For this video I traveled aboard of Deutsche Bahn's ICE train. This route was operated by two ICE T sets.

Nice video, have done this trip a couple of times, but in 2nd class. The menu from the restaurant car is fairly expensive. I noticed that a coke is 3 euro 50, that is slightly more than $5.00 Canadian dollars. That's why I always buy my food and drink prior to train departure. Would rather spend my money on train rides than on food. Thanks for taking me along.

Thanks so much! I tried the 2nd class in the ICE3 on route Cologne - Frankfurt. Otherwise I agree, the prices on board the train are relatively high ..

3,50€ is not expensive in Germany. It‘s not cheap, but you won‘t pay much less at the train station or in restaurant, in fact, prices on board are oriented at the princes at train stations, although on the train most food is slightly more expensive (about 0,50-3€). Especially the coffe is really good priced for 2,40€, or the Currywurst with fries for 7,90€, or a croissant for 2,50€.

@@mstrmren Thanks for your comments. I must take into consideration the Cdn$ and the miserable exchange rate we get when compared to the Euro. I am very value conscience about what I pay for what I receive. I generally do not buy food at the stations either. I go to a Lidl or Aldi or REWE to buy my food for the trip.

I think depends on item, some drinks are a bit expensive, but as you wrote, Currywurst with fries for €7.90 is very good price :-) Of course, prices on ČD trains (especially during happy hours) are cheaper :-D

Wonderful Pete I will be trying an ICE-T for the first time next month, not sure which version though 🥰 I do love German first class, but think they should at least include a drink for free 🍺 Leipzig is a fantastic station isn't it! 🇩🇪

Thank you! ICE T is very nice, very similar to ICE 3, but not so fast. Leipzig is fantastic station, and if you will visit there, go to check the platform (Gleis) 24, there are parked historic locomotives and "The Flying Hamburger" unit :-)

U DB nejvíce miluji Komfort Check In. V ICE a snad teď ve všech IC vlacích si člověk odbaví sám jízdenku (pokud je koupená u DB) a nemusí štrachat jízdenku a nezdržuje to vlakvedoucího při kontrole jízdenek. Jinak super video!

Great video! Really captures the spirit of the ride! Quick tip: If you want to look outside the cab window you have to book a seat at the rear of the train. The front windows will always be mist as the train drivers are not allowed (and mostly also don't want) to work under observation of guests.

Thanks a lot! Well, originally, according to the reservation plan, the unit was to be turned in the opposite direction :-) Btw. the main reason why I booked this seat was that it's located in a quiet "lounge" :-)

@ganzeige - Thats not true at all! Had plenty of rides with the window in "see-through"-mode and there are no rules prohibiting it. Its just a choice of the driver!

Díky moc a zdravím do Chorvatska! Podle mého je nejlepší ICE 3 a také nejrychlejší, ale ICE T je mu nejpodobnější, akorát je pomalejší ale zas umí naklápět jako Pendolino :-)

Kéž by to take bolo, ale obávám se, že is ještě počkáme.. ikdyž ICE T je vlastně obdoba Pendolina, ale nevím jestli zvládá naše 3kV / 25kV.. jinak by to asi museli přes Česko tahat Vectronem :-D

@@PeteBrandy Ice T umí pouze 15 kV, 16,7 Hz. Vlaky z rodiny Velaro (ICE 406 tedy ICE-3M a ICE 407 tedy Velaro D) jsou více systémové a v ČR by asi teoreticky jezdit mohly. Problém by byl vlakový zabezpečovač. Vyřešilo by ETCS na českých vysokorychlostních koridorech. Snad se jednoho dne dočkáme a budou Českem projíždět i vysokorychlostní vlaky sousedních zemí (Rakousko, Německo a Polsko zatím).

@@ERAczech To ano, ale zrovna ty co jsou vícesystémové, tak jsou z nich ty rychlější, asi by bylo škoda posílat je na natě koleje (za předpokladu ETCS).. ale zrovna to ICE T by se na naše tratě hodilo, kolem Labe by mohlo pěkně klopit :-)

Snad se dožiju toho že to u nás bude jezdit taky touhle rychlostí. Tuhle jsem zase jel z Vizovic a přes celou Moravu to jelo 160 skoro bez zpomalení a pak zase kolem Kolína cesta na půl dne, jako vždycky. Kdyby to jezdilo u nás celou cestu aspoň těch 160, tak by to byl fakt luxus. Bavil jsem se s člověkem co dělá pro správu železnic a ten řikal že problém je v tom že u nás se posílá přes 2 kolejnou trať to co v zahraničí přes 4 kolejnou a prostě na to neni kapacita, takže moc naději do budoucna nevidim pokud fakt nepostavěj komplet nový tratě. Měli nejdřiv postavit novou rychlotrať a pak až rozkopat celej koridor z Prahy na Moravu, fakt nechápu jakej má správa železnic plán, vypadá to že dělaj všechno totálně náhodně. Nedokážeš si představit to zoufalství jaký cejtim když tady 5 let v kuse jezděj náhradní autobusy a pak mi tady před barákem jede TGV že to vypadá jak když si z nás dělaj srandu. :-)

No kdyby byla alespoň dvoukolejná, ale Poříčany - Kolín jízda po jedné koleji, nebo odklonem na Nymburk, kde je odbočka také jednokolejná.. a pak to jde dál, za Ústím nad Orlicí další pomalá jízda a pak ještě výluka u Bohumína.. a je z toho 50 minut zpoždění. On hlavní problém je také v tom, že se souběžně rozkopaly i objízdné trasy. Uvidíme od nového grafikonu, jestli se to ukončením výluk zlepší (pokud se termíny neposunou)..

