What kind of bullshit is this? I am from Tripoli and proud. These people do exist, but are only a minority. It is funny how the media always wants to portray a certain image to create a scoop. Please do visit the whole city and not just one neighborhood before judging us in front of the whole world. And by the way, lots of christians are from or live in Tripoli. Atheist Lebanon I like you people trashing Islam under the name of atheism! being an atheist doesn't mean hating Muslims, or Christians by all means! I'm an atheist and I respect every religion! and Rim I definitely agree with you! Tripoli is an amazing city, a small minority is destroying the city's picture and these idiots at BBC are helping them by talking about them as if Tripoli is only these people! BBC pop up made Lebanon a country of drugs, prostitution, gays( not that there is anything wrong with that) and terrorism! I guess the ministry of tourism should stop these misleading videos! yes they exist, but they also exist everywhere else and there is no need to put that much light on them!

This is such bullshit. I'm a Lebanese Christian and live in probably one of the largest Christian cities in Lebanon (Jounieh). I work at least 3 days a week in Tripoli and love it, it is much more authentic than the capitol city Beirut. It's reports like this that make it hard for ordinary people as myself to make a living ( I operate a kite surfing school in Tripoli) why don't you report on that Benjamin? Once again this video is absolute bullshit. Sure there were some clashes that happened in ONE neighborhood so Mr. Benjamin here is lying when he says a city at war.

It is really unacceptable from BBC to show this side of the city and forget about all the beautiful aspects of it. This side of the city is similar to all big cities, where every poor neighborhood have problems and crimes (Paris, Detroit, Philadelphia...), but to give such a horrible title, and keep the image of the city hanged between extremism and less extremism is really shocking. The city have an huge variety, churches and mosques, christians and muslims... there is nightlife, beaches, excellent restaurants, maybe the best food and sweets in the middle east, beautiful old markets, a lot of historical sites, beautiful buildings, lovely people.... what BBC ONLY showed of the city is not acceptable, maybe the title should have been about the fighters, the neighborhood, but making such a general statement about the city is not acceptable. Those poor people and the people of the city are seeking opportunities, they need people to come to their city, buy from it, visit it's touristic sites, they need jobs... the media is continuously destroying the city's image, exactly what BBC have just done, it just MISinformed everyone on this planet that this city is risky, despite maybe the good intentions of the article. I am a christian who lived all my life in this city and love this city, I do not see more extremisms than what we see in Paris, Brussels... Many Arabian Gulf countries have way more extremism, and no one even dare to talk about that. Maybe I need to repeat what became lately somehow a cliche, muslims are not terrorists and not extremists, especially the big majority of the people in Tripoli, BBC should at least try to cover the other side of the city, and I know that many journalist have been there and saw what a lovely city it is.

With all my respect to everyone who appeared in this video , these people do not represent the MAJORITY of Tripoli's citizens . Make sure next time to mention the diversity you saw in the streets , on your way to Beb al Tebbane. Lebanon's extremist city? BBC should consider working on the content of their videos rather than their ' flangrant ' title to gain viewers and readers.

I have lived in Tripoli, Lebanon for a total of 8 non-consecutive years having been born in Norway. This video is the most misleading video i have seen on the city. My experience is in complete disagreement with how this video portrays the city. Tripoli being the second most largest city in Lebanon deserves to have more than just two streets filmed before making a sweeping irrational generalisation about it. The city is so diverse. What this video has done is mainly taken two people each representing a minority within their ideology and insinuated that the rest of the population of Tripoli belongs to either of these idealogies when in reality the majority of sunni muslims and alawites dont share the same belief as these two individuals. Not to mentionn that there are also christian neighborhoods as well. Dispicable.

i Remember in the early 2000 Tripoli was competing with Beirut, then all of sudden things went chaotic, it is really sad to see a wonderful and ancient city being completely left behind by our government, and ffs BBC tripoli is much beautiful than that, at least show some images of tripoli and how beautiful it is then go the poor neighborhoods. I'm not denying that there isn't poverty in tripoli and they need to be focused on, But what you did was purely american way, you just painted a whole city as a radical muslim sunnis, which is not, there are some "strict" muslim sunnis there, but they don't want to blow people and fight infidels, they want some attention from our government and job opporunities, and that guy Atris said that, Maybe applying Sharia law in our city we will have a much better circumstances, because Tripoli has been unfairly forgotten, even though it is a wonderful city with wonderful people. And one more thing why are you asking about Sharia law as if it's a death cult? Sharia law is a just system, and it evolve with time and generation, it's not about sending people 1400 years backward, or behead people and stone them to death... It's sad that even muslims misunderstand sharia law among themselves...

So if the Lebanese army wasn't in the city, can we honestly say that a group like ISIS couldn't gain foothold in Tripoli? Yes, the city isn't all like shown in this documentary, but there are MANY in certain sectors of Tripoli's Sunni population who support global jihadist groups. Beirut is also a mostly Sunni city- but it's definitely not Tripoli. Yes, there are many terrorists and terrorist supporters in Tripoli, and it's not among the Alawites or Christians in the city.

I think that a lot of points are over exaggerated, you guys keep on focusing negative details rather than whats actually true, make a documentary about the nightlife or something good. Spreading negativity won't change anything it will only worsen the situation imagine how many people will think of lebanon as a shithole after watching this documentary. On the other hand putting pressure and putting these potential threats in jail is a very good strategy it scares these young guys and controls them if the people in jail get released they will think that they were right and will most probably continue whatever they started and that would be a threat to the region. What a shame look back at all the videos you guys have done none if it shows any good aspect of the country... whats next?

I would like to comment on how this video make its seem as if Tripoli as a whole is like this... IT IS NOT. Like you have mentioned in the video, Tripoli is the 2nd biggest city in Leb but what you have shown is only a small part of it. This gives a really bad reputation for all of Tripoli. The Lebanese government is already trying to take the good things away from Tripoli and are ignoring their problems, it doesnt need false, negative, outside statements like this that would make the government discriminate against Tripoli even more.
