Personalmente me produjo gran tristeza la noticia del fin de operaciones de Alitalia, una empresa histórica no solo para los italianos sino para todo el planeta; recuerdo con mucha nostalgia cuando nos visitaba regularmente cubriendo la ruta Roma-Bogotá-Roma en el majestuoso boeing 747-200 y la última vez que lo pude ver en aproximación al aeropuerto El Dorado de Bogotá fue con motivo de la visita del papa Francisco a Colombia en el mes de septiembre de 2017, en esa ocasión usando un airbus A330-200. Esperamos que la nueva aerolínea de bandera italiana le vaya muy bien y pueda llegar a ser tan grande e importante como lo fue en su momento Alitalia. Un afectuoso saludo desde el municipio de Facatativá región metropolitana de Bogotá Colombia.

Esa tristeza que describes la sentí yo cuando se anunció el cese de operaciones de Alitalia. Y ya que nombras la escala de Bogotá, ese B747-200, aterrizaba en Caracas a las 3;00 p.m., y despegaba a las 4;25 p.m. con destino Roma. Era impresionante ver llegar a esa bestia. Gratos recuerdos.

La primera vez que volé con Alitalia, fue precisamente en el DC-10. Fue en 1977 en la ruta Caracas-Roma, el vuelo duró 10 horas 25 minutos. Yo tenia 11 años y fue toda una aventura.

We had the most amazing flight on Alitalia from Nice to Rome on the E-175. We enjoyed the lunch wine so much, the flight attendant came down the aisle and slipped us a full bottle of the wine to enjoy later. Plus the incredible views of the Cote D'azur on take off. I will never forget that. Thank you for the life long memory! :))

I love this channel - I found maximum appreciation within a short time - The format is brilliant with the 20 min scale and the several sequences of arriving at airport, plane spotting, boarding, take off, cruise, Legroom, Food & Beverage service, descent, landing, taxi, plane spotting. Gracias Lucas por mostrarnos por última vez Alitalia. Volé en ella de Santiago de Chile a Roma Santiago de Chile y el servicio era pésimo. pedí comida sin lactosa y la chica de adelante pidió comida vegana. Les dijimos a los tripulantes de cabina y dijeron no importa. ninguna de las dos tiene ni carne ni leche y era realmente horrible la comida jajajajaja. volé también en business dentro de Europa y eso era algo mejor. Es una pena que aerolíneas emblemáticas desaparezcan, con ellas se va una época glamorosa de la aviación. Ojalá que ATI llegue a Chile. los dos vuelos de Alitalia SCL-FCO-SCL volaron con capacidad completa. En fin. Un abrazo desde Santiago de Chile, América.

Hello Lucas.wonderful report.It is sad that Alitalia,one of the classiest airlines failed after all these years. I have plenty of memories flying with them from the old days including ,MD-11s,A330s,MD- 90s, A320s,A319s,Emb190.Now that I recall the past Alitalia must be the airline I have flown mostly in my life.Ι really don't know if Alitalia with its new ITA clothes will survive but it's the only solution for now.We shall see.Cheers mate

I’ll really miss Alitalia. I have flown with Alitalia on many routs (e.g. NRT-FCO, NRT-MXP, VCE-FCO etc.). I love their service, designs of the aircraft, magazine and uniform. Even now I can’t believe that they terminated all operations and were already replaced by ITA (it means we can’t fly with Alitalia anymore… omg). I hope the spirit of Alitalia has been taken over to ITA. I sincerely appreciate your service, Alitalia. (And thank you for posting this video…!)

Muchas gracias, Rafa! Air Europa no está, ni de lejos, en la misma situación que Alitalia... pero la verdad es que la situación sí que comienza a ser algo preocupante... La principal tabla de salvación era la adquisición de Air Europa por parte de Iberia, pero la UE ha puesto más requisitos para poder aceptar dicha fusión. Veremos si Iberia no se echa para atrás...

My only Alitalia flight was on KLM metal during the joint venture at the end of last century. One Alitalia cabin crew and announcements in Dutch, English and Italian, flying MXP-SIN-SYD. I remember seeing their DC-10 in Sydney years ago, and they are one of the oldies, but the days of the many European flag carriers being successful in isloation are long gone

I had flown with Alitalia in'83 !! Just like this video ,I believed we flew from Madrid to Rome ,I believe !! I was shocked that they had stayed in the business for this long actually as they had the issues ( monetary, bankruptcy ) for decades !! Since the 90's ?? My mom has flown with them to Italy as well & she used to know somebody worked for Alitalia ! Sad !! I love Italy ,esp.Rome & Florence !!! I love Italians !!! @@OnBoardHD As Italians, we are all sad about how one of most famous Italian symbols has been destroyed and how our taxes have been used and managed badly, but most of us don’t have high expectations about the newco ITA. In Italy we had several different airlines in the last few years, most of them disappeared due to bad management and it’s sad that we now have too many LLC who are given authorisation by nation aviation authority, who should protect the national companies first…

Me ha encantado. Si, la desaparición de una compañía bandera siempre es difícil de olvidar. Lufthansa, British, Iberia, Alitalia se tenían como embajadoras de su país. Del vuelo, la Isola Madalena la busqué en “maps” porque en un vuelo de mi hija me envió una foto preguntando el nombre. Los cruceros también pronto volverán a surcar los mares. Saludos.

