I am in Costa Rica. I bought a BYD S1 PRO (Yuan Pro) EV about 1 year ago and I love it. BYD has 6 dealers in Costa Rica and I see MANY BYD EVs on the roads now. It is interesting to note that Costa Rica generates 100% renewable electricity so EVs are truly green here. It is also interesting to note that there are NO Tesla Dealers in Costa Rica. I assume it is because Tesla is way to expensive compared to the many Chinese EV alternatives available here.

Not sure if you are trying to be like "ha got you about electricity production in Costa Rica" or just actually asking? But, according to sources "Renewable energy in Costa Rica supplied 99.78% of the energy output for the entire nation in 2020." So, they produce most of their energy in a renewable way. www.trade.gov/market-intelligence/costa-ricas-renewable-energy#:~:text=Renewable%20energy%20in%20Costa%20Rica,power%20and%2015%25%20from%20geothermal.

@@TripBitten That's good. Petroleum causes too many problems, it's expensive and eventually runs out anyway. When China can make sodium batteries good enough to replace the lithium batteries that will be another level up for EVs.

During ICE era, Chinese economists was constantly debating why Chinese cars was not competitive, the result was, all the important technologis was patented. If they pay those patents, the price wouldn't be competitive, if they get around those patents, the performance wouldn't be competitive. So, nobody was interest in investing the Chinese automotive industry. During the EV area, they learned from previous mistakes and started early. Of course i would buy it.

I would definitely like to buy a Chinese Made EV, actually I don't think most people would care about product's origin, just care more about product's quality price and service which these days I believe Chinese EVs are extremely competitive, however, of course a lot of racists or politically radical extremists which are widely exist and growing number in Europe and America they woudn't probably.

Chinese made or Chinese brand? There is some difference there.
@benjaminsmith2287
@benjaminsmith2287 Жыл бұрын
@@syncmaster915n Exactly. Chinese made is not Chinese car necessarily. There are Chinese made Buicks. Chinese made Polestars. Chinese made Volvos. And there was a Chinese made Cadillac sold in North America for a time. There are also plenty Chinese made Teslas and in China, there are a lot of Western cars made in China. But a Chinese car is one designed/engineered by a home-grown Chinese company and doesn't necessarily even have to be made in China. At some point, Chinese cars may be made in other countries if they aren't already.

The analogy to 80's Japanese cars' worldwide expansion is not entirely appropriate, IMO. Japanese cars then were still traditional internal combustion engine cars. They run on the same track as all other established Western brand competitors, and had no lead on core techs. Rather their expansion relied heavily on their production management niches(e.g. just-in-time inventory, cost management) , better quality control, and after-sales services. Chinese EVs however, are on an entirely brand-new racing track, where from the very beginning Chinese EVs have already been dominating on core tech (batteries) over the competitors. The current main obstacle for Chinese EVs expansion into the West and world is much more political and geopolitical (US-led world mainstream media bias against all things Chinese), rather than pure technical reasons the Japanese cars faced back then.

I would buy a Chinese brand EV if it ever comes to Canada. But because of the political climate generally in North America, that's going to take some time, maybe a long time. The federal government talks about climate change a lot, but there is very little effort, and i mean concrete actions, to encourage buyers to switch to EVs from ICEs first of all, doesn't matter the country of origin. Range anxiety is till a thing in Canada, given the country is huge with sparsely populated. The current splash of EV and battery activities in Eastern Canada (Ontario) is not really geared towards Canadians but to keep up with the American markets. ie. EVs and batteries made in Canada would probably be shipped south to the US, as always have been and will always be. So, Canada, IMHO, is still nicely stuck in the 1990s level of technology development. I think we have found our comfort zone.
@TripBitten

Yes, it was like that in China a few years back, but the government gave a lot of incentives to buy EVs and develop the market. Now, they are leading the world. Sometimes, the governments need to take actions with the future in mind and not just protecting what they currently have....

I am thinking seriously about buying an EV in the next year. It will almost certainly be Chinese, based on value-for-money and consideration of the very good quality of Chinese brands available in Australia such as BYD and MG. Geopolitical factors completely preclude me from buying an American brand such as Tesla (even though made in China), because of the appalling treatment of China by the US government started by the Trump administration and continued by the Biden administration -- I will let my money do the talking. I also don't like the EU's sudden hostility towards Chinese EVs either with their false claims of 'dumping' of Chinese EVs in Europe. In fact, the prices of Chinese EVs in Europe are significantly higher than the corresponding prices in China.

In countries with insufficient charging facilities, BYD’s plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are recommended, which have the speed of electric vehicles and the ability to quickly refuel fuel vehicles, with high mileage and low fuel consumption. A bridge car consumes 3.9L of fuel for 100KM, and an SUV consumes 4.9L of fuel for 100KM.

I am in the states and yes I would consider buying a Chinese made car. This would require what I do before any car purchase, lot's of research in reliability and durability. Back in 2019 pre pandemic I was pretty excited about the ORA Good Cat since there were articles about them starting a dealer network in the states. The info I was able to find indicated a solid well built car with a standard battery density that enabled a range of 220 miles. Sadly the pandemic happened and that was the last I heard of it coming here. The batteries in most of the U.S. made cars come from China anyway and Tesla who makes there own batteries have more battery fires than all the others combined and never mind the suspension collapse issue they have. I will always have a ICE vehicle but a electric for short trips and around town is enticing if well built and engineered.

Products made by reputable Chinese company is most likely realiable and trustworthy in quality and price. What I don't have confidence in is American and European products (in general) made in foreign counturies (in gerneal: American, European companies producing or contracting foreign companies to manufacture things.) That's when things have a tendency to be poor in quality and unreliable. It's just how U.S and Europe and companies work (even for things manufactured at home, Boeing is a current prime example.)

We bet a couple of Chinese brands in Australia but they can't compete against Toyota the biggest selling vehicle brand in Australia for the past 26 years a lot of Australians like reliable car brands and there is only one other Japanese car make thar will knock Toyota off is Mazda l can be thankful for that by the way in Australia you are never to far from a Toyota in a short 10km drive l can see at least 150 Toyota's parked driving around they are everywhere and l do own a Toyota myself a 1997 Hilux yes there are many 25 year old Toyota's on the road

I live in Australia, we have lost our Aussie made Holdens and Fords which a lot of Australians are very sad about. Chinese cars are not made for Australian conditions and there has been a lot of problems with them here. My hubby and I will never own a Chinese branded/made car let alone an EV. Unless you live in a city EVs are useless here. We own one of the last Holden Commodores which was made in Germany and we absolutely love it. We are soon going to buy a Ford Ranger Wildtrax which is Australian designed and made in Thailand. The big Utes are becoming very popular here such as the RAMS and Chevrolet Silverado and Ford Rangers.

US n EU : We should sanction Chinese electric cars for national security reasons...😅😂
@TripBitten

Sadly, it is already happening... The EU is looking into Chinese EVs being "dumped" in the EU. Most likely, they will try to stop Chinese cars from entering the EU, but I think in the end they will fail because they are supposed to have free markets.

Sadly, that is the case with many countries.... They try to stop products from entering even if the consumers want the products.

I would never buy a Chinese car due to reliability and quality concerns. Also, their software and infotainment system isn't Professional and mostly don't support apple car play. And finally, their cruise control/auto pilot system isn't reliable like the German ones.
