@TyrellKnifeworks

You just set the height a little above or below the center and then mark the knife and then flip it over and mark again.

Your videos are fantastic and I have learned a lot. But I heat treated N690 stainless and to hand sand to 800 it took day's not hours. It was vacuum hardened. Would it make a difference. Thank you so much. From Ireland 🇮🇪

Ok sorry if this has been asked with your logo and etching to make it black you said you reverse your leads. Do you start off with then reversed or do you do it like you did then reverse the leads to finish it? Thanks sir, Ive learned so much from you!!!
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks Жыл бұрын
You do the deep etching first. Once that's done, you can reverse the leads and make the bottom of your etching dark. If you did the opposite, you'd just be taking off the blackness with the deep etch. Personally I prefer the silver "translucent" look because the center of my logo is a pretty large space. Thanks for watching, Gayle.

Thanks for video! Great explainations and illustrations. Love you videos and knives. Between you and Airin I might be able to make a decent knife someday. I do not do the forging but use steel bar. I would like to be able to put a maker's mark on my knives using your technique. I have been to the website but do not know exactly which stencil to order. Can you help me?

Although the shark mark is cool it might not be the best or most appropriate mark for a knife maker. When designing a logo, the designer needs and owner need to consider the many places the logo will live. Extra thought needs to be given to where the logo will appear most often. One solution may be to omit your TK initials and make the shark mark smaller for etching blades. If you wish to keep the shark mark and the initials then perhaps you only use that combination on larger media.
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your input. I think I'll keep my maker's mark as is... I do plan on getting a slightly smaller version for smaller knives though.

I was a cabinet maker for over 25 years and when you’re a cabinet maker You sand a lot So I tried a random orbital sander not a vibrating sander on my kitchen knives and I went from five hours of sanding to one I sand up to 220 and start 220 by hand up to 600 or 1000 leave the 220 machine finish and use a scotch bright belt beautiful satin finish not kidding
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 2 жыл бұрын
The problem with those orbital sanders is that they can wash out your lines. Same with the scotchbrite belts. I only use the conditioning belts on chef knives where I want to round off the edges and they don’t have plunge lines, flats or false edges. With hunting knives it tends to round over all those edges and you lose all that nice definition. Thanks for watching!

You provide them an image and the first time there’s a one-time “artwork” fee which if I remember was $25, then a sheet is around $60 I think. That was a few years ago though.

@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 2 жыл бұрын
@@firework5493 It's possible, I've seen guys do it. It's more difficult than copper though since the melting point of brass is about 200F lower than copper. You'd need to keep the billet below 1600F or you'll melt the brass.
