Really nice video. Looking forward to the next ones in this mini-series. The meal looked a bit light for a gulf carrier, maybe a bit of cost cutting? Still better than anything you'd get on a short flight in the States.

A bit light? That flight was only 45 mins long. There is simply no time to go all out on a meal service.

It’s only 10 minutes at cruising altitude, and had the plane been full with 260 Economy customers there is barely time for more! But then I’ve also heard stories how Qatar and Emirates used to serve hot meals between Doha and Dubai back in the 90’s (same duration). How they did it, no idea🤷🏻‍♂️

@@TheLayoverAviation Emirates flies Dubai-Harare with a stop in Lusaka. They do service on the Lusaka-Harare flight (40 mins flight time) sandwich rolls, nuts drink, tea, coffee even in-flight shopping. It's madness because it's so rushed. Don't see how they could possibly do a full meal service. By the time the coffee comes captain announces descent. But that's the middle eastern carriers for you.

The seat looked decent for econ. The snack on the other hand not so much. But considering how short the flight was it's still pretty nice to get service at all. The shortest flight with service I took was DXB - Abu Dhabi on Qatar in a Qsuite. I was amazed at the full service they provided to everyone. Seemed like we started our descent when we got our food lol.

Thanks for writing Miles! Yes it’s insane how much gets done on such a short flight, specially in Qsuites. I will take Qatar soon between Dubai and Doha. I think that they are the only ones of the Gulf Carriers serving a partially hot snack on such a short flight, if memory serves me well. Lounge access, welcome drinks, etc, quite the value for your buck!

@@TheLayoverAviation I have flown SIA 4 times in the past 3 months and these were all 7 hour long flights. I wouldn’t recommend it above emirates or maybe etihad. The meals for the first time were disappointing and the IFE was quite boring but it stilll is an amazing airline

Flying into Harare I've noticed a couple of times reverse thrust not being asked at all in landing. Still don't understand why. Now I'm learning something new. "Idle reverse".

I remember that Harare has a very long runway, so there is rarely any need for full reverse. Even when you don’t hear the reverse, they use it 99.8% of the time, but on “idle”. It basically shuts some little panels behind the engine and cuts the forward thrust. Reverse always used because when it’s set to “idle” it takes less time to set it to full reverse, should it suddenly be required, as the reverser process already started.You saved yourself some useful 4-5 seconds in an emergency!

777-200LR from Bahrain to Dubai - is there another flight out there with a greater discrepancy between a plane's range and the length of the flight?!?!?

Yes there is, Max! Dubai to Muscat😄. It’s the smallest plane Emirates has, so when you don’t need all the seats the B777-200LR is as good as it gets!

Nice having you around again! so, if it’s hard to give a note on such a short flight but I’ll give you you numbers on my overall flights in economy class: Seat Amenities: 8/10 Seat Comfort: 8.5/10 IFE: 8.5/10 Cabin Crew: 9/10 Livery: 9.5/10 (what a creative and elegant livery) Interior design : 9/10 High scores, but Etihad improved incredibly much and mostly operates only the most modern aircraft so the product is quite consisten.. As of 13 December 2022 Etihad does not have a premium economy class.

I know some Middle Eastern airlines do if the layover time exceeds X amount of time or to X destinations, I unfortunately don’t know it exactly in your case with Etihad. I would ask them!
