TRIP REPORT | CZECH AIRLINES: Best ATR Landing Ever! ツ | Prague to Košice | ATR 72-500

Czech Airlines Trip Report onboard one of their ATR 72-500 from Prague to Košice, in eastern Slovakia.
This was my very first at Košice airport. I was in Košice several times in the last years, but I was always getting there by train. Flying to Košice after so many years was a very very nice feeling.
The flight was very comfortable. We were around 20 pax, so we all had 2 seats for each one onboard. The views of Prague Airport empty due to the pandemic were hearth-braking... Once in Košice, I was surprised by how small was the airport! But hey! Small but very nice I must say!
One of the best parts of this Czech Airlines flight report was the landing in Košice airport. You barely say when the touchdown occurs! Super-soft!

Un bonito vídeo diferente a los otros por el avión de hélice , las vistas sobre Praga muy bonitas y también me ha gustado el 737 de KLM y como tu dices cuando se va a acabar eso de estar los aeropuertos vacíos te diré que cuando saquen la dichosa vacuna y Europa y el resto del mundo empiece a despegar económicamente de este agujero en que estamos. @@OnBoardHD CSA had to sell some planes, but they are still flying. SmartWings and TravelService belong to CSA, which also had to sell some aircraft, so it did not go bankrupt. I recently flew with them to Kavala. Have a nice day.

I’m half-Czech and I actually have never flown with ČSA yet :( at least you take me onboard ČSA virtually, thanks for that! :D hopefully I will have the chance to do so, I really hope they survive this crisis as it is a very traditional airline.

Hi Lucas. I too hope there will be a solution to the crisis. Having had to cancel the summer holiday because of covid travel restrictions, I have booked a trip to Prague in early February in the hope that better testing if not a vaccine will enable a loosening of the travel warnings by then. Probable a vain hope, but a hope nonetheless!!!

Hopefully, we'll find soon a solution to this... the current situation is not sustainable for the majority of companies, not only in aviation but in almost every economical area. Congrats dude, you’ve finally made it to Košice 😄 I know that it had been on your list for years. Sadly, this route has been terminated few days ago (but it is included in their summer schedule again). However FR flies the same route now too. Btw I’d recommend you to fly to Poprad-Tatry Airport once the pandemic situation gets better. The scenery is worth seeing :) Greetings from Bratislava 😁

Thanks a lot, Swangi!! Totally correct! Kosice was on my wish list for years and, finally, I had the chance to fly there! I know that Ryanair also flies this route...but we have a lot of Ryanair flights on the channel.. and the classic operator of this route is CSA with its ATR... so I had to choose CSA for this flight. If I fly again this route, I will definitely pick Ryanair :) I know that approach to Poprad is amazing! I hope to fly there soon as well! :)

That was a really long bus transfer to the aircraft - that’s what they call remote! A very clean and modern interior on that ATR72. I would like to visit that museum in Kosice sometime. Looks really interesting! I’m based in the UK, so a cheap Wizz Air flight will get me there easily. Is it easy to get to the town from the airport if I was to stay a few days? ✈️

Hahaha Absolutely! It looked like we were going to Kosice by bus! :DD It's very easy to get from Kosice airport to downtown. You have public buses, or also companies like Uber or Bolt take you there for prices around 6-10 euro, depending on the demand at that moment. Very affordable.

I have often wondered why the RJ adapter never took hold in Europe. In the States most RJs and large props are boarded by jet bridge using a metal plank which is laid across the end of the bridge into the cabin. The system was designed by an American Eagle ramp agent to board ATRs when they flew them. Mesaba in the 2000s had modified bridges installed at DTW and MSP to be compatible with their SAABs. In Europe it's more likely you'll tarmac board an A330 for a 12 hour flight than board a CR9 or DH4 by jet bridge. Very different strategy.