Yo viajé en Alitalia desde el nuevo Aeropuerto Internacional Eleftherios Venizelos (la Ciudad de Atenas) a la Ciudad de Roma (por supuesto al famoso Fiumicino), saliendo en plena madrugada con una llovizna y entré a Roma amaneciendo con hermoso sol. La atención de Alitalia es buena y hubo un pequeño desayuno ya que en ese dia estuve muy agotado de tanto viajar (he visitado a las ciudades mediterraneas como Barcelona, Atenas y Roma), asi que disfruté mas de la cuenta. Entonces si he abordado KLM, en la mayor parte de mis viajes, por cierto ese mismo modelo de avión (regresé a Panamá por KLM por MC-DC-10 bajo el nombre de Madre Teresa de Calcuta {entre a Europa por el mismo KLM pero con el nombre de Maria Callas}), te cuento que la atención de esa aerolínea holandesa es excelente donde hubo muchas comidas en pleno vuelo. En ese video menciona Civitavechia, ¿recuerda hubo una tragedia en esa ciudad italiana? Se trata de un lujoso crucero se llamaba Costa Concordia, sufrió un terrible accidente (el barco se volcó tras chocar a una piedra, fue un error del capitán Francesco Schettino) y perecieron mas de 200 personas, eso fue la noticia de atención mundial, con ironía del destino, fui a Roma en el mes de marzo del año 2012 y esa tragedia ocurrió en el mes de enero del mismo año. Excelente video, de verdad me gustó mucho y a pesar que Alitalia cerrará sus puertas para siempre.....Que tengas buen dia desde la Ciudad de Panamá. Luis

Me pregunto en qué año viajaste con Alitalia para que te ofreciesen un desayuno en un vuelo de corto radio jaja Aunque viendo que luego volaste en el DC10 de KLM, ya veo que muy recientemente no ha sido :D Respecto al Costa Concordia, la cifra de fallecidos es de 32 personas. @@OnBoardHD Yo viaje en Alitalia fue en el año 2012 (para ser preciso fue en el mes de marzo ya que estaba en la recta final de mi viaje para regresar a mi Panamá), si hubo desayuno porque salí de Atenas (en esa madrugada estaba lloviznando) para Roma (entré a la Ciudad Eterna amaneciendo). En cuanto a KLM, fue de vuelo transatlántico (desde la Ciudad de Panamá a Amsterdam en Holanda y el vuelo duró 11 horas) por ser de DC-10 (bajo el nombre de Maria Callas y regresando a Panamá fue de nombre Madre Teresa de Calcutta) y el resto de mis viajes a Europa Mediterranea fue de KLM pero de aviones pequeños (he ido a Barcelona, Roma y Atenas). Como tu eres gallego de Galicia, te cuento que la Ciudad de Barcelona, es muy elegante, hermosa y muchos "charms" (charms=mucha distinción). Mil saludos desde la Ciudad de Panamá. Luis

Eso lo hacen algunas aerolíneas, muy pocas. En ese caso, el "problema" es el empresario que hay detrás. La gran mayoría de aerolíneas, como puedes comprobar que casi todas están llegando a los 100 años de antigüedad, no hacen esas prácticas.

As far as I know, the government, through ITA, bought the Alitalia brand just to avoid any other airline to use that name. Anyway, nobody was interested on it... We have some words for flaps & slats, but we always use the english ones :)

As Italian resident in Sardinia should have flown with alitalia more than others. But even with PSO prices it was more convenient to fly with low cost airlines. I'have taken the Cagliari-Malpensa sector with Easyjet more times than the overall amount of flights with Alitalia

I've only flown Alitalia on one occasion between BLQ (Bologna) and MLA (Malta) via Fiumicino and it was the day after the Terminal 3 fire emergency in 2015. It will be missed as an airline, but unfortunately it was time to close it and start afresh

Thanksforanother stunning episode of your adventures in the sky! Too bad Alitalia did not make it. There was some interest n the past from AirFrance/KLM. But that company only survived this far due to millions upon millions in dutch taxpayers money. I think they will be gone by the end of this year as well. So wheter or not ITA will make it, depends on wheter or not they can offer the same service with competing prices as RyanAIr, Whizz or Vueling. I think a lot of classic carriers will not make it.

Thank you for a great review ! Excellent E190, and quiet take off! It is sad that Alitalia have now ceased flying, and I always liked seeing their Embraers at LCY ! However they have been in financial trouble for years, and unless Ital take on a much slimmer route map, they will surely fail ?

Goodbye Alitalia! By the way, Ukraine signed an “Open Sky” agreement with the EU which means unlimited flights of EU carries to Ukraine and also some new routes airlines will open! For example, there’ll be tons of routes to Spain (Malaga, Palma de Mallorca and Alicante) that Wizz Air will serve from here, so I hope you’ll get to visit our country soon 😋 also Ryanair will open lots of routes, they announced an “aggressive route network spreading in Ukraine” 😉

Fact is that AZ has been in financial trouble for years - even Ryanair refused to buy them! Italy’s unionised employment system has killed Alitalia along with low cost operators such as Ryanair & Volotea - simply a case of change or demise. Having flown with Alitalia I’ll miss them but hopefully the reincarnation might keep the service I enjoyed!
