Your reports are always excellent viewing. It's great that you film the entire take-off and landing as many trip reporters on here either just speed it up, cut much of it out or dismiss the sound of the engines spooling up and play music instead during what I think is the most exciting part of the flight. Great out of the window filming as always. KLM offer a very decent service though some of the catering is a little questionable. The pilots were very informative with their broadcasts. Really enjoyed this, thanks.

Until making this flight I was one of those saying that KLM had one of the best economy class in long-haul among European airlines... after this flight and seeing this catering and the A330 cabin... well, I have serious doubts unfortunatelly. This is the best vídeos of aviation flights channel in KZbin. One thing I love, is the cell camera position (maintain the solo as the reference of horizontal line) when the aircraft is climb and descent . Plus the rich information about the video, like chapters, musics played with URL (links), "camera" used, and personal opinions about each fly. It´s a show! By the way: the A330 is my favorite aircraft.

That's true. My favourite is the 2-3-2, but that's only possible on a B767. The 2-4-2 is great as well.

haha Yeah, airports have become like little malls with lots of service in recent years. The taxes they charge to the airlines are usually not enough to maintain all the airport infrastructure and give a profit. That's why all these "parallel" businesses are necessary to boost the airport revenue. One of the main airport facilities in terms of income is the official airport car parking.

Great post! In the good old days KLM always focused on tasty and rich quality meals although small in coach... updated they are smaller with less on offer... yet KLM chefs try to maintain a high quality of richness and taste. I do remember decades ago when KLM had a true and dedicated 1st class beyond it's business class offer. Incredible abundance and very lavish... starting in the 1st class Van Gough lounge. Now only a distant memory can capture that and couldn't find it on KZbin as it was way before the bloggers!!!

They're called "mobile lounges" and originally were intended to take passengers directly from the plane to the terminal, as modern jet bridges do, but with the plane parked remotely. In fact, I don't know why they used jet bridges at all for this flight, just for the passengers to have a short walk inside the terminal, then get on the "mobile lounge". You see, Dulles airport terminal's architectural design, by renowned Finnish architect Eero Saarinen, was revolutionary at the time (late 1950s), and the "mobile lounges" seemed like a futuristic idea to give more comfort to the passengers. But that was before widebodies, at a time when planes were smaller and air traffic was much less than today. The "mobile lounges" soon became too slow, with small capacity, insufficient for the passenger flow, impractical. So, their use was much restricted, and now they're used just for taking passengers to the international arrivals area. I'm not sure, but I believe Montreal-Dorval used to have "mobile lounges", too.

Very nice trip report 2 flights 2 planes thats wonderful. Love KLM nice airline 737 & A330-300 16 years 4 months & 12 years 9 months planes amazing thats so long. The A330-300 nice plane all airlines & 737 nice plane too all airlines. Amsterdam, Netherlands, Europe. I enjoyed this trip report very interesting. Missed warm meals too bad, very tasty desert & fruit, salad.

A Dutch friend told me that KLM is considered a cargo airline that also carries passengers. They make most of their revenue transported fresh flowers and bulbs. They reduced their cabin service over 20 years ago when they removed alcoholic beverages from flights within Europe. The only long haul flight I took was SYD-SIN-AMS on a 747-400. I was in the back row of the first economy class cabin in a seat that didn’t recline. A passenger near me asked for whiskey. The flight attendant replied “this is Tourist coast. You get beer or you get wine!” That’s a typical direct Dutch response😂 The koffee was good though 😊

Loved the video!! Used to live in DC - family in The Netherlands - today from Europe love to travel to or through DC! And sure, with KLM! Used to also be Northwest - now Delta. United also fly this route. Brought some good memories! And why not: future plans! Vienna maybe ?? ;) On that short haul flight: getting rid of heating on short haul has (generic) benefits. The ovens cost a lot of space and that on a single aisle jet ...Ovens also cost a lot of energy and ofte are not utilized on very short flights anyway (like Amsterdam to London etc). Finally, the lounge offers selections - and the flight is just a few hours - so nothing is missed. All about expectation management. Tip: when flying long haul on KLM, opt for an Asian veg meal. You can do this ahead of time. For us, and we always fly with different meal choices, they typically seem the best options. Although: the chicken did not seem bad. Good thing: not many carbs. I consider that a healthy choice ... ;).

