These seiko homages are more faithful in the spirit to the original than the original seiko reissues. They are affordable, reliable and got great water resistance. The seiko resissues are too expensive for recalling the original spirit of the timepiece

Yeah i agree. And also, if you think about how much more the better homages offer at a fraction of a price... I can live with a no name brand with zero originality offering much more, and usually with better qc than the original(no misalignments for example).

The one thing!? How about the multitude of things that make SD homages better out of the box than Seiko reissues: 1) AR coated sapphire crystal, 2) solid end links, 3) Seiko movement, 4) properly aligned bezel insert, 5) insane lume, 6) comically low price = high wearability due to no fear of scratching up your high-cost collectible, 7) total availability & ease of access To me, that's no choice at all. For 100.00 - 200.00 USD, the homages are now delivering what Seiko was originally: a simply great watch that almost anyone can afford to buy & wear. I was a skeptic, now I'm all-in. Got a SD1933 (white) SD 1979 (green) and SD1962 (black) on the way to keep my SD1970 company. I have many other watches but the SDs are great for daily wear

Bought a Zissou Vostok a few years ago and was the only watch I wore for over a year until I developed a total watch addiction and purchased a dozen more. Threw away the bracelet and put it on a classic Bond Nato and it's perfect. The only watch I wear with a Nato now.

I wear all my Vostoks on NATOs, all 420s on NATOs that feature black & red to match the unique bezel. I do have a 420 with the Submarine dial and it might go on a waffle, IDK, just feels proper. Much love for Vostok 420s 👍

Thanks for the review. I check the Vostok site at least 3 times a week, so I was sorry I missed the Zissou. I bought the watch from another Russian authorized dealer for $65 and change w/free shipping. I've bought from them before and they're reliable. Then I got two Zissou case backs and a couple of bracelets and other stuff from Vostok. So it all worked out. Since I got the Vostok bug from you, I've bought 15 - all different. Amphibias, Komanderskies, Amfibia Reef, Buyalov's, a Retro, and a Kremlin model. They've got everything. I'm really hooked, thanks to you.

That Vostok is awesome👍😎. I may be tempted to add “just one more Vostok”😁. I’m really tending to wear my Vostok 710 as my everyday watch. It takes real effort to swap to something else.😂 Steeldive SD1970 is really nice. I picked one up on a waffle for my 11 year old for Xmas. Along with a “Charlie Don’t Surf” T-Shirt. He’s really into airsoft, paddle boarding and snorkelling etc. So it should get a really good work out and will see how it survives.

Bought the Vostok Komandirkie with the mesh strap earlier on this year one the best watches I’ve bought still brings a wee smile to my face when I wear it. Great value for money reminds me of the Lada I drove many years ago basic, functional and does the job.

I picked up a Steeldive SD1970 only a couple of weeks ago for $138 USD on rubber. I am very happy with it. I wanted a Seiko Capt Willard re-issue in green for some time now, but with all the QC issues with misaligned bezels, I decided that unless the Willard drops in price by half, I will happily wear my perfectly aligned bezeled Steeldive. I have lost confidence in Seiko so now I look to alternatives. I doubt Seiko is losing much sleep over it though.

Fantastic trio, the Zissou caseback is dope. Now just add a Casio JDM F84W, just because one more Casio of course. The Steeldive is more than an homage, it is what Seiko was not so long ago, the best diver money could buy. The SKX is King, Robert Redford approves, when all is lost... Seiko.

Great video Jody, all fine watches. My SKX007k is fantastic on the supplied jubilee. I got the whole thing used off the bay in the 90's and it's still fantastic unmodded, what a great deal. Oh no, I may have to get a Vostoc and case back, another rabbit hole you're sending me down! Bill Murray was also in groundhog day, a really great movie.

I love the 6105 watch case. I simply do not understand why Seiko cannot get the crown placement at EXACTLY 4pm as these homages do. My favourite homage by miles is the Smiths PRS-68 Baby Willard with crown at 4pm 😀. It is my daily watch and I will not part with it for the Willard X with misplaced crown.

I love Bill Murray. He is a local, living in Charleston South Carolina. He owns a baseball team here . I am wearing a Vostok Komandirski K39 399774. If I knew they had a bill Murray version, I would have bought it at the same time. They don't have a 24mm mesh, so I put mine on a Panzera mesh that came on my Aquamarine pro diver

I just bought a few more Vostoks myself and picked up the Zissou caseback for one of them. Love Wes Anderson's movies. But, the caseback on mine is beginning to wear off already only about one week into owning it and having worn it only a few times. I'd suggest putting a clearcoat or some kind of protective layer over the caseback so it doesn't wear off like mine already is. I'll have to pickup another next time I buy some more Vostoks and do that too.

I reckon I know exactly why you bought a SKX J model on rubber - same reason I did - it’s all original and I’m keeping mine that way for ever - an all original SKX is only going to go up and up in value over the next few years - and I think it’s important to keep a preserved, unmodified example - important watch!

For those who are Zissou fans, the rest of the crew also wear Vostoks. Owen Wilson appears to wear the 420526 as well, most of the crew appear to be wearing Komandirskie 811879s or maybe 811055s. There are threads on this on watchuseek. For watch nerds that's quite funny because Komandirskies are not dive rated. I wonder if that was an intentional in-joke?

I got the Steeldive, it's a very nice watch for the money. But that bracelet! Those four tags that fit on the back of the watch were very sharp indeed on mine. Had to replace it with a rubber strap.

Bought a NoLogo Steeldive Willard on black nato strap. Swapped the band for a black waffle strap. I love this watch & am sorry I bought other brands as I an throughly pleased with this as my everyday beater

The SKX works really well on a Barton Silicone strap. If you’ve got a 22mm one spare then try it out, it’s a great combination for the price.

I modded one, and pushed the inside of the watch crystal very lightly with a cloth to remove a spec of something, and the crystal popped out. And what’s really crazy, it had been glued on. No one likes to talk about it. But amphibia crystals are indeed glued on.

My black Streeldive on the Isofrane is one of my favorite pieces. Some make excuses for Seiko's inconsistent build quality and I don't agree...and the Steeldive is why! There just isn't anything wrong with it. Thanks mate!

Still haven’t bought a Vostock, although we have a shopping channel called ideal world that sells the Vostock Europe range in the UK. Apparently these are all hand made in Vilnius, Lithuania. Some of these have the vertically mounted GTLS tubes and prices are pretty reasonable from £200 to £900. After buying my last watch, my Mrs said she was packing work up and sending me back to work if I bought JOMW. 😂😂 I’m not surprised though, as I’ve had 2 bikes and 2 watches in last 18 months of retirement . 😂😂 Looks like I might have to flip one of my other watches to get a new one. 😂

I picked up a Willard Steeldive for the 11/11 sale as well. Not a fan of the bracelet so I'll be changing it but overall it's pretty good.
