I took a day trip to Hahajima in the Bonin Islands.
The ferry departs Chichijima at 7:30 a.m. and arrives at Hahajima at 9:30 a.m.
The return trip departs Hahajima at 2:00 p.m. and arrives at Chichijima at 4:00 p.m.
The fare is $35.
I got around on Hahajima on a rented motorcycle.
I visited the ruins of an elementary school, a gun battery, and a museum.
I had a delicious sashimi bowl for lunch.
Please watch the video for more details.

It is from you I have learned about the beautiful remote islands in Japan. Thank you so much. Your videos inspire me to travel more. After so many excellent stories about Japan you can probably open your own Japan travel advice service! 😊😊Well done. PS. People running and yelling "Please come back!" really touched me. What a warm hospitality.

I had seen Chichijima Island and Hahajima Island on Google maps, and I was very curious about them. Because, even just on Google, they looked so beautiful. And in reality, they are so incredibly stunning! I really hope that you will come back for a longer stay, these islands deserve it. Thank you so much for visiting them, and let us travel with you. It's highly appreciated!❤ Saying hi from the Netherlands. 🤗 🇳🇱

Thanks for the great comments from the Netherlands. Ogasawara, especially Hahajima, is wonderful with its undeveloped nature. These islands can only be reached by ferry. I hope to visit these islands again someday. Have a nice weekend!😸

Interesting! It seems there are no resort hotels on Hahajima, as it is registered as a World Natural Heritage Site and tourism development is prohibited. The Kuroshio Maru usually goes to Aogashima Island, so your next destination is Aogashima Island right? 🙇 Aogashima Island is selected one of ‘13 Amazing Natural Wonders You Should See Before You Die’ by famous One Green Planet.
@capsulejapan
@capsulejapan 2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Hahajima is not developed, so the nature is very well preserved. The Kuroshio Maru is temporarily in service on this route as a replacement for the Hahajima Maru. When the Hahajima Maru returns, the Kuroshio Maru will once again sail between Hachijojima and Aogashima. Next time I would like to visit Aogashima, too.😸

@capsulejapan
@capsulejapan 2 ай бұрын
@juuuwi
@juuuwi 2 ай бұрын
@capsulejapan
@capsulejapan 2 ай бұрын

Great trip. The vibe between Chichijima and Hahajima is different, even though the distance between them only 50 km. Bit curious, is Bonin Island still part of Tokyo or not? That cannon hiding on forest and yeah no Senior High School in the island, meaning students who graduated from Junior Highschool should leave their island to another island or going to mainland for higher education.
@capsulejapan
@capsulejapan 2 ай бұрын
The Ogasawara Islands are still part of Tokyo. Chichijima and Hahajima have different ecosystems. Chichijima is a dry shrub forest, while Hahajima is mainly a wet tall tree forest. There is no high school on Hahajima, but there is on Chichijima. However, it is not possible to commute from Hahajima to Chichijima. You are correct, the children of Hahajima need to leave the island to go to high school.😸

The cannon shown looks like the Japanese version of the 8.8 cm Flak 18/36/37/41 anti-aircraft and anti-tank artillery gun during World War 2. The 8.8 cm Flak 18/36/37/41 is a German 88 mm anti-aircraft and anti-tank artillery gun, developed in the 1930s. It was widely used by Germany throughout World War II and is one of the most recognized German weapons of the conflict. The gun was universally known as the Acht-acht ("eight-eight") by the Germans and the "eighty-eight" by the Allies. Due to its lethality, especially as a tank killer, the eighty-eight was greatly feared by Allied soldiers.

Thank you for your detailed comments. I am very surprised by your knowledge of cannons. It is rare to find such an original artillery site in Japan. Next time I visit this island, I would love to visit other battle sites.😸

@capsulejapan
@capsulejapan Ай бұрын
