Triple Neo Speed - Flight Video

This video shows my Aeronaut Triple Neo Speed in action with some stunning onboard camera views. Out of the three wing options I chose the speed wings for my Triple Neo. In this configuration the Triple Neo is able to go for rapid flights (max. speed so far ~150km/h) and great gliding aerobatics while still being sensitive to thermals. Flights of more than 1 hour are easily possible. Due to its light weight design it should be used only in light to medium wind conditions. The video was shot on a day with 15-20 km/h winds which is kind of close to the maximum I would recommend for this aircraft... you may have seen how the plane is shaken by the gusts of wind when diving into the gap between the trees.

Thanks. Having seen my onboard footage many times now it still doesn’t get old for me 😃 Especially the shots with the Insta360. I have to mention though that the flight performance is greatly reduced through the drag and extra weight of the camera.

Thanks a lot! I really enjoyed building it. The kit is well thought through and has a good selection of material. Flying is great, even with the speed wings I already had a flight of almost 1:45 hours with the help of some nice thermals

Great video! Lots of work has gone into this. Thanks! The only thing missing in videos with this camera view is any perspective of the flight characteristics of the model - you can't really see how fast it goes, climbs, how it turns, how slow it can go, what it stalls or aerobatics like etc..

Thanks man! Yes, you are certainly right that you can‘t tell too much about the flight characteristics from these perspectives. Unfortunately I have no one to film when I am flying. So the only possibility is either onboard or to put the camera on a tripod like I do with the Insta360. But as this one has a wide angle lens the plane quickly turns into a tiny dot. So I have to wait for my son to get older and then operate the camera 😀. Thanks again for your valuable feedback. I try to get better … every time a little bit 👍

I watched the build, you are very talented and thorough. I would not be that good at it for sure. But I really enjoyed the build and the flight. What camera did you use for recording the flight? If you ever want to get rid of that beauty I'd love to fly it.

Thanks for your great feedback. For the flight I used two different cameras: a RunCam 2 Split (which I replaced in the meantime with an Insta360 Go 2) and an Insta360 One X (for the 360 shots). Unfotunately the cameras (especially the 360 camera) create a lot of drag, otherwise I would fly more often with onboard cameras. I fear you'll have to wait a long time before I get tired of my Triple Neo ... I love it too much 😉

As I am usually flying alone it’s quite difficult to get good footage from the ground. The only way is with a GoPro strapped to my chest or with my 360 camera. Due to the wide angle lenses I have to almost fly into the camera to get a good view 🤣 Actually it’s hard to hear the motor. It is quite silent. Great that you liked the video anyway 😃

Die Kamerahalter besteht im oberen Teil aus 3D gedruckten Teilen und die Rumpfauflage ist aus GFK (Rumpf mit Tape abgeklebt, gewachst und dann 2 Lagen 160g Gewebe). Ich werde mal die STL Dateien und eine kurze Anleitung hochladen. Viel Spaß beim Bau!

Thanks! Yes, the hinges of all control surfaces are made only from normal clear tape, nothing else. There are different ways to apply the tape, some are easier, some more difficult, especially for large control surfaces. In my build video of the Puri flying wing you will see another method and in my current build (will be uploaded in the next days) I tested another one. Which one is the best one? I think that is up to your personal preferences.

I realize that the Neo and the Shaka are two different styles of planes, but which one did you most enjoy flying?

Well that‘s a tricky question. Let me answer like this. For thermal gliding I prefer the Triple Neo a bit more mainly because of it‘s better visibility in greater heights. At the slope with light to medium winds the Shaka is my choice number one. All in all the Shaka is more of an anytime anywhere plane due to it‘s compact size.

Yes the build is definitely worth it. I love how the sun shines through the transparent blue parts of the wing. Don't worry, no wrinkles, just water drops. The gras was still very wet from the morning dew.

Thanks a lot! Which plane I like more… difficult question! I would say both equally but for different reasons. The Blizzard is a lot faster with an incredible climb rate and floats very well. But for sure it is not a thermal glider. So if I pick up a thermal then it just slows down the descent… climbing in thermals is rather exceptional. The Triple Neo Speed is a lot lighter and performs very well in thermals. It is a nice mix between circling in thermals and als being able to float reasonably fast. It is my favorite plane for long relaxing flights. If I want a bit more action then the blizzard is my first choice. Some key figures: Blizzard top speed 240 km/h. Longest flight with a 3S 2200mAh: 48 minutes - Triple Neo top speed 150 km/h. Longest flight with a 3S 1800mAh: 1 hour 43 minutes

It‘s magic! 😂 The perspective from the 360 camera is always striking. To mount the camera I made a support that is a mix of a GRP and a 3D printed part which is strapped to the fuselage with tape. The camera is then screwed onto this support. If you head over to my Instagram account (bavarian.rc) you‘ll see some photos of the mount. Unfortunately the Insta360 One X camera is quite heavy and has a lot of drag. By mounting it on my Triple Neo I converted my sleek glider into a flying barn door 😳
