Oddly enough, my first love was my best friend in our senior year of high school. A few months after graduation, he broke my heart. But 15 years later, he finally "came out" and it was a relief! I thought, "Oh yeah! Hey, it wasn't just ME he rejected but ALL women!" LOL! Anyway, I got in touch with him years later and he's doing great and he is a gtandpa now! I am happily married so it all worked out. But man, that was a true heart break back then!

My first love was 60 years ago. I still love her to this day. Even marriage to another person will not make such memories go away. She was in Augusta and I was in New Orleans, and we met during summer vacation when I was in Augusta. The day that I had to go back to begin 11th grade, I felt like someone had stuck a knife in my heart.

Every time I hear this song, I think about how I was seconds away from giving up on the love of my life. We were childhood sweethearts, first boyfriend and girlfriend. I grew up, and broke her heart. For 5 years I couldn't get over her, and no one else could compare to my Amy. Then one day, she called. Said she never stopped loving me. I was about to get married, but gave us a chance, even though i had tried to move on. We've been married for 20 amazing years now, but this story in the song was almost ours.

I am very happy for how things worked out for you. I could write a book about my first (and only) love. She was beautiful, and wonderful, with no one ever like her. My GF and I were both 16. It was during summer vacation that we met, and I could not ever have imagined how wonderful love could have been. At the end of the summer, I had to go back home (700 mile away). The distance was too great for us to overcome. I found out five years ago that she had died from cancer; that really hurt me. I often think that I should have figured out a way to keep us together, but in 1964, it was impossible to make that happen, and it didn't

This song is so emotional for me because I actually have lived in Jasper County most of my life. The family that lives in her childhood home goes to church with me and I can tell you exactly where most of this was filmed because I’ve grown up around it. I’ve walked those tracks and been down the road with the older houses on my way back from school so watching this is so powerful to me.

Trisha is good, but Martina McBride and several other singers have higher skill levels and wider ranges. Everyone is allowed their opinion of course, but I was under the impression that twang is a known and recognizable part of country music that sets it apart from other music genres.

During our big family road trip down the East Coast in 2006--PA to Florida--JUST as we crossed the state line into Georgia in the middle of a downpour, Trisha Yearwood's "Georgia Rain" started to play. *Randomly.* My iTunes playlist had been on shuffle. I'll never forget staring around me at the red-tinged puddles and runoff streams as that song played. It was like we were in a bubble and time froze for 4 minutes and 13 seconds. Total silence in the car--everyone had chills. Tears. It was uncanny, poetic, transformative. We had to stop at the first opportunity afterward to recover--but in a good way. I felt so vulnerable and so connected to everyone and everything around me. Thank you for that experience, Trisha--and thank you, Georgia. ❤️ --Brandy in West Virginia

@@thetruth7416 If today's country music had 'evolved' naturally, I might agree with you. But the truth is that the labels decide who and what qualifies for promotion and airplay, so that, even if there are classic country artists making music, they get shunted aside. Mo Pitney is a good example. He's got a great traditional country style, but radio won't play him. The sad truth is that the quality of today's country music is shallow and melodically boring. But all the labels care about is glitz and money. Not a very good benchmark by any standard.

@Cynthia Robertson Many thanks for your kind words. I don't think that elderly people don't deserve to be respected and listened to. The difference that I noticed is, that, in the 30 year age gap between the two of us, there have been technical revolutions, which older people might not understand anymore. Also, due to the internet, e- Mail and the other stuff that has made our world so insanely fast, some of the people your age and above just might have missed. I think that this lead to the fact that elderly people get treated so unfairly nowadays. However: The feelings remain the same, no matter how old you get. This is where a higher amount of years on this planet comes into play. You might have gotten through some situations (like break-ups) already, but I haven't, so, you might be able to assist me and giving me advice to get trough tough situations like that. Getting older most likely means getting a little slower, but it does also mean getting wiser. I don't think it's fair to deny anyone's abilities, even a younger guy might know better than an older one, but what does hinder us from working together, with the best of both of our generations? I clearly say with utter conviction: Nothing.

@@utlot9785 No, we did get engaged, but then life got in the way and pulled us into different directions. It was in East Germany in February 1990, just after the fall of the Berlin Wall. He wanted to stay behind to look after his Grandma, who raised him. I fled to West Germany to start a new life with new opportunities. Just a year later I moved permanently to the UK, aged just 20. I had 3 children, my 3rd grand baby is due in March. I am not in a relationship, but I'm happy.

Like most i have i have a love that got away . i hadn't lived in my home town for years so i for the first time in years drove around to all the places that meant something to me and of course her house ! I haven't seen her in years but thanks to this song it made a very sad day better and i will always think of her when i hear it .

Song written by Ed Hill and Karyn Rochelle. It was released in April 2005 as the lead-off single for her ninth studio album Jasper County. The song, her first Top 40 country hit since "Inside Out" in 2001, reached #15 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Her husband, Garth Brooks, provides background vocals for the song. Yearwood debuted the single as a surprise performer at the 2005 CMT Music Awards, for which she received multiple standing ovations throughout her performance.

'Georgia Rain' (the album version, 5:08(!), not the single version, 4:15 - as the end is dialled down way too quickly) is my favourite country song. The storytelling plays on my heartstrings, the song's simplicity lets Trisha's vocals shine, vocals that remind me of walking in the woods on a crisp autumnal morn, simply stunning.🧡

So many can relate to this song. I would say that young love is the best...sweet innocence, the bliss, the dreams of a future...all yours for the taking. I fell in love with a blue-eyed boy at age 15. Our love was brief as teens, but I never forgot those blue eyes. He was gorgeous. After college we reconnected. Electrical. We went on to have 30 years of a good marriage. Young love is great. I would say it's the best, but oh it's those precious last years I wouldn't trade for even another cherished day of youth . We truly were one. We grew more in love with time. One evening we kissed good-night, said "I love you" as always, when suddenly he fell to the floor, dead of a heart attack. Only 52 years old with anticipation of us spending so much time together. His blue eyes still reflect in our beautiful grown sons. I will love him the rest of my life.

Melvin Trumbo Never really liked Trish all that much but she hit this one about "What could have been" very perfectly and in a different way than "Strawberry Wine" did for Deana Carter. Just like you folks, it takes me back to 1980 and all the changes since then.. But some things never change... What could have been. And I got married for the first time in 2011. 40 years old. Took me that long to find the perfect one. And we walk dow n the street and everyone says we are so involve and we are. But i still remember the Georgia Rain....

@ChrisMitchell-ww3jq7 ай бұрын
Underrated? Not really. She's made 15 studio albums, 9 comps, 43 videos, 29 singles, and appears on 30 other albums. You are correct though, she's beautiful and talented, with a voice that is one in a generation. In addition to this Masterpiece, my two other favorites are. "Hard Promises To Keep," and "The Nightingale." Why both were never popular is a complete mystery. That music, those lyrics, her voice ... [sigh]
@mbronson24667 ай бұрын
@@ChrisMitchell-ww3jq I say underrated because in comparison to several other country stars that came out in the 90s like Faith Hill and Shania Twain she’s not as well known by people outside of the genre. I’m not saying that she wasn’t successful in her. I mean that she hasn’t gained the same level of notoriety.

A year ago I would have agreed with you. Now, I would posit "For The Last Time" is even better than "Georgia Rain", and that's in itself is a fantastic song.

She probably does relate to the lyrics to some degree..... she is from Monticello, so Georgia is her home state and has to have added that extra spark to her interpretation. You can really see her revelling in the familiar sights and sounds of the Georgia countryside. Outstanding performance and video.
