Thanks for the great videos of your beautiful country! Also thanks for showing the realistic part of fly fishing that everything isn’t just catching, there are those days that the river gods don’t just give you continuous catching. Here in Montana, we have the beautiful country side, we have those days when the fish just come, and we have those days when the adventure is what it is about. Thanks for being real. Great to see you get that last fish. What a beauty. They all were, but that one must have felt good. 🙂 My dad lived in NZ back in the late 50's(he married late I'm not _that_ old 😁) and he was a keen fisherman and passed that onto me. He lived and fished in the US and Aus too as well as the UK and here in Ireland and would tell me of the gin clear rivers and huge fish of New Zealand. As a kid when catching a pounder from an Irish river was a big deal there was a part of me thinking "ah da, g'way outa that" but with youtube and guys like you and Gareth it shows he wasn't winding me up. 🙂 He also spoke of long hikes into the middle of nowhere and they were lugging canvas tents and split cane rods which would have been fun. I do recall him telling me that they would degrease their silk lines and use them as intermediates to get down to the twitchier fish(funny enough I went back to silk 20 years ago because I find them better in a few ways). Though catch and release was a foreign concept back then he did tell me that they would only keep a couple "for the pot" - the smaller fish as they were more tasty apparently - and release the rest. Mad to think watching your travels that my dad may have fished in some of those same places all those years ago. 🙂

So typical of Wellington and South island browns bro, true masters of their domain.Cruising a beat is what they do,can't tell ya how many times i cast to a sighted fish only to have it seemingly disappear to come up behind me flicking me the middle finger as it goes past never to be seen again. Certainly can be very humbling Alex and gives you a whole new appreciation for our quarry, very different to the central north island fishery where the browns are competing with the "bows for dominance and food. Really enjoyed this video Alex some fantastic cinematography looking forward to ya next edition

By the time dusk comes I’m usually knackered, dry and enjoying a whisky by the fire!!!

Dude this series was epic! I was in it with you the whole time. BTW how DO you get out of there? No way you went back the way you came right?
