Different loads are better for different applications. The triple layer load is great for situations where you have a straight pull over 70 feet away from the truck and don't need a lot of mobility once the line is charged. You can get water on the fire quickly and is ideal for areas with lots of space such as vehicle fires and defensive residential fires with longer driveways. It's a good option for rural departments where staffing can be thin at times. The Minuteman load is less ideal for shorter firefighters (if the hosebed is high) and is really easy to screw up if you don't know what you're doing. However, the Minuteman is far more versatile than the triple layer load and saves you time and effort when moving the charged line into a structure. The Minuteman allows you to pull hose down a narrow laneway and lay hose up the stairs to a low rise apartment as a single firefighter effort, all while still being able to flake out 50 feet of hose right at the fire unit's door. This video only shows one situation in which a triple layer load is clearly advantageous. I have used a number of different hose loads in my few years as a firefighter and prefer the flat or Minuteman load to the triple layer load. The triple layer is great in certain situations but can make the fireground slower and more labour intensive when the hose has to be laid around corners or up stairs. I Hope this helps!! Cheers!

I have had the oppurtunity to us many differnt hose loads including the minute man, triple layer, flat and others. I still prefer the good ole fashion flat load for numerous reasons. 1 it is easy for one person to load/unload. 2. The flat load can off any side of the pumper with ease. 3 The flat is carried while on the ground, not on your shoulder thereby changing your center of balance.4. No turning around and trying to shoulder a load while having to step off the pumper. 5.With a flat load you can also pull off only the hose you really need, disconnect the hose and hook the hose to another discharge if needed. I know I am old and retired so be safe my brothers. This is just my opinion...

Triple sux. It does have its place in the fire service like on crash trucks or where you have a lot of open room. Minuteman or modified minute man is more manageable. Don’t train in only areas where you have the space to pull and deploy a line. Train for your area and any obstacles you may come across.

Now make one corner with that triple fold and see how that works for you. Or go up stairs. Or in a tight spot. Or be able to use it with 1 man doing all those things

I personally like triple load for tight compact areas. But I would go triple lay over minute man cause when you pull it out you don’t have a clump of hose you have to deal with getting tangled up that’s just my opinion

OMG!! This is soo cumbersome. Go with a flat load, nozzle on top, two loops on the start of the last section to drag it and be done!!

Minute man load is a lot more useful . you can load the hose load on your shoulder step away from the truck and go any direction. Triple load you need to pull the hose out straight and clear the hose bed before your can change direction. also break the minuteman load and can be carried away from the truck as a hose pack

With the triple you seperate the nozzle and the loop and then pull the nozzle one way and the loop the other parallel to the truck.

This is not true. You can pull the triple layer out in any direction. Look up splitting the triple layer and you’ll see it.

How do you navigate corners, and obstacles with the triple? The benefit of the half minute man is that you can throw bights to the outside of corners and make turns. If all of your fires are in parks and parking lots then the triple is your load. With the half minute man, the bottom 100’ stack should be grabbed with the dump loop, and a loop at the 50’.

SO how do you deploy that in a confined space with only one firefighter deploying the line? Take a triple vs a minute man to the "C" side of the building and have it properly dressed with nozzle at the door, and all the excess hose behind you ready to advance interior. The minute man will beat the triple every time. Yes in a straight line, the triple is awesome, Give the Truck the numbers and park the pumper one address down and work the line back... The triple falls short every time.. Ultimately with the triple you have to bring up the slack, the minute man, you have it all with you. The nozzle to the door quickly is only half of it, you have to have a dressed line as well..

Maybe this link will help too. Remember you have to use what works with your department. If it were one size fits all there wouldn't be some many types of equipment. Be Safe! kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXmyqnujpZxsrqM

Take any hose load, park your rig right up to the curb on a street with the houses close and then try any pull and tell me which you like. Testing hoseloads in an open field won't show you anything except a brush fire progressive lay lol

He literally had to stand there waiting on him to shoulder the minute while he could've been slowly walking out his triple load. Triples only have two kinks once deployed

The firefighter pulling the minuteman pulled it in a special way to look as if he had pulled from the driver side, this was for the demonstration. This takes some extra time, when pulled normally (from either side)it’s no faster or slower than the triple lay. While the triple has two kinks every time and the minuteman may have more, on pulls less than 70 feet the minuteman will have all hose in front of the door without the need for anyone to double back, constant forward motion. Each has advantages and I don’t think one is overtly better than the other

Tired of this debate. It's always too much for a single FF to manage "efficiently ". Attack 50 with a bight at 100. I've been an Engineer for 16 years, we cab disconnect a flat load and give the correct pressure with dead loads. If you say otherwise....stop being a lazy driver.