No hot meal on the Vienna to Amsterdam flight is disappointing. In the summer it would be fine but in the cold season I would expect better in business class, but at least it looked healthy.

Before this flight, I was a strong defender of KLM service... Based on my previous 2 long-haul flights (JKF and JNB, both on the channel) there was no reason to not say they had one of the best services among European airlines... Now, after this experience, I can't say it anymore. The cabin on the A330 is terribly outdated, and the catering was extremely reduced. Even more when we take into account that the flight was 8 hours long!! I hope my next flight with them will change my opinion again. I really liked to fly with KLM... now I have mixed feelings.

Hi Lucas, the on-board service from Vienna to Amsterdam was exceptional, it was good, but I don't know what really happened with the connection from Amsterdam to Washington, but for me it was very good, more above At least it didn't leave you hungry, but there was a Coca Cola, so you didn't like it. Well I flew with KLM from Amsterdam to Cape Town with their 777-300 a few months back, and I was really suprised how good they were. The filled Tomato appetizer was really delicious!! All in all a great experience.

Thanks! You have the camera info on the video description. I don't use any kind of camera holder or anything. It was possible to upgrade to business on the second flight... but to a non-window seat, which is a 100% no-go for me :)

KLM is offering its passengers the bare minimum service. I prefer to fly Qatar or Emirates or Turkish airlines. The service is far better and the treatment is far nicer.

The last time I flew long-haul with KLM (around 2 years ago to JNB) the service was much better, and the cabin was also much newer than this one... Now they are on the same level as the other European airlines... which is terrible.

Thanks for the report. Good presentation. It’s way past time that European airlines offer a proper Business class product on short haul. You get priority check-in which is nice but just economy seats with the middle one blocked off and basic food served. Ok, don’t care much about food on a short haul providing it’s good quality but the seats should be a lot better. Considering the hike in price over economy they are in reality a rip off.

The point is that KLM sells these business class seast in Europe for around 400 euro one way... If you take that into account ans then you see the service obtained it's just disgusting...

El lunes vole de Elcairo a Madrid con Egiptair sin ningun problema y al ir al mostrador de Iberia para facturar las maletas cual es mi sorpresa que ahora la tarjeta de embarque y las etiquetas de las maletas las tienes que sacar tu en unas má quuinas que por cierto la mitad no funcionaban, me quede estupefacto de la desfachated de esta compañía pues no entiendo para que entonces te envían las tarjetas a tu movil en formato QR, asi que muy cabreado co ellos lo cual si me es posible en mis próximos vuelos no pienso volar con ellos. Hace falta ser vagos, lo próximo que será que subamos nosotros las maletas a la bodega de carga desde luego no vuelo mas con ellos. Un cordial saludo

Muchas gracias!! Mis experiencias previas con KLM (JFK y JNB) fueron mucho mejores que esta. La cabina era mucho más nueva y el catering mucho mejor en todo (calidad y cantidad). Lo que me encontré en este vuelo fue realmente decepcionante...

KLM = Royal Dutch Airlines "Royal" is associated with somethibg excellent. With this on board service they are far from being excellend. Hence the metaphor of lossing the crown.

Good info but I think a warm meal on short flights is nonsense. an airline is no restaurant but to bring younfrom a. to b. It s different of course on longhaul flights. Travelling by train from Ams to Berlin 7 hours nothing will be served either.

An airline is ot a restaurant, but they sell business class tickets announcing premium meals, so yes, the food they offer should be really good. That's why they have their (or contracted) catering companies.
