but when we talk about impact and importance in German music. I love Trio. RIP Peter and Kralle.

Devo is a good comparison. It works straight or as a novelty song.