@@PeteBrandy Já už žádný světlo na konci tunelu nevidim, bydlim tady na tý trati z Poříčan na Nymburk 10 let a je to čimdál horší i přesto že se docela masivně staví, máme všude nový nádraží a vypadá to pěkně, ale nejezdí to, fakt 5 let v kuse náhradní autobusy s krátkejma přestávkama kdy zrovna jede vlak, fakt zoufalost a po 3. hodině odpoledne na páteřní trati na Moravu nikdo nedělá, to prostě nedokážu pochopit, asi nejsou lidi nebo co. Ale nikde v zahraničí jsem tohle neviděl, i třeba v Polsku když byla trať v rekonstrukci, tak se na ní dělalo dokud bylo světlo a dělníci vždycky uhnuli aby mohl vlak projet a trať normálně dál fungovala.

Thanks for another great report - I especially liked seeing the lovely station at Dresden. Although not included, it is nice they will bring you a coffee to your seat in first class as you relax and enjoy the scenery.

Jak to říct... jen bych chtěl být na Tvým místě. V Lipsku jsem byl v roce 2014, měl jsem dva týdny v rámci mé práce. To nádraží, i když v té době v rekonstrukci, je nádhera. Jenom jsem neměl nikoho v kolektívu "ajzboňácky" trefenýho, nechtěl se nikdo provézt do Drážďan nebo Berlína, co.mi je líto. (I když jsem byl s nima nekolikrát i v Praze, to bylo totéž... odtuď znám Smíchov i Veleslavín, to nejde vynechat, metro taky ne)

Díky moc! No původně jsem chtěl jet až do erfurtu, ale nádraží v Lipsku jsem si chtěl už dlouho prohlédnout, včetně expozice na nástupišti / Gleis 24 (konečně jsem si prohléhl Létajícího Hamburčana). To nechápu, že se nikdo nechtěl provézt, já mít možnost tam být déle, tak projedu po okolí co se dá :-D

Moc pěkné. Škoda, málo záběrů z města Leipzig. Více záběrů z města například Berlin , Vídeň, Bratislava atd. Jinak moc pěkné.

Ahoj Pete, z Lipska souprava pokracuje obracene? Jestli se nepletu cestoval jsi v sedmi vozove, ale pri odjezdu je v cele petivozova souprava..Jinak bezva video, diky👍

Ahoj, ano, Lipsko je hlavová stanice, takže vlak tam přijede z jedné strany a potom musí vyjet opačně (5-vozovou napřed). V Německu je celkem časté, že jsou stanice neprůjezdné (hlavové), to samé je třeba Frankfurt Main Hbf nebo München Hbf.. Proto také jezdí v Německu tolik push-pull souprav :-)

From WC, good Video Pete, I see that it was a Double-train! Did you feel a tilt at any time of the trip? My last train trip was in 1964, I’d love to go back to Germany and ride the ICE trains! I think you would see the most on the upper deck of an IC train as I see DB has put up as many privacy and noise fences as we have here in the USA! Keep the good videos coming, if you can get to Regensburg, I love seeing any from there as I was stationed there, USAF 1962-64. William Carlson

Thanks so much for watching! For this journey, it was possible to take a double-decker IC train, but I preferred this ICE T, because I wanted to compare it with ICE3, which I also traveled. But I will ride this route one more time and I plan to do IC Dosto :-) Unfortunately, I didn't feel much tilting. When I go by Pendolino train to Cheb, the tilting is to feel much more :-) Btw. last Saturday I had a planned trip to Munich via Regensburg, but due to storms I postponed it to another time. Welcome to my hometown! But somehow I like Prague more than Leipzig. 🤷 Unfortunately, the train drivers are not allowed to turn the windows transparent since a few years. DB is probably afraid that someone will notice how to control the train.

I've been to Germany many times, but in Leipzig once... straight for 2 weeks. It was in 2014, the main station, which is in my opinion, the one of the most grandiose stations in Europe, underwent a reconstruction at the time. I got some brochures about VDE7 projects. I climbed the "Iron Swine" (Eisenschwein E94) and made some pictures of the open rail exhibition. But, I am the only railway enthusiast in my work, so nobody wanted a trip to Dresden or Berlin by the train. My cordial greetings from Slovakia.

Nice Video! I would like to travel on the ICE T one time, I have only been on ICE 1-4. It‘s great that you censor people’s faces, most people doing trip reports that are not from Germany forget that this is a crime here, and risk getting sued for hundreds or thousands of euros.
