TRIP REPORT | I'd Never Seen a Plane Like This! | ITA Airways A321Neo | Madrid to London [via FCO]

ITA Airways Trip Report flying from Madrid to London (via Roma Fiumicino) onboard one of the brand-new ITA Airways A321Neo and another on the A320Neo, one in business and another in economy, on a lovely summer morning.
A beautiful and comfortable trip from Madrid to London-Heathrow, connecting in Rome-Fiumicino, on the ITA Airways Airbus A321Neo and A320Neo. As promised in a past ITA Airways trip report, one of the flights (Madrid to Rome) was in business class and the second one (Rome to London) in economy class, so we can compare both in short-haul. The plane that ITA used on the Madrid-Rome route was the A321Neo, equipped with long-haul business class flat seats.
As you can imagine, flying in this business cabin made the first flight a perfect one. We took off on time from Madrid and overflew Barcelona, Mallorca, and Alghero before landing on runway 16L in Rome-Fiumicino.
If the flight to Rome was the comfortable one, the flight to London was the stunning one: the departure from Rome, the overfly of the snowed Alps, and the final approach over London downtown (with perfect views of every single landmark), made this flight a more than amazing one. The views were just perfect.
About the onboard service, on the first flight in business class, they served breakfast which honestly was extremely disappointing. It was sad to see how the amazing flight on this amazing A321Neo was not followed by a great onboard service. On the second flight, however, we got more than usual for intra-European flights: crackers and a drink. (The usual on legacy airlines nowadays is nothing).

My father flew Alitalia in the Summer of 1972 from FCO-TLV, TLV-FCO in First Class. The aircraft was a DC-8-43. He told me that the steward wore a white jacket during service. I still have the ticket folder in my collection somewhere.

"Alitalia" sounds cooler but ITA has the better livery without a doubt. One of the best I've seen. Also, I love how much bigger and quieter the NEO engines are.

I agree, views of the Alps were amazing just like the field of clouds on the Madrid - Rome leg. I also enjoyed the views of London from above. Entering the plane in Rome was a long shot, really enjoyed that. I'm pretty sure I don't like to be seated diagonal in that business class seat, although it seems comfy.

Thanks for the trip report! The ITA livery is stunning, especially the tail paint detail. It looks almost like the LV design pattern. However, the food in the business class was a total embarrassment. Even on a short flight, there should have been a full meal.

Buen video, lo que más me ha gustado ha sido las vistas de los Alpes nevados, pero quizás lo mejor ha sido la espectacular vista de Londres city . Respecto a tus preguntas me gusta más la libreta actual de Ita y sobre lo de Air Europa no me gustaría que plus ultra se llevará un trozo de pastel pues esa aerolínea estaba en quiebra hasta que la rescataron con dinero de todos los españoles. La verdad es que yo tampoco veo a Plus Ultra como una aerolínea fiable a la que fiarle la fundamental tarea de mantener cierta competencia con Iberia en las rutas de largo-radio... El tema ya no es solo en las rutas a América Latina... qué pasará con las rutas a EEUU? Ahora mismo Air Europa ofrece muchos destinos que en cuanto se fusionen... quedarán casi en exclusividad para Iberia... no se... esta fusión no termino de verla para el largo-radio... Saludos!

Great video and I love the new ITA livery! I was noticing registrations: the ITA fleet has Irish registration suggesting a financially creative situation; also the Ryanair shown at c. 18 mins has a Maltese registration...what financial skullduggery lurks out there! ITA seems to be the same as Alitalia only with less creditors. hm. And a VERY expensive interior and paint job.

Alitalia also had the planes registered in Ireland. It's just because the plane owner has them registered there and leased to ITA.

@@OnBoardHD Yes I know it's due to leasing, but that in itself doesn't show a very resilient airline - you don't see other national carriers leasing all their aircraft. And they are expensively done out for leased aircraft. A bit odd IMO.

The lack of any kind of usb or seat power is a bad design choice by ITA. These things should be standard in 2024. Otherwise, it looked like a beautiful day to fly and you were rewarded with beautiful vistas along the way.

You certainly wouldn't need to be hungry if flying ITA. There onboard catering is terrible. It should also be noted that ITA no longer fly to London Heathrow but use London City airport instead.

haha absolutely! It might be that bad only on the first wave of flights that don't depart from their hub in FCO... but still, the business catering was terrible on this flight... Actually they are flying to Gatwick now.

En Jerez la ruta con Madrid es operada en exclusividad con Iberia y Iberia air nostrum. Podrá ser modificada de compañía tras la fusión? Prefiero que los vuelos pasen a Ryanair o Volotea. Los precios de Iberia son altos y usando aviones CRJ 1000. Para mi que he volado con ellos me resultan incómodos.
