The B747 is always worth watching, great looking aircraft! And it is quite nice to fly to, although the flight deck layout is less than optimal, to put it that way. ;-) I flew the 747-200 and -400 as a first officer and have to admit that the Airbuses are much more comfortable from a workplace perspective.

When you're sitting on Revere Beach, the big sweeping beach before Winthrop before the runway, you see planes almost constantly coming in to the 22. You can see how low they are. It's quite a plane-watching spot. The best is the other side (4R or 33). Those runways go RIGHT up to the water. I used to park my boat right at the end of 33 (well, slightly to one side, heh) and it seemed like the wheels were going to clip my radio antenna. So cool. After 9/11 they stopped letting you do that.

Nice video, thanks. You mentioned that it is the first time the FO has landed the A346. What about the simulator? Do you require simulator training for the 346 if you are already familiar with the 330 or 343?
@PapaPaddeАй бұрын
Thank you! You are correct, we train in the simulator before flying the aircraft itself and so did the FO before this flight. It was his first landing in the real thing! ;-) It is required to do simulator training (and checking) regularly on every variant we are licenced to fly.
@johndean4998Ай бұрын
The A330, A343 and A346 have many similarities including the FBW flight control system, so only a few days' 'difference' training is usually required to make the transition between types within the same aircraft family.
@InTheMood-fi3bhАй бұрын
wonderful video, is it standard to disconnect the autothrottle that far out on the approach, or was it for FO training purposes
@PapaPaddeАй бұрын
Thank you! He disconnected the autothrust beacuse he was disconnecting the autopilot as well. Our companies policy is to use manual thrust whith manual flight.
@InTheMood-fi3bhАй бұрын
@@PapaPadde very interesting, its my understanding that flying without autothrottle is rare for arbus pilots. iirc I heard a former spirit pilot talk about how he hadn't really handflown with manual throttles all that often, so transitioning to the 737 was a big difference.
@PapaPaddeАй бұрын
Airbus used to recommend using the auto thrust even while flying manually. Our company‘s policy is though to use manual thrust with manual flight which does make sense in many situations.

Shouldn’t they have gone around? Looked like they missed the landing threshold? Or am I mistaken?
@PapaPaddeАй бұрын
Runway 22L has a displaced threshold, so the physical threshold you see in the video is not the one we are using as landing reference. You might be able to see arrows on the pavement after overflying the beginning of the asphalt - these point to the displaced threshold.
@johndean4998Ай бұрын
After touch down, are the callouts of remaining runway length - "1,200 remaining", "900 remaining" - in feet or metres, because airport and navigation charts use feet but the distances on the runway look like metres?
@PapaPaddeАй бұрын
It is indeed meters as we are using that as a measurement value for runway length, even on our charts.

Tolles Video.
@PapaPaddeАй бұрын
Danke!

@PapaPaddeАй бұрын
@nikolauswolff5791Ай бұрын
@PapaPadde Aaaah. Cool. Wann kommt das type rating für die A 350 ?
