*I feel like this was done for two reasons* : 1. They were in Atlanta a majority black city, while the league itself was having lots of issues swirling with their race relations so they said "ok we aren't gonna have a black act headline but we'll just add as many black people as humanly possible (a choir, really!?) & black people will like us again" which is not how that works like at all lol all it did was make everyone of all races uncomfortable at the cheap attempt of "unity" 2. Coldplay, Bruno & Beyonce were great so they assumed mixing genres was the way to go but really that was a mix of two genres: pop rock and R&B which is all singing so it's more seemless & its not a combo of like 4 or 5 genre like come on NFL you should've known better! Deserve all the heat they got!
@mangafanatic174 жыл бұрын
Every black artist they approached turned down the gig thanks to the politics going down at the time. As far as I'm concerned, this was more proof that politics don't belong in sports. Period.

How their set list should've been had they taken the time: Standard "edgy" guitar riff into Makes Me Wonder (pop-rock intro), This Love, One More Night - break into Sweet Victory like it's very well-rehearsed - transition into "sellout Maroon 5" and dragging haters - Girls Like You (professionally re-remixed because lez b honest, everyone's tired of it), Animals/Harder To Breathe mashup, Stereo Hearts (with Travie McCoy from Gym Class Heroes), Sugar, and Moves Like Jagger finale (Xtina's grand entrance).

For those who don’t know why Maroon 5 and Travis Scott were the performers this year, it was because they were the only ones who accepted the NFL’s invitation. A lot of the other artists they asked rejected the NFL because the NFL doesn’t support Black Lives Matter. So people like Rihanna, Jay Z, etc. said no because they didn’t agree with their stance on Black Lives Matter. So in short, Maroon 5 and Travis Scott were the last cookies in the cookie jar.

The reason why it was so disliked was because they didn’t play Sweet Victory. There was a petition for them to do it, and they SAID THEY WOULD, but all we got was a 3 second clip! Not even the song! I’m so disappointed, and what made it worse was that they took it and turned it into an introduction for sicko mode. 🤦🏽♀️ Not only did they embarrass themselves and disregard everyone who asked for it, but they also completely disrespected Stephen.
@gabriusv5 жыл бұрын
Bump. This was the reason. It was a huge deal, a MASSIVE deal on reddit. Sweet Victory was meant to honor the creator of SpongeBob's death last year to ALS. Instead, Sweet Victory was not played, no mention was made for the creator, and no awareness was made for ALS. The performance was a'ight. Just not the way they took liberties with the SpongeBob property to introduce Sicko Mode of all things.

This year's Super Bowl is disliked because there was a petition to put in the full "sweet victory" scene in the halftime show as a tribute to the creator of spongebob that passed away in 2018, it went viral and we were promised that it was going to happen because of so many people demanding it, millions and millions of people demanded it, and from what you saw, it wasn't the full scene since they basically yeeted that idea out, the animators even remade the scene so it could be shown and it was all thrown out the fucking window, NFL/Super Bowl is getting extremely hated on because of it. What they did is disrespectful imo.. Edit: thanks for the likes guys, much appreciated. R.I.P. Stephen Hillenburg.

Maroon 5 is such a good group and actually put on a good performance at their concerts. I feel like adding Travis Scott, the gospel music and the other two guys (idk them) was probably picked by someone else and they just had to go with it. Which is fine, but it doesn’t go with their type of music and that’s why it’s all so awkward and seems forced. They should’ve picked a different pop artist to perform with them, this mix just wasn’t it 🙃

Who cares? It still sounded pretty damn good. Honestly, as far as I'm concerned the main part of a musical performance, is the MUSIC.
