It’s a great shame that the A340-600 wasn’t a commercial success. Personally, I think it’s one of the most graceful looking of all the wide-bodies. Many years ago we did a guided tour of the Airbus construction plant in Toulouse and saw the first of the 600s being constructed.

Despite all the cost cutting at LHR...their planes despite their age are all very clean and well maintained. I thought the breakfast looked mean and miserable but what a bonus to fly on the a340 600.....great report ...thank you.

The breakfast was a joke... I like flying Lufthansa for the huge variety of models on their fleet... I don't know how many times a year I will fly with LH once they retire all these piece of art...

In the mid 90s I had frequent business in southern Germany, and flew frequently on LH between ORD and MUC on the A343. I've never been fortunate enough to fly the A346, but I've always had a fondness for the A340. I found it to be the most comfortable and quiet of all the big jets. I'm a 70s kid, so the queen will always have a special place in my heart, but the A340s are awesome aircraft and just a smdigen shy of all time favorite. Keep up the good work!

For me are both the perfect planes for long-haul: the A340 and the B747. Well, of course, the A380 is in another league... but from the aesthetics point of view, the A340-600 and the B747-400 are just perfect :)

They only parts that I sometimes (very rarely) speed up are long walks at the airport when I really want to show how long is something (as I can't just pur 20 minutes of walking on a video hehe).

Oh I am so excited for this!!!! I actually live 20 minutes away from Dulles Airport. In fact I used to work as PAX agent for Emirates a year ago, and I currently work at the Air and Space Museum adjacent to the airport. Love seeing all the planes land from my work.

Saw this plane shortly after takeoff from DFW heading to Frankfurt on Saturday. I thought it was a 747 at first but discovered it was an A340 after checking my FlightRadar24. This is indeed a huge aircraft and even from the ground it's a sight to behold. Thanks for the virtual ride on this beautiful plane.

From Dallas they are using the short version, the A340-300, but also very nice to see. Airplanes with 4 engines are getting more and more rare to see... Glad that you've enjoyed this Trip Report! Have a nice week :))

I was fortunate enough to see the -600 taxiing in Hong Kong a few weeks ago during a layover. My sister and I were running around the terminal following it as it passed each gate - it's both our favourite widebody, and they don't fly to our country so we never thought we would ever see one, but there it was. A truly magnificent aircraft, and just as big in person if not more-so than in the pictures.

Fantastic Trip report Lucas as always. A340 is a truly amazing aircraft, especially the 600 series without a doubt. Between the A340, the 747 and the A380 they are all my top three on my bucket list to fly on at sometime in the near future, I just really hope I get the chance to fly on them soon before they're gone 🙏 Anyway, well done again, I really look forward to the next one. Great video as always. You are one of my go to's when i am researching an airline i have never flown on before. I personally like that Lufthansa moving map much better than what Delta switched to. somethings that are outdated are better than newer models. not very many times but this is one case where LH outdated map is much better than DL's new one. i am going to have make sure the wife and i take LH to Europe once during the next 2 years and get on the 346 before they are gone. one of my favorite things about airports in Europe is how much they use bus gates. Love it

Undoubtedly the most stunning passenger aircraft of all time (apart from Concorde) we can only hope that there will be further delays with the 777 and Lufthansa will have to keep these magnificent aircraft in service at 15 years old this still has plenty of life left Some years ago flew from DC to LHR on Virgin 346 were less than 70 passengers Probably the best flight ever. Love the lower level toilets on Lufthansa And what a treat disembarking using stairs, you really appreciate how long this beast is. Brilliant video

It's a great airplane! I remember seeing it on approach to BOS 5 years ago and thought... WOW...what a long plane! I had the opportunity to fly premium economy on the -600 model twice recently. The lower-level toilets are pretty cool!

Thankyou Lucas 😊.I enjoyed this flight as it was with Lufthansa that my first experience of flying happened to be.✈.Many years ago.😊.Ironically it was to Wildenrath in Germany. Its certainly a beautiful plane and the seats are very comfortable looking. The quietness of the engines was unbelievable both on take off and landing ✈.Not so sure about the catering haha but i hope you enjoyed it. Thanks a lot! I'm glad you liked this Trip Report :) I fly Lufthansa so much because of the amazing fleet they operate. There is absolutely no other airline in the world flying the A380, B747, A340, A330, B787, A350... all together at the same time. Once they phase out these models and they will remain with the models that all other ailrines operate... I will for sure fly a lot less with them, as their onboard service, although it has improved in thes last 2 years, it's still far behind the one of many other airlines.

jajaja Sí, es algo bastante único del A346 de Lufthansa. Al ser un avión tan largo supongo que vieron la opción de poder poner más asientos si no tenían que poner baños en el mismo piso... al mismo tiempo, las bodegas de este avión deben de ser exageradamente grandes... así que decidieron poner un módulo de baños entre las bodegas delantera y trasera.

So be honest, how long did it take total, first, did you have to wait on the plane for the buses to arrive? If so how long did that take. Second, to board the buses, third, the wait for the buses to get clearance to go back to the terminal to drop you off. Fourth, the the wait for the buses to open their doors to let you out once you arrived. I know Europeans love their buses, but if I were on that flight I definitely would’ve felt a sense of dread upon learning that we were assigned a satellite gate several miles from the main concourse. I do not like crowds, or confined spaces. That whole process can take an hour on a normal day.

Great report, thank you! LH is a reliable airline. For long distances I prefer business-class. But these days not to the US. This country has become insanely expensive for tourists….😢

Does the plane rest for several hours after landing from such a long flight or do they unload and reload and ship back out again pretty quickly?

They maximize the time the plane is flying, like every other airplane in the world. A plane on the ground is loosing money for the company. Unless it needs some maintenance, these long-haul planes are usually maximum 2-3 hours on the ground before flying again. Some times not even 2h; just the minimum time to clean the plane, refuel and load the new crew and passengers.

If you ever take these flights, you would get to try a lot of new experiences, such as new airlines that you haven't flown on before such as ZipAir Tokyo, La Compagnie, and Thai AirAsia. You would also get to try some new aircraft such as Thai AirAsia's A321neo, Japan Airlines' A350-1000, Iberia A321XLR, and the World's Longest Flight on Singapore Airlines. For flights listed that will have a connection such as Singapore Airlines on EWR-DPS and Korean Air on SGN-YVR, you should instead put the entire journey (two flights) in one video.