Yep, it's true. In Europe, I've never seen a regional jet attached to a jetway. I've seen several times in the USA regional planes attached to jetways and it was something that was always catching my eyes. Thanks for letting me know about how it started :)

You want to try a flight into Wellington New Zealand in one of these tubs!!! Wellington is rarely calm and often the flights encounter crosswinds for landing. Ive bounced along like a kangaroo landing there and they don't feel that great, but they can stand it. Y9urd hilarious

Lovely to have a trip report on a turboprop, I love the sound of the engines when they go into reverse on landing ;-). I knew you would have an in-flight meal on the aircraft if it was available. Did they have a model of an ATR or only jet aircraft ?

Near the airport Kyiv-Zhuliany is Ukrainian aviation museum, medova str. There you also can visit inside tu, il, mi26, mi8. If you like military aviation you must visit Poltava aviation museum. On aviation base strategic bombers. There you can look inside all bombers tu, even tu22. I recommend to visit this museums

the funny thing about the tu-154 (this exact one) is that it was sometimes open for public to enter (for a small fee that included a complete tour around BTS airport) when it was still in active use by the slovak government.

En américa ese aterrizaje tan suave se le llama "butter" jejejejeje y ya tenías un tiempo sin volar a bordo de un turboprop, he volado en los ATR 42 y me parece un avión bien silencioso estando en las filas 5 hasta la 9 justo debajo de las alas donde está los motores, en el ATR 72 no sé que filas serán y debo aclarar que los motores turboprop una pequeña parte del empuje máximo sí lo proporciona la turbina, solo que el porcentaje de empuje que aporta no llega ni al 10% por lo que es algo despreciable, muy buen vuelo y saludos desde Venezuela

Interesting domestic flight on an ATR! I’ve been in PRG last July and it was really a ghost airport, emptier than when you travelled! I really hope that this situation will be solved soon!

Almost every airport that I've visited in my 55 flights since July were like Prague. There were just a few exceptions, like Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Madrid T4 or Rome. Hopefully, this will recover soon... By the way, I've already changed the link on the VLG video ;)

First time I ever saw CSA, was their one single A330, in Seoul, South Korea. Korean Air owned 46% of the shares back in 2015. Now Smartwings (bad move IMO) own most of the shares. The Seoul route was dumped in April this year :( and the A330 was returned to Korean Air. This may have been your last light on a CSA ART-72 500 as they are due for retirement soon. As someone who did 14 flights last year, I pray for the day things get back to normal, aviation is slowly bleeding to death, its tragic. 07:05 please - never use this airline - they are unsafe! Best pre-ordered food I have seen in the sky EVER! very smooth touchdown too, loved the quick look at the TU-154. Thank you Lucas for continuing to fly and bringing us great videos :))

I've seen that plane in Prague 2 years ago! haha Then I realised that it was only flying that route... I didn't know that they are retiring the ATRs... do you know why? It looks like a plane that fits perfectly in many of their routes... especially with the current low-demand... You say that Smartwings is "unsafe", why? Greetings! :)

@@OnBoardHD Plan to retire the ATR 72 500 and replace them with A220-300`s, does not make sense! unless they are dropping shorter routes? CSA have an excellent safety record. Smartwings less so, last year`s engine loss at FL360, descending to FL240 without advising ATC of one engine ops, continued to PRG for 2 hours 20 mins when the max is 2 hours. 15+ serious incidents in the last 3 years, they are forcing crew to take risks in order to maximise profit, then blame them when things got wrong. Hull loss is just around the corner.

@@amc3 Wow! Really? Changing a 70 seat airplane for another with 145 doesn't make a lot of sense for me... It would make a lot more sense if they would want to replace the Airbus A319/A320 fleet with A220. But the ATR... pfff looks crazy for me... I didn't know about those numbers of Smartwings... I mean, I knew about the single-engine story, but not about those 15+ incidents in 3 years... wow!

I know that you're trying to be fun, so don't take my answer like an angry comment. That being said, I think you don't have any clue about the Boeing 737 landing technique (and in general, any plane), especially for short runways or with crosswind. Hope you've enjoyed the video! :)
