Hi, guys, you should have bought bread with the sausage, preferably black. It was fun watching you eat sausage without bread. :-) Good luck with your trip!

We should have bought some bread, but we didn't think about it because we don't eat sausages like that very often. I wish we had good sausages here, but I have yet to find any...

Yes, this car is quite old, perhaps it is one of the legendary East German Ammendorf cars from the Soviet era. The railway cars in Russia are replacing and upgrading constantly. For example, I saw different videos about train 001/002 'Rossiya' Moscow-Vladivostok from different years and I saw how the cars became newer and newer. From old Soviet cars to the brand new ones with the shower even in the third class. But there are about 19 thousand passenger railway cars, so it takes a lot of time and now it is possible to see very old cars from the USSR and the brand new ones even in a single train. Sad you can not see the production year of the car during booking process, but at least there are service icons on every car on the website. And you can see: if there is an AC and bio toilet in the car - this is not too old.

@@TripBitten Back in Soviet Union days when there was no food service on a train most passengers would bring a standard food set with them. It contained of a whole fried chicken, hard boiled eggs and some salt packed in a match box. When the train starts moving everyone would take out that set and eat it. Most people don't do that anymore but it became kind of funny cultural staple. If you ride a train you have to bring that food set with you. That is what he is referring to in his comment.

Very cool! But you made two mistakes :) You should have visited the city of Kazan (which is on your way) and you took a ticket for the old train. I hope in the future you will correct these errors!) Kazan is magnificent (the fusion of two cultures - Islam and Christianity). The new trains are much more comfortable.

We only had a limited time for our summer vacation, but would have love to stop in more cities. For the tickets, not sure what you mean the old train? We had help booking the tickets, so didn't know we could have changed it. Maybe next time we will better prepare. :)

@@TripBitten there are modern trains now used by Russian Railways, you had a trip on the old soviet styled vagons, but i think it doesn't matter, cause you could feel yourself as a soviet citizens and i'm really glad for you. By the way, tickets are cheaper for this one, 2 class, there is 3 class called "platzkart" is more cheaper, but it could be too harsh for you

@Moira1309 I'm sure the newer trains would have been more comfortable, but we didn't want wifi and all the modern comforts. I'm glad we didn't end up on the newer trains, we wouldn't have read has much or felt disconnected. Sometimes the internet and modern tech can be a little overwhelming and a simple book can relax the mind (or playing simple games).
