RULES: gamerules.com/...
The object of the game is to checkmate the other king. Checkmate happens when the king is in a position to be captured, in check, and cannot escape from capture.
At the beginning of the game the chessboard is laid out so that each player is sitting across from the other and has the white or lighter colored square in the bottom right-hand side. The chess pieces are then arranged the same way each time. The second row is filled with pawns. The first row should be set up as follows going left to right: Rook, Knight, Bishop, Queen, King, Bishop, Knight, Rook. You’ve set it up correctly if your queen is on the same colored square as the color of the piece.
The player with the white pieces always moves first. A turn consists of moving 1 piece 1 time. Players alternate turns until the end of the game.
Spaces may not be shared by pieces. Pieces cannot move through or over any other piece. Opponents’ pieces can be captured by correctly moving your piece to the square of an opponent’s piece. When a piece is captured, it is eliminated and removed from the board. Each of the 6 different kinds of pieces has a unique way of moving:
Pawns move one square forward (toward your opponents side of the board) at a time, unless it is the first time it is moved during the game, in which case it may be moved up to 2 squares forward. Pawns can only capture pieces one diagonal square in front of them, and cannot capture pieces directly in front of them, but is instead unable to move forward. If a pawn reaches the other side of the board, it can be changed into any other type of piece. This is called a promotion.
Rooks can move any number of squares side to side, or back and forth. Rooks cannot move diagonally. Rooks cannot jump pieces but instead capture the first enemy piece they move into.
Knights move in the shape of an “L”, moving 2 squares in one direction, except diagonal, then one more square at a 90 degree angle. The knight jumps over any pieces in the way, capturing any opponent piece in its final move position.
Bishops can move any number of squares diagonally. They capture the first enemy piece they move into.
The Queen can move any number of squares in any direction. The queen captures the first enemy piece she moves into.
The King can only move one square at a time in any direction. The King can never move himself into “Check”.
Whenever a move directly results in the opponent’s king being threatened, (meaning if action is not taken, the next turn the King would be captured) the attacking player must say “Check”. The opponent must then use their turn to protect the king either by moving the king out of check, moving a different piece to block the path of the attacker, or by capturing the piece that threatens the king.
If a move directly results in the opponent’s king being threatened, and there is no move to protect the king, the attacking player declares “checkmate,” the game is over, and he wins. A draw, or stalemate, occurs when the king is not in check and the player cannot legally move any of his pieces or there is any other situation where there is an impossibility of checkmate.
There are a couple other types of unique moves. The first is castling: On a player’s turn he may move his king two squares over to one side and then move the rook from that side’s corner to right next to the king on the opposite side. However, in order to castle, the following conditions must be met: it must be that king’s very first move, it must be that rook’s very first move, there cannot be any pieces between the king and rook, and the king may not...

PIECES: pawn - one square forward, attacks diagonally rook - any number of squares forward or sideways, attacks any player in its way knight - moves in an L shape (2 forward, 3 sideways, or vice versa), can jump over pieces and attacks players at the end of the L bishop - moves any number of squares diagonally, attacks any piece in its way queen - any number of squares in any direction, attacks any piece in its way king - any one square in any direction, attacks any piece in its way none of the pieces can jump over other pieces (except for the knight) the only one that can be blocked from moving is the pawn (because they move forward and attack diagonally) check = the player’s king is being threatened by an opponent’s piece (meaning in the next move, he could be attacked) checkmate = the player’s king is in check and there is no way to legally move out of check

How the pieces move: Pawn - Moves straight forward one square at a time and captures diagonally. Knight - Moves like an L shape in any 2 directions. Bishop - Moves any number of squares diagonally in any direction. Rook - Moves any number of squares horizontally or vertically in either direction. King - Moves one square at a time in any direction. Queen - Moves any number of squares in any direction. Unique moves: Castling - The king moves 2 squares and the rook jumps one square over it (both pieces have to be on the square where they start). En Passant - A pawn can take an opponent's pawn by moving to the square directly above or below it (both pawns have to be on the same file one square apart from each other, the opponent's pawn has to be moved 2 squares forward in one move from where it started and the other pawn has to be on it's fifth rank).

to be more precise : if a pawn reaches the other side of the board, it has to be changed into one of the following pieces : queen, rook, knight bishop, of its own color there is another restriction to castle : the king and the rook must be on the same row, meaning it cannot be done with a pawn that just got promoted to a rook

Not covered: more ways the game can end in a draw other than stalemate Three move rule: a player can claim a draw if the same position occured three times. It doesn't have to be in a row. Fifty move rule: a player can claim a draw if there is no capture or pawn move during the last 50 moves. Insufficient material: both players don't have enough material to checkmate either way. Draw by agreement: a game can end in a draw if both players agree to end the game in a draw

This video is the most BASIC video I've seen. It does take time to learn and memorize where each piece can and cannot move. Repetition is the best way to learn and memorize the rules is to have someone slowly take you through the basics. Remember, this is NOT checkers. You'll get the hang of the rules quickly. I always test a new player by asking them what they can do with any given piece by setting up a few of opening movies to get them acquainted with their options. Give this game the time that it deserves!

