Great episode. I used to do car valeting late 80s/ early 90s and I had two regular customers, one with a yellow 2CV and another one with the green/white Dolly as per this vid, great memories. Back in the early 70s, as a student, I had a weekend job selling cars. A River like this one came in and it looked fabulous in two-tone grey with a painted coach line and beautiful wheels. I could choose anything on the lot to take home, and this particular Saturday night I headed out in the Rover. Looking at the logbook the real beauty of the car revealed itself - it’s previous owner was Sir Matt Busby! As a mad United fan I should have done anything and everything to try to buy it. There was someone in my home town who had an old 70's Bedford Ambulance for some reason, that they painted Black with a Brush, I think they used Hammerite though! You could see the brush strokes from 10 feet away! 😂 They were 'The Shady Family' in our town, every town has them!

The P5B interior is in good condition. It might just be the saviour of this classic vehicle. My late uncle kept one in his garage in West Cumbria until shortly before his death three years ago. 2CV well worth saving, not sure that the beetle is.

Very pleased to hear that 2CV in Norfolk is close to running again: if I'm honest, I far prefer these more 'humble' barn-find cars than I do the supercars that someone's remembered they've got in their house in Monaco or whatever. As for household gloss on a car, in the early 80s I was at school with someone who painted their 1947 Humber Hawk in white emulsion...

Brilliant. One of my old mates had a 2cv, which I drove occasionally, (strictly for amusement only) when he was off working on the big oil tankers. What I do remember,( this was in the late 1970’s”) was the yo yo suspension and the passenger side front seat was not attached but supported by a brick, a not very bright bit of diy. And when I worked in Paris a few years earlier my agent owned a Rover P6 which was rather unusual in Paris. I also knew this guy who was studying, (again in Paris), to be a lawyer he owned one of the pre War Citroen’s with front wheel drive & unitary body shell, (if I remember that correctly), it must have been an early one as it had running boards. And another mate of mine there owned a Renault 16, (or similar), in which I first experienced the Parisian mode of parking, if there isn’t enough space, make some. Rather mental, could not imagine that being the norm in Little Britland.

I bought a P5b saloon in 1995 when I was 20. It crippled me in paying for 4 star at 59.9ppl, was so envious of unleaded users paying 49.9ppl Oh the days! Also my mother banned me from parking it on the driveway, banished it to the road outside.

I remember my father doing something similar with a I believe a Silver Fox coloured MkII Ford Cortina which was badly peeling. He spent at least a day hand painting it with a household light blue gloss I took some stick because of that in our street. Happy memories still miss him he was a character😁

I wish I had contacted you about my Mini Cooper rsp when we dug it out of the bush it had been in for 17 years was a properly cool find, I had been going round the village on an old version of google street view and saw this mini on the driveway, then a while later I was walking passed and looked over the wall because I was curious and saw the mini in the end the lady let me have it in exchange for tidying up the driveway, the car was in a right state and the rustyest mini I’ve seen, but it has 35k miles, one owner for 30 of the 33 years of its life and is one of the first 40 coopers to roll off the production line since they stopped the cooper in the 70s there was also only 1050 uk market rsp coopers made

That P5.....wow. my great uncle, a farmer in Cornwall, had a 3.5 coupe. Legend has it he'd occasionally start from scratch in 2nd gear. The rest of the time it was 4th all day long !

Love these 2cv,s to death Had a new one in the late 80s in the Algarve, the perfect car for that time and place. Regret leaving it there to this day! Hope the Rover and the VW and the 2CV all find new homes get back on the road.

I see the Dolly had only 52k on it when last MOT'd in 2006 with just slightly worn king pins as an advisory :) That P5B is certainly worth sorting. Gorgeous colour scheme. Beetle I would guess is a spares car. The salt air of West Cumbria wouldn't have helped the 1970's build quality. It was creaking all most as much as me! (Fellow Cumbrian) an is only a year younger. Good luck with the sale Roger. 👍
