Thanks so much! The South Bohemia region is one of the most beautiful in the Czech Republic, there are many beautiful historic towns (České Budějovice, Český Krumlov, Tábor, Hluboká, etc.). I definitely recommend to take a trip around the Czech Republic. I'm planning a similar round trip around Poland :-)

For me, these coaches reminded me my childhood :-D These original A149 coaches don't have power sockets yet, but upgraded versions already have them (for example, Aee145 /152 coaches). Unfortunately, non-functional sockets are sometimes a problem with several trains, I have similar problem on the ČD railjets. What route did you travel on these cars?

I also like these classic trains with openable windows. Some trains are already being replaced by newer ones, but I believe that the old ones will still run on some routes :-)

There are advantages and disadvantages about compartment trains (we used to have them in Romania). But one great thing about them is that with 6-8 people in a closed quieter room during a long trip, socialization becomes more interesting. You get to know people. For better or worse :)

Cool trip report, Pete! Nice to see these cars in such a good condition. We also have some of them in Hungary (rather with open coaches), but they're much more run-down. Also noticed how the station building of Tábor looks exactly the same like many in my country, and you already mentioned the Monarchy. 😁 Hope you're doing well, mate! 😎

Thanks mate! Yes, these types of coaches are still in many countries. I had a luck to well maintained cars - the České Budějovice depot has their older coaches in good condition :-) The design of many stations in the former monarchy is really similar, I said the same thing when I travelled by train from Budapest to Vienna :-)

Great video! I did excatly the same trip on the very same train in July 2020. Came all the way from Western Austria just to use an old school Rychlik. The way to Praha I used the 2nd class baggage coach and on the way back I travelled in 1st class. In Praha I treated myself with a model of this baggage coach (there is a great little model shop called Pragomodel). :)

I took that trip in 2005, the railway infrastructure seems to be improved.

Yes, the infrastructure improved a lot in the last years. This year, two more new sections are being completed, with a maximum speed of 200 Km/h. I traveled on this route again a few months ago and you can see the progress here (you can watch my video R-Lužnice from České Velenice to Prague, where new sections of the track can be seen).

Same coaches were running on my favourite train line R8 wich is running from Brno (my hometown) to Bohumín (these coaches are not running there anymore, becasue RegioJet took over that line). I travelled alot on the B249 and BDs449 coaches and I love them! Nice video Pete!

Thanks so much for watching! Yes, I know, I tried RegioJet on R8 line a few months ago.. A similar train composition as it was on the R8 line is now on the R9 line Prague to Brno through Vysocina.

@@PeteBrandy Train sets wich came from Bohumín on line R8, changed to line R9 in Brno and they went to Prague and back to Brno where they changed line back to R8 and went to Bohumín. So if ČD was still on R8 you could be on the same train the whole journey trough Czech Republic (or you could choose trains that were going to Prague trough Olomouc and Pardubice) :)

Yes, three parts of this track are still old and single-tracked, but two of them are under construction of a brand new track capable of 200 kmh...forget to mention it

@@PeteBrandy I don´t know if they are also changing electricity system. From Benešov to the south and west it used to be direct current, from Benešov to the north alternating current. That´s why to the south is ussualy going the old locomotive with an old train - they need the locomotive able to switch the system of power in Benešov.

I chose this train because I know that in 1st class I always have a compartment for myself. Otherwise, I prefer open-plan coaches, sitting in a compartment with other people is not very enjoyable.

Mám pro tebe tip vyzkoušej Rychlík Berounka linka R16 trasa Železná Ruda Alžbětín/Klatovy - Praha hl.n.. Je to parádní vlak, jezdí tam vozy Abpee 347,Bbdgmee 236,Bmz 235 a Bpee 237. Kvalita je dobrá.

Jenom malá poznámka...ČD Minibar na Vltavě nikdy nebyl. Maximálně na expresech před rokem...teď to v expresech zajišťuje JLV+poslední rychlík co je přes den jako expresová souprava.

@@PeteBrandy no správně by měl být Krušnohor označen jako Rx (rychlík vyšší kvality) je tam Internet, klima a minibar). Minibar je hlavně nasazován kde si to objednavatel objedná a nebo kde chybí jídelní vůz (před stopkou to byla například hungárka). Teď by měl být nově i na dvou párech Svitav, protože ČD nemají náhradní pantery(kde bývá samoobslužný automat). Takže budou normální velkoprostory a kupečka

Se Svitavou už jsem měl tu čest, minulý týden z Blanska, čekám Pantera a nakonec jsem jel v A149 :-D

Thumb up. However there are not power sockets, wifi or A/C, I like those clean comparments, old fashion vibes and classic windows. I used to travel between Žilina and Zvolen by Zr (semi-fast) trains those had scheduled declassed A 19-41 to Bee 29-48 in original seating condition at the time. I liked them.

Thanks for watching! Usually I ride this route on Jižní expres train, but I wanted to try something else. Normally I don't like the A149 / B249 coaches, but these ones, based in České Budějovice, are in good condition, clean and well maintained. And compared to some newer these A coaches are comfy.. The only thing I really missed were the power outlets (AC isn't important, I like warm weather :-D).

Pěkné video! To Eso je fakt pěkná lokomotiva. Jen škoda, že má jen 140 km/h. Jinak včera jedu béčkem, jdu na WC a tam mají normálně desinfekci. Poprvé, co jsem zažil. Včera jsem jel taky EC 114 Cracovia a z Olomouce 10 minut na odjezdu a v Třebové 3 minuty. Hezky to stáhl. Napadlo mě, co zkusit právě Cracoviu? Za mě příjemně svezení

Moc díky! Ano, také se mi Esa líbí a je to škoda, že má jen 140 Km/h, přitom bastardi těch 160 Km/h dávají. Na koridoru se to zpoždění stahuje celkem dobře. My včera na R-Vysočina nabrali v Havl. Brodě 11 minut, ale bohužel to stáhl jen na 7..

@@PeteBrandy jo, Bastardi jezdí na R18, ale já chytl 150, takže taky jen 140 km/h. A taky mě překvapilo že v Července před nás pustili osobák s tím, že "rychlík jede až za 4 minuty, můžeš jet" a pak dalších 15 km do Olomouce krokem... To nechápu. Když jedu Pendolinem, rozjedeme, všechno uhne, brzdime před další zastávkou, ale tady si před nás hodí Pantera na Nezamyslice a my pak přijedeme pozdě.

@@jirivalenta6382 a právě proto buďme rádi že ty Esa nejezdí 160km/h. 371 sice 160 umí ale taky je to pěkně líný. Esa by uměli jezdit klidně 200km/h ale to by ten převod byl dost do rychla a už by to nemělo takovou sílu na to něco za sebou táhnout. Jsou to už stroje v letech a ve srovnání s dnešní dobou se starou technologií takže těch 140 je pro Esa ideální.