Boutta be a long one, okay so Learning to play chess can seem intimidating at first, but it is a rewarding and engaging game to master. Below are the rules of chess and some tips to help you along the way: 1. Board and pieces: The chessboard has 64 squares, alternating between black and white. You will need 16 pieces -- one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. Each piece moves in a unique way. The objective of the game is to checkmate your opponent, which means to put their king in check and have no legal move to escape. 2. Moves: Each piece moves differently, and there are rules to each movement. The king can move one square in any direction, the queen can move in any direction as many moves as you want, the rooks move horizontally or vertically, knights move in an L-shape, bishops move diagonally, and pawns move forward one square. Pieces capture another piece by moving to the square the other piece is standing on. 3. Special moves: There are a few special moves to keep in mind, such as castling, en passant, and pawn promotion. Castling allows you to move your king two squares to the right or left and then move your rook to the other side of the king. En passant only applies to pawns and allows you to capture another pawn that moves forward two squares in one move. Pawn promotion allows a pawn to become any other piece except a king, and most often players choose to promote pawns to queens. 4. Opening and middle game: It is important to have a strong opening to set yourself up for a strong middle game. The opening is the first few moves of the game, and the middle game is where you start to develop your pieces and plan out a strategy. It is essential to control the center of the board and not make too many pawn moves in the beginning. 5. End game: The end game is the final few moves of the game where you can gain a significant advantage over your opponent. It is vital to keep track of the number of pieces remaining, especially if there is a possibility for a checkmate. 6. Strategy: The best chess players can think many moves ahead and anticipate their opponent's moves. It is essential to understand your opponent's strategy and plan accordingly. It is imperative to have a plan throughout the game and stick to it. 7. Practice: The more you

One thing he did get wrong is that the opponent doesnt have to say check, watch any GM play chess against another GM and they never say check at all. This is the correct way to play the game, its up to the opponent to see he/she is in check and if he/she tries to move another piece without dealing with check first they are stopped and shown the check and then made to move that piece touched to block if able or capture if able the attacking piece giving check, or are made to move another piece to deal with check. He also never mentioned that a 3 move repetition exists where should the players repeat their position 3 times in a row then the game is a default draw.
@1vader
@1vader 2 жыл бұрын
Yup. Rather, in any halfway professional game, calling out check would be pretty rude. It implies the opponent won't see that it's check by himself.

I think a better description of the queen's movements would be: "The queen can move any number of spaces in a column or row like a rook; or, any number of spaces diagonally like a bishop." The king's movement could be described by saying, "The king can move one square along a column or row, or one square diagonally..." and then the rest of what you said about him. 1:31 This is primarily what I clicked on this video to check. In 5D Chess With Multiverse Time Travel, which I see you've covered, a pawn (and I'm guessing a brawn) becomes a queen if it reaches the rearmost square of the rearmost timeline within that turn. "can be changed into any other piece." -even a king which can be checkmated? 3:12 I heard or read somebody mention "castling" years ago, and I never had any idea what this meant, so thank you for explaining this. 3:40 oo, I didn't know this either.

PIECES: Pawn: Moves forward (1 square), it can only attack diagonally (1 square). It can move (2 squares) forward if you haven't moved the said pawn yet. Rook: can move any number of spaces forward, sideways, or backwards, it will destroy any pieces in its path. Knight: it moves in an L pattern (2 squares forward, and 1 square sideways, and vice versa), it can jump over pieces. Bishop: can move any number of squares diagonally, will destroy any pieces in its path Queen: it can move diagonally, horizontally, vertically, in any direction, will destroy any pieces in its path King: it moves (1 square) in any direction, will destroy any pieces in its path. How to end the game: checkmate, the king is legally unable to move without getting itself in arms way of an attack. Unique moves: Castling: the king will move (2 spaces) sideways, and the rook jumps (1 space) sideways aswell. It must be on the same row En passant: if the opponent and your pawn is on the same row and also directly near each other, you can actually take the opponent's pawn by moving diagonally (1 square) behind or in front of the opponent's pawn, it can only be done if the opponent moves 2 spaces forward with their pawn beforehand. Promotion: if a pawn reaches the end of the board that the said pawn is moving towards, it has to promote Itself to 4 pieces, the Rook, the Knight, the Bishop, and most importantly, the queen. How to set up the board: first, at the bottom of the board, on one of its corners, place the rook, then, proceed to put a knight (1 square) Sideways of the rook, proceed to put a Bishop (1 square) sideways of the Knight, then proceed to put a King/Queen one square sideways of the bishop, after finishing your fist row, proceed to put a row of pawns (1 square) forward of your first row.

Knights can move in a form of an 'L' Kings can move any direction BUT can only move one at a time. Queens are one powerful ones, they can move in any direction. Pawns can move 2 times to their front but only in their first move. In the next moves, it can move forward one at a time. It can not move diagonally, left or right. If you want to eat with a pawn, it can only it ONE time in a diagonal form. ---------------------------------------------- The word 'Eat' in Chess is different. Try to search it up.
