I️ am an in-line speed skater in the US. We mainly use 3x100 setups for kids who are just learning and then they move to 3x110. If your older like me I️ started on 4x100 and moved up to a high low frame which is a 110mm wheel at the toe and the back two wheels and a 100mm wheel in the second spot. The purpose of that setup is to make you feel lower to the ground but still give you the speed of the 110. There are other setups too like 4x110 which is a more advance setup. The 3x125 is really mainly for outdoors for speed skating when we do marathons but I️ just stick to my high low set up but change the wheels out to outdoor wheels instead of indoor wheels.

Colleen Richards ....I use to do the 4x80mm but it didn’t feel comfortable at all. I have been skating for 30 years now, started out at 5. I inline,rollerskate,and ice skate. During my inline skating I would always stick to the 4x80mm, next thing I know as I was in line skating one day, my foot was saying, “I am not liking this”.lol. So I ended up donating those skates and doing some research and testing out the 3 wheel inlines, I started out with with the Powerslide Reign Trinity 3x100mm, and since then I have not had the thought of ever going back to a 4 wheel at all.I am now upgrading to a second pair of 3 wheel inlines which are the Rollerblade RB 3WD 3x110mm with the SG7 bearings. I will be upgrading the bearings and getting more wheels.

Should i get 3x125 for speed? Note: i know how to skate very wellll
@ronvanrijn1956 Жыл бұрын
I started 7 years ago with 4*80 wheels rockered placed . Now I bought 3 * 110 wheels, they go very fast, you can make turns with them and you don't notice all the small bumps on the bike path. Now I alternately use the 4*80 rockered to make figures like figure skating on ice. And alternately the 3*110 for speed and as a good taining. So they both have their pros and cons It is all about what you want to do with the type of scate

I'm using 125mm triskates (Powerslide Megacruisers Pro) and I'm delighted how fast they are and how smooth can the ride be. In my neighbourhood there're hardly any public spaces where the pavement is approprite for skating. So the big wheels give me much more relaxed and comfortable feeling while skating on rough surfaces. I think the manuverability of 3 x 125mm can be compared to 4 x 84 mm (which I used previously). I'm very happy that I've decided to buy triskates without exactly having an opportunity to try them before buying (what I recommend everyone).

In reply to Te Za (but for some reason this reply keeps going to the wrong place?): I have the same problem with surfaces. Being a new skater the larger diameters leave me much less to worry about with cracks, sticks, and other debris littering everywhere I try to skate. I'm using Powerslide Megacruisers also but am working up to 125mm in stages- now at 110mm. It's nice to have the clearance for a range of wheel sizes.

To each his own, I tried 3x125 and didn't like them at all. They actually handle rough asphalt much worse than a similar 4x100 setup. Also braking (t-stop) is much harder on the 3x125 setup because you have less contact with the ground. Plus to me 3x125 look like clown skates. If you want a large diameter setup and also great maneuverability, I would recommend rockered 4x100 setup, like K2 Sodo or Wizard NR100/NR110 skates.

I've also found the 110's on my Seba FR1's to be heavy and rather tall. Dropping to 100mm wheels had very good results. A dedicated Seba frame for 3x100 could drop the over-the-wheel clearance significantly, lowering the boot, and making the skate much more stable and easy to turn.

You can’t fit 4x125. On the largest of speed frames... I love the 3x125 but I found in training I used 110 and be befitted from the weight loss (speed gain) I am now back to 4x110, there are stability issues with tri skates inside, sometimes 4 is better than three... but I also have the luxury of swapping frames to have my tri skates back again.
@micromoron33096 жыл бұрын
For road speed skating 3 wheels would be better because turns can be very tight, but with track speed skating you would not necessarily need as much maneuverability so 4 wheel would be better for consistent turns on an oval track. And the faster you go on actual speed skates the more prone to speed wobble you become because of how little ankle support you have so it helps to have a longer wheelbase to keep stable at high speeds (30+ mph.).
@micromoron33096 жыл бұрын
Personally I like 4 wheel frames because of high speed stability, and the fact that all the triskates on amazon are more expensive than the 4 wheel skates that I am looking into buying.

You might be too heavy for a tri-skate with a soft boot? You could mount the 110 frame on your twisters, im sure there'd be a difference. I'm using matter wheels (125mm)on a megacruiser frame on a metropolis boot I enjoy the extra speed over my k2 uptowns (4x 80mm) for commuting and the uphills, but the uptowns are better for skating round the city personally. Thanks, enjoyed the video!!

