3 days ago, the water temperature in Manatee Bay at the bottom tip of Florida was recorded at 101 + degrees. That's the water temperature. It boiled the tiny fish hatchery to death. Every young fish dead. 101 degrees is 20 degrees above normal. But hey, it's just summer, right?

Not exactly, mantee bay is shallow and calm so it gets warmer than the ocean around it. The ocean around manatee bay is only in the low 90's. Also the normal temperature of Manatee by is more like low to mid 90's but for any part of the ocean to be several degrees above normal is pretty incredible. You are correct that most marine life can't survive 100 degree temperatures and the coral and fish are being devestated.

Cactus can survive higher temperatures and less water than most plants but even the cactus has a limit. There is a reason why most of the Sahara Desert is just bare rock and sand it is so hot and dry that literally nothing grows and the Southwest might look more like the Sahara after a few more degrees of warming. Another problem that cactus are dealing with is lack of monsoon rainfall, that small amount of rain that normally falls during the monsoon is critical to the cactuses survival.

All those fireworks on the 4th of July... they heated up the planet.
@Weathernerd27
@Weathernerd27 Жыл бұрын
No they didn't firework smoke actually dims the sun enough to have a slight cooling effect and firework smoke doesn't stay in the air for more than a few days. The heat produced by a firework explosing is tiny when compared to the heat already in the atmosphere it doesn't have much effect. The main sources of C02 are coal/gas power plants and gas cars. If this country was serious about stopping global warming we would convert our coal/gas power plants into nuculear, geothermal, wind, hydro-electric and solar power plants, we'd convert alot of gas stations into rapid charging stations, the government would offer big tax incentives to buy hyrbid/fully electric vehicles, the government would spend less on the military/spend more on electric car battery research and the government would require landlords to build outdoor plugs.

And people owning big SUVs and Pickup trucks and do not actually need them. Even a 90s model Toyota Corolla has plenty of trunk space for groceries for a family of 3 kids.

I get very tired of being respectful to people who literally do not care about just the suffering that's going on now because of climate change. People dying from the extreme weather, people already dying from famine, lack of drinking water, overload of the power grid meaning they have no air conditioner and they die of heat related Illnesses. It's easy to not have to worry about those people because you don't see it in front of your face. We only have one planet and you're gonna end up seeing it in front of your face whether you like it or not.

The high cost of housing is making it impossible to get a place within 1 hours commute of my Seattle job so I'm having to live in a Van during the workweek and come back to my country house on the weekend. Even if I park the Van in the shade, crack the window and turn on the fan its still 5 degrees warmer than the outside air temperature. The average summer afternoon in Seattle is about 80 degrees so my Van is on the upper edge of comfortable, I don't know how the poorer people in Pheonix or Las Vegas get by. I'm so looking forward to fall/winter when I can fire up the diesel heater and keep the Van at a nice temperature. Yes the diesel heater will emit a bit of C02 but I need to stay warm and electric heaters draw too much power they would deplete my battery in less than a day, propane heaters add too much moisture to the air and I'd have mold/mildew/carbon monoxide issues.
