This matches my experience on this flight last May. AA economy is pretty much just taking a bus to london. I also sat in that seat (on the other side) and found that it was offset from the seat ahead which made the leg space a bit uncomfortable.

So you have experienced the joy that is American Airlines! I have flown this route twice with AA and both flights were shocking. I don’t know what it is about their Miami based cabin crew but they are so bloody miserable and look they have been dragged through a hedge backwards, scruffy and undeserving of their Role. I choose BA now on any transatlantic flight, the food, service and friendly cabin crew put American to shame.

Big mistake flying AA long haul. I fly AA regularly but only east coast regional flights, and they’re good at it. I even avoid flying AA for transcontinental travel. Although I am AA status holder now, my expectations are pretty low.

Did you said it's your 100th flights in total that you ever flew on your video or in 2024? Do you remember how many flights and countries you travel and visit in 2024, including visiting new city and countries and revisit and top 3 most flown airlines and aircraft types?

What date you fllm, is that your 1st time flying almost empty flight on a red eye flight, how many hours do you sleep on the plane, do you remember the price, did you check in your luggage or carry on, is the luggage policy strict, does it include seat selection for free or a fee, how's passport control for entering and visiting London, how long is the wait, did you take uber taxi to the hotel in London and enjoy your trip and how's Miami?

Flew from Dallas to Heathrow on AA recently. The food was atrocious. You could fit the main course in 2 matchboxes. Catering on BA on the LHR/DFW leg was superb.

Thanks for the video. You were so shocked by the goings-on that you forgot to acknowledge the rumble of the mighty GE-90 during start-up. That has not happened since I subscribed to your channel two years ago! F/As must be at their stations at all times during take-off and landing. Regarding the other habits (phone, no tie and frappuccino), I think it comes down to poor work culture, training and ethics. Lastly, discussing religious paraphernalia can be emotive but would like to hear from you. What are the standards/ethics that govern religious paraphernalia in a work place, especially when it is not part of the uniform?
@TheLayoverAviation

So many good points you mentioned.. And yes, usually I focus on the aviation related things but I was shocked by the poor work culture at AA and was regretting flying there since the moment I sat down. Regarding religion, I think everyone is free to express whatever they want and believe in. But that Cross was gigantic, a good 10cm big. It’s more of making a statement. I’m Christian myself and used to wear a small Rosary since my first Communion, but neatly tucked under my t-shirt. Specially at work. Anyway, that was the least of my problems. Safety was the drop that made the glass spill.

I flew with AA back in July last year, I went from LAX to LHR in premium economy, It was a overnight flight and the head rest wouldn't support head so I only had a couple of hours of sleep. Also my remote for the entertainment was jammed in, so one of the flight attendants had to get a pocket knife and pry it open. Overall not the best experience but the staff were friendly.

I deliberately avoid flying with either American or United. Horrendous customer service. I have flown with United several times and each time the service got worse. Let’s not even talk about the meal they serve. I wouldn’t even feed that to my dogs. Emirates will always be the king 👑

I too have to compare it to Emirates, as it’s my local carrier. I don’t mind a bad airline, it’s fine. What I strongly dislike is rude or unprofessional staff.. And that’s an attitude problem.

I've had to fly AA over a million miles due to work and there was no escaping from this airline so I've come to a few conclusions. They're just a means to get from point A to point B, nothing more. Their corporate culture is not customer centric whatsoever, mostly by their ground staff and, ironically, their customer service department. So pray everything goes well. Being perfectly fair, I've had some amazing crews (not the fake American friendliness) though they were the exception to the rule. It does matter where the crew is based being MIA and JFK crews the worst ones, DFW crews were better. Their airplanes are mediocre, they simply feel average with some even feeling old. Food is a big no no even for long haul business class. Wasn't AA the ones who eliminated 1 olive from their salads just to reduce annual expenses?.... Their movie selection is pretty reasonable, one can surely find 2 or 3 good ones. Wifi is a total rip off so do enjoy the time being off the grid. Safety procedures: I must admit I was surprised they were so careless during this flight, I was never concerned about safety being disregarded. Loos: they serve their purpose on AA and are kept mostly clean. Don't expect any extras to the bare minimums even when flying at the front of the plane. Again, a very mediocre airline. Avoid them if you can.

I loved your comment, thank you very much. Very constructive and obviously written by an expert. The movie selection was great, just lost patience with my screen, but that’s ok on older planes. there is good people everywhere. And bad apples. It happens. But when the bad flights outnumber the good ones by a lot; there must be a big problem. Thanks again for writing, enjoyed reading it! I wish you happy flights.

The desert American serve is a joke. The only good thing about their meals is the cheese which can be used to make a sandwich. Their breakfast is a joke. I hate yoghurt in the morning. And that fig bar looks gross. They used to serve a nice croissant with jam. Many airlines serve a muffin which I personally prefer for breakfast. I try to avoid American and United on long haul flights. The food is way better on British and Virgin. At least Delta make an effort to serve an edible meal in economy.

Great TR as always! Cabin crew on American carriers and AA in particular seem to find paying passengers an inconvenience and an intrusion of their personal lives. Pax safety seems to be low in their priorities, I have seen AA cabin crew take the jump seat for T/O put her feet up on the bulkhead and start completing a crossword puzzle, another who obviously didn’t think a guitar case upright in an exit row of an ERJ145 as being a problem and one old girl in a shabby uniform with a very pronounced limp and an ass that barely fit the aisle, but no matter as she didn’t do much the whole 7 hours from LHR to PHL anyway! Food offering on American carriers always appalling too.

Great video! I think the service culture is poor at AA because they only have 1% profit sharing. Delta has 10%. Hence, they are loyal and offer better service. What are we getting for the next video?

16:23 American Airlines (American’t Scarelines): It really doesn’t matter what you serve, the number one outlier that is important to us is running an on-time operation 🙄. For those who don’t know, American Airlines SVP of Premium Guest Services actually said these words in an interview with CNBC back in 2023. Alaska Airlines would NEVER!

I generally like AA. I have no issues with their product (I prefer United though), and their planes aren't too shabby. When things go wrong with AA, though, its an absolute nightmare. That's where you really run into issues. That said, AAdvantage is a great loyalty program! AA miles gave great value compared to United and especially Delta, and you can really get a lot out of them. That's probably the biggest reason I fly AA so much. The thing about U.S. airlines is that crews are mixed bags. There are some really fantastic FA's who love their jobs and helping customers. There are also some really grumpy ones who seem to hate their jobs so much you really have to wonder why they applied and why they were hired in the first place. While some airlines have better reputations than others (Alaska and Delta are known for being a bit more service oriented), the truth is by and large enjoyment of the job comes more from intrinsic motivation than company culture. You can get a fantastic crew on AA, and you can get an underwhelming crew on Delta. It's all very circumstantial. PS. If you believe that the crew on your flight was disregarding safety, file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Transportation. That usually gets a bit more accountability from the airlines.
