Just got my TiVo up and running. I am/was a FireStick 4K user. TiVo is much faster the Firestick, hands down. Once you become accustomed to the menu layouts, not much different then FireStick. I like the TiVo menus better now that I have been using them! Haven’t tried side loading yet... so far, two thumbs up.

Triple M side loading: no problem. Only got Typhoon so far and runs smoothly. Far less buffering then Fire Stick. When I get a few moments I’ll load more!

Use app x-plore to sideload stuff with the cloud server. I use Google drive and Microsoft one drive perfect. I use the phone to load the files in the cloud them go to x-plore app to receive. And then your stuff is always available. Shit u could go house to house n get your content

I have both Tivo and Amazon 4k. To be honest it is hit and miss for both. Tivo could use forward and backwards buttons like the Amazon 4k. Amazon 4k could the guide button like Tivo has. That is my opinion. But the price for now until the end of the month.... I already purchased 4 more Tivo's..

This is my little overview after testing. Pros: 1. Android TV. 2. TiVo app brings together paid services. 3. Remote (see also Cons 7.). Cons: 1. Power control (CEC), my unit is connected to AV receiver, it will turn on/off TV, receiver and control receiver volume, but unit is missing Power Control as Nvidia Shield have (also Android 9). When i'm not using it, it will randomly wake up and change inputs and when it goes to sleep it will shut down everything. Power settings needs to be added, otherwise it's not possible use it with receiver. 2. TiVo app doesn't inegrate live TV services like HD Homerun and Pluto. 3. Tivo app TV Guide doesn't have channel numbers, and no Exit, you have to use Home button. 4. Small internal storage, yes, you can add but it's extra cost. 5. No wired internet. 6. You can't remove or move TiVo Stream and Netflix tiles from Favorites first spots. No need them there, both have channels and you can't remove TiVo channel. 7. Remote, 25+ buttons but no dedicated Play/Pause, FF and RW buttons !? 8. Some apps are running slower than on same price class devices. 9. No color effect on main screen like other Android TV devices. 10. No phone app. Conclusion: 3/5, when all software related issues are getting fixed I will give 4/5. Basic official Android TV with TiVo app (similar to Xiaomi Mi Box S). OK device who has many paid streaming services and using basic setup (TV and TiVo Stream 4K only).

Best thing about the Tivo is the fact there are no ads, and you only have 2 forced apps. Amazon seems to keep adding apps you cant get rid of and tons of ads. So int he end the Tivo is much cleaner looking and you seem to have more space because of the lack of forced apps.

Icut the cable four years ago and use a TiVo Romeo mainly for OTA. But it does have an interface for streaming apps. I've streamed Amazon Prime and KZbin with it and it is pretty good. It is not 4K and it is a little clunky to operate. I'd apprecaite your comenst on whether I should consider this TiVo to compliment the Romeo. (I mainly use the Romeo to DVR OTA programs).

Good video. I have a serious problem with the Tivo. It doesn't allow audio pass-through in the Kodi app. That means that my receiver can't utilize the 5.1 or the 7.1 codec. Bummer.

Definitely TiVo Stream 4K. I have one and I like it a lot. If you want HBO Max, get TIVO Stream. I prefer it to my Amazon Fire built in TV, which doesn’t have HBO Max app.

Love my Tivo stream 4k. I use Netflix, CBS All Access, Hulu, Disney Plus, Amazon Video, Sling and HBO Max. Great have all of these in one place.

Great reviews brother! new sub here.. really thorough and detailed...The only thing i wish was added was a review of the Audio quality...as a home theater user, this is critical to me but most people who have these sticks do not have them on a full surround system and could care less about audio...The audio formats, does it do true audio passthru, and the observed bitrates for audio when using netflix and prime are my concern... otherwise, stellar reviews!!

I think that with any new devices there will be some issues that can be addressed in software updates. The issues that he listed are valid, But I do think that the upside looks really good for this device. I also feel like my audience appreciates the versatility of this device as it pertains to cutting the cord. Having said that, I have been relaying issues to TiVO, hopefully, they will be pushing out bug fixes soon.

This isn't like the old Tivo devices that recorded live TV for you to watch. This is mainly a streaming device. The only monthly subscriptions you will be paying for are for premium services like Netflix, Hulu, and Sling TV. There are no paid monthly subscriptions just to use the device.

Heres another question, Is the Tivo Stream running a 64 bit operating system? If it does then the Tivo Stream is looking mighty strong when both devices aren't on sale. Maybe you can follow up with how emulation works on this. The specs plus possibly being 64 bit should let it run Gamecube, Dreamcast and PSP games pretty decently.

Not so thrilled about the Tivo remote. It's very buggy working with your TV. The Amazon remote is flawless with working with your TV. Also the Tivo comes with a lot of bloatware. Performance wise they feel the same.

Appreciate the comparison! I recently purchased the Tivo 4K and it was a pain getting it set up. Right now my main issue is trying to get it connected to my Vizio soundbar. I tried via Bluetooth; but I'm having a couple of issues. One is the out-of-sync/Kung Fu movie issue, the other is when I switch the soundbar from the aux connection for AT&T UVerse to Bluetooth, the volume inexplicably goes to max. Do you know what version Bluetooth the Tivo 4K has?

Nice review, but you never mentioned anything about Ethernet. The Firestick has a dongle that you can use hardwired, which many of us prefer. The TiVO still has questions on whether you can connect using Ethernet. I have heard conflicting news on whether Ethernet can be used with Tivo.

I currently have a Firestick, but I’m considering switching. I downloaded Maybe for apps & I keep getting messages saying my performance may be downgraded due to low storage. Not to mention there is so much I can’t delete, so it’s as if I’m forced to stay in the Amazon system. To your knowledge, does the TiVo have a lot of crap apps that you don’t find yourself watching that take up valuable storage? Not to mention I love the fact TiVo has a Number pad so I won’t have to endlessly scroll through multiple channels if I’m watching more than one program.

I would say a lot of crap apps, but they do have some apps that you cannot remove, not overbearing though. There is a way to remove some of them, but I haven't made a video on it though. Check out Philly Cabke Dave's Channel. I believe he did a video on it.