When I started out skating, I use to get the inline skates with the 80mm wheels, for me and this is my own personal opinion, I do not like them at all. Are three wheel skates better for smoothness? Do they feel different from 4 wheel when riding on a bumpy surface or asphalt?
@EneRec4 жыл бұрын
I will tell you when I get mine
@BlackyRay_Patrick3 жыл бұрын
definitely yes. Smoothness is a big advantage of big wheels (it doesnt count if you got 3, 4 or 5 wheels, just the size matters) But of course the longer the frame the more stable but on the other side the less agile for turns you will become.... You are also higher from the ground which also gives you less support and stability why you really need a well fitting boot on big wheels.... I was skating with 4 wheels for 18 years. I started with 80 mm had a long periode of time with 84mm and my second last skate had 4x90mm. For this skate I was missing the agility of 84mm but on the same time I wanted to become faster. This is why I went for a Triskate. Next Pro 3x 110mm. This is my Dream Setup. I was skating it for 2 Year and now got a Balanced Rocker Endless 4x90/3x110 frame. I like the 4x90 Rockered Setup but still the shortest possible 3x110 Frame (standard frame) is still may most prefered and best one.... Its cool to be faster than People on there Bikes and to keep the speed easier and to travel on rough surfaces with them which are so much easier handling this kind of surface than my four wheel setups....
@BlackyRay_Patrick2 жыл бұрын
@Mirion Mir your welcome. Hopefully it will perfectly fit your foot shape. This is the hardest thing about skating but heatmolting or just breaking in often helps. If there are any questions in the future I'd love to support you and would gladly hear some Feedback from you:)
@pit9623 Жыл бұрын
@@BlackyRay_Patrick In this context, I can recommend testing the Endless 80/84/100 Frame with 3x90 mm wheels. Fast and extremely agile and very stable thanks to the 255mm frame length. I use Wicked Abec 9 bearings and 88A Powerslide spinners. If you can afford it, you should buy MatterG13 wheels or Undercover. If the surface changes frequently, I would also consider softer wheels, such as 86A or 85A. This increases comfort, but reduces speed.

Maybe it's my imagination but, as a new skater, it seems that triskates make it easier to feel the weight transfer necessary to do actions like forward=>backward transitions - weighting the toe or heel of the skates. With longer quads the feeling is more muted by weight being on multiple wheels. Does anyone else feel this is the case? Also, with triskates the bearings are supporting more per bearing and inferior or worn bearings are much more immediately noticeable. Once again, thanks for an enjoyable video discussion, JP Jay!

One year ago I started inlineskating on smooth and clean concrete Hockeyrinks with a 3x90mm Hockeyskate with a 215mm 3x100mm Frame. This setup is very agile and reactive for Hockey. Last week I tryed skating around town on sidewalks and cyclepaths crossing streets a lot with curbsides for the first time with my hockeyskates. The surface was uneven, rough, bumpy with debris, cobblestones and some edges and less place for maneuvers. This was a bad experience for me. Would different skates give me a more suitable setup for skating around in the town? If so, I have to decide between a Rollerblade Fusion84 (4x84mm, 255mm frame) or a 3x110mm hardboot setup ( for example Next110 with a 143mm frame). Which setup is better for bad surfaces? Or is there different suitable setup?
@BlackyRay_Patrick3 жыл бұрын
for bad surfaces the bigger the wheels the better you can handle these rough surfaces and it will feel much smoother..... Its definitely a big difference. You are also less likely to get stuck by cobblestone, gravel or branches.... Im cursious how you decided and what setup you are using now.

I do alot of city skating and i am in definite need of some new skates! I currently have a 5 wheel skate with 78mm. I had a 4 wheel skate before that. I learned on those. My skates are 20 yrs old lol. The surfaces in my city are bad. I want a faster more of glide over any surface with strong stability. So i guess the 4 wheel would be better with a larger wheel. But i am just a novice skater. I am VERY curious about the triskates if they work for me better for urban skating. But they sit up SO high, they would be less stable. Maneuverability is a strong concern too. I would really appreciate some suggestions.

I have roller bladed/quad skated since age 5, now 32 and have never used any other make and never been disappointed. They are pretty unbeatable for speed and agility...Dunno if that's any help for ice skates lol but I cannot fault the brand...undoubtedly there are other equally good makes out there but I've never needed to try a switch...Also whenever I go ice skating, ALL the pro skaters there are wearing Bauer Ice skates :) I'm desperately saving for a pair of Bauer vapour 300 roller blades, I'm currently on a second hand pair of their k2 triskates and even well used they are savage!

I am using the Bauer Vapor X300 inline skates and i even can do a little bit of freestyle with them on the roads. I own a pair of Graf ice skates and it really doesn't matter what skates you got, it's your skill level. I can freestyle on a normal level and the Graf skates were only 60€ so for ice skates quite cheap. From using my X300 Inline skates, I can only recommend them because they are really stiff and have a great fit, the Vapor fit at the ankle is pretty nice. I know T-Blades are good for freestyle from some people, they are a little bit better for spins and turns. But your ice skates don't matter. It's your skill level but for 90€ the X300 are a good pair of skates. I'll buy the X500 when the ice rink in my city is opened again and I'm looking forward to them. If you have a hockey store in your city or st your ice rink i would recommend you to just try them out, how they fit and how they feel on the ice. The look does not really matter. Greetings, ~Flatty

#1 priority - Elbow pads and wrist guards or slider gloves - falling backward can be a surprise. #2 priority - Knee pads, in case of forward falls. #3 priority - Helmet. Unless you're teaching yourself backward acceleration or stair descent - then a helmet with a full face cage could become a literal face saver until balancing is second nature. My opinion only, from my own experience.
