TRIP REPORT | The Shortest Runway!! | Skiathos to London Gatwick | TUI UK Boeing 737

TUI Trip Report flying from Skiathos to London Gatwick onboard one of the TUI UK Boeing 737 equipped with Sky Interior on a cloudy and windy morning in Skiathos but lovely sunny in London.
Taking off from one of the shortest runways in Europe (just 1.600m) is an amazing experience. Of course, all the thrust available is used for this takeoff, so you can imagine how amazing the engine roar was on this flight!
After an epic takeoff from Skiathos, as known as "the European St. Marteen airport" because the runway is just 5 meters from the sea, we flew over North Macedonia, Kosovo, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Italy, Switzerland, France, and finally the UK, after crossing the English Channel.
It was a very comfortable flight, as the load factor was not more than 35-40% on this flight back to London Gatwick. The inflight menu, although not all the meals were available, was quite ok. However, I miss some pre-ordered meal services (like Jet2).

Me ha encantado el vídeo sobre todo el despegue del Aeropuerto de Skiathos ha sido increíble en esa pista tanto en el despegue como en el aterrizaje los pilotos deben apurar los motores me imagino y también esas vistas del mar y los sitios por donde pasas ; el avión me ha gustado también tanto el Skye interior como el tipo B-737 me parece mas vistoso que el A-320 me parecen los asientos muy cómodos no como los de Vueling que son duros y parecen de plástico. Nice to see an approach into the UK bathed in sunshine, not often you see that😄. Skiathos Airport looks a bit like Reus Airport in Spain, although I've never been bussed to the plane at Reus. Looks like a nice flight. TUI UK just seem that bit more grown up and less brash and tacky compared to their rival Jet2. Each to their own though, as people seem to love Jet2. Nice video, I enjoyed it.

Man, you've missed some of the best years, pre-covid, of Skiathos planespotting and people getting jet-blasted..With TUI's 757s screaming, TCX A321s and Volotea's 717s from all over Italy it was a hoot..!! You should have come earlier...Did you do any spotting? Wed and Fri are Brit days and Sat is Scandic day with lots of SAS 737s..You also get Finnair, Transavia, Smartwings,LOT, Tarom,Air Serbia,Enter Air, Austrian,BA, Ryanair, Edelweiss,Neos, Cyprus, TUS..

Felicitaciones Lucas, gran video. Hey Lucas vi el vídeo tanto de ida a Skiathos como el de la vuelta y en ambos ponías que la pista es muy corta. Pregunto ¿Hay una sugerencia por parte de la compañía, fabricante del avión, el largo de la pista tanto para aterrizar como para despegar? y ¿Qué tanto se puede transgredir esa norma de la compañía?. Muchas gracias. El fabricante del avión, para certificarlo, tiene que hacer cientos de pruebas, entre los cuales se calculan esas distancias. Luego, se le aplican factores de seguridad y sacan la distancia mínima en función del peso, condiciones meteorológicas, elevación del aeropuerto... La aerolínea puede aplicar más factores de seguridad, es decir, hacer la distancia mínima más larga, pero NUNCA hacerla más corta de lo que Boeing dice. "¿Qué tanto se puede transgredir esa norma...?" Nada. 0 metros. Saludos! :)

How full was the flight? Usually a 737-800 has to refuel at Thessaloniki back to the UK etc as it can’t get off the runway to go direct.

That is a very short runway (5,340 feet) but not as short as Key West, FL (5,076 feet)- EYW regularly sees flights to New York and Boston, some 1200miles/1930km and 1370miles/2200km away, respectively. I’m sure there must be capacity lids on some of these departing flights.

As much as I like flying, the drive back to Miami from Key West is great! Lots of bridges connecting small islands all the way back to the mainland! Probably since load was light flight was able to fly JSI LGW Nonstop. JSI being such a difficult airport,Only Captains are permitted to Land and Take Off the planes Has being named the Princess Juilianna airport of the Mediteranien.

No es un error. Hay 2 horas de diferencia entre Reino Unido y Grecia. El vuelo dura tres horas, pero llegas sólo una hora más tarde por el cambio horario.

The plane was pretty empty. I already noticed that when you were boarding as the second person. I like the look of those small Greek airport terminals. Although I prefer the Mega terminals, because I hate the long sitting and waiting for boarding, and always like to walk to see more planes and stuff.
