RE: Your question: shortly before my husband died (at a young age), while he was very sick, the Beatles song, Yesterday, came on the radio, and, in one of the few moments he spoke with regret, he said, "I wish I had my yesterdays back." Now, many years later, I still can't hear that song without getting very sad and teary.

"For My Broken Heart" by Reba - when I was stationed at Fort Ben Harrison, Indiana and he was stationed in Bad Tolz, Germany "If Tomorrow Never Comes" - fixing things with Dad while stationed in Germany "I'll Be" by Reba - came out right after my baby girl was born, Miami, FL "Baby Mine" - Allison Kraus is her lullaby "You'll Be In My Heart" Phil Collins - her brother's lullaby I could go on and on and on...some I have forgotten, but "The Song Remembers When" and reminds me from time to time.

One of my top favorites from Trisha. I just love how relatable and well written it is. There have been many times when a song would bring back memories I'd almost forgotten, such as certain moments with my parents. Too many to name. And yes, Trisha has one of the loveliest voices in country music, imo. Another one of my favorites from her is "Like We Never Had A Broken Heart," which would be another good one to check out.

I'm good Billy! Been married for over 30 years to the love of my life. But, like you said, certain songs bring up certain memories. There are even times I'll hear an old song on the radio and I can close my eyes and picture where I was and who I was with when I heard it. I love music, period. So this song has always spoke to me about the power a song can have. Even years later when you thought you had forgotten. And of course, Trisha's voice is angelic. Thanks for reacting to it. :)

Thanks for reacting to this. I've loved it since it first came out and it's one of those songs that no matter where I am, if I hear it, I have to sing along. I have tons of songs that remind me of people and times. I'm a very musical person. If I don't have music of some kind playing, then it's playing in my head. For as long as I remember songs have always been a way for me to remember things. Some sad times, some happy. One of the best times I ever had with my best friend was being on the phone and both of us on KZbin and we'd take turns suggesting songs for each other to play. We spent hours doing this. Many of the songs he loved and suggested, when I hear them now take me back to that time.

The song that I will always tie a certain person to is Stupid Boy by Keith Urban. The man was my first love, truly my first everything including ripping out my heart. In the song the chorus says "She laid her heart and soul right in your hands And you stole her every dream, and you crushed her plans She never even knew she had a choice And that's what happens when the only voice she hears is telling her she can't" A lot of my insecurities even now as a grown woman are due to him. He conditioned me at a young age to think I wasnt enough and what I wanted out of life was never enough or stupid and I am still trying to get over the things he said I couldn't do. When you hear the same thing by the man who you loved for 5 years especially at a young age it sticks with you.

Where There is Faith by 4Him meant a lot to me while my grandfather was dying of cancer back in the early 90s. A couple of days later I find out that a former coworker had died.

I've ALWAYS had music as a big part of my life. I'm exactly like you. So many songs so many memories. There's even songs that I've loved all my life that has evolved with different stages in my life like "Total Eclipse of the Heart". I recently found that emotions I've felt have changed for certain songs. For example anything Hannah Montana, Used to bring wonderful memories of my oldest daughter (19 yrs old) and I when she was little . After years of poison being fed to all 5 of my kids from their father and his side she decided to"Erase" me and take her 3 Young siblings with her (16 yrs old & twin 15 yrs old). So now even the "Bone Song" from Hannah Montana brings a knife to my heart.

When one of my sons got married, he had this played for our mother/son dance. I had a song I wanted, but he told me he had one picked out. Crazy song for the occasion, but he said every time he heard this song it took him back to the summer I hauled a bunch of smelly high school boys to summer league basketball games. I always had this tape playing, singing along, so that's what he thinks of whenever he hears this song. Oh well, the daughter/father dance was to the theme song from The Godfather as they watched it together every year. Those that didn't know, didn't know.

I’m a very musical person too, but for me, it’s not just certain songs remind me of certain people or bad times in my life, it’s literally every song that I’ve heard in my life reminds me of a time, a place, a person, a joke, something. A song can transport me to another place and time, whether it be the first time I heard it, something funny that happened while it was playing, an emotion I felt while listening to a song, it’s almost spiritual. I like to surf between the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s music on my tv and it’s a different journey every day. Some days, I hear songs that I heard growing up in the 80s and remember laying in my sisters pool at 12 years old and my niece putting a Dorito over her belly button to make a triangle tan, then the next song will take me to high school, sitting with my big brother listening to classic rock, then the next song will bring me close to the present when my youngest daughter would rock her head back and forth to that song, to being 8 years old when my mom would be cleaning and dance me around the living room to the song she loved. I can almost feel and smell the memories as if I were actually time traveling. This is what music does for me, it’s a kind of spiritual healing for me. All I can say is that I’m just glad that we don’t live in a “Footloose-ified” world because I probably wouldn’t make it! 😂

Re: your question certain groups will remind me of certain times. Every time I hear Switchfoot, I think of a twin and situation that wasn’t great for me. Every time I hear Far From Home (a Christian group from the very early 2000’s) I remember pulling into OKC from visiting Kansas with my then boyfriend (husband for 18 years now) for the first time. Great memory. And every time I hear It is Well With my Soul (hymn) I cry. That will bring me back to my daddy’s funeral every time.

Jessica Andrews - Who I Am [It's about her being Rose Mary's granddaughter] I rewrote so that it's about me being Joseph's granddaughter and the spitting image of my mother. He raised me and the song really got me through the hard times after cancer made him leave and heaven took him in. Martina McBride - How Far [it's about a broken relationship with her boyfriend] I feel like she is saying what my mom might have been feeling when she was fighting with HIV/Aids for her life [from her teen years until she died at age 29], before she died when I was in the 8th grade.

This is probably gonna sound bad, but the song, “Mr. Mom” by Lonestar reminds me of the day I started being friends with my mom. We went to a little Lonestar concert a few years back at a now closed down bar and when I ordered a drink, she asked me to get her one too. That was the first time I saw my mom drink, too. That started me actually going out and hanging out with my mom. Thank God, because she is really my only link to going outside for reasons other than work or friend/SOs. If you could react to that song, Billy, I’d appreciate it. You’ll get a laugh out of it, I promise.
