Most of the disaster was the sound was horribly mixed and cut in and out as they tried to fix it. This can be blamed on the NFL. They wouldn't let the Peas use their own equipment insisting that they go through the stadiums. then did not provide them the opportunity to do an adequate sound check. You find the same thing with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers where they didn't want to go through the trouble of setting up for live music and instead insisted on a prerecorded track. It was very obvious that they were not plugged in as Flea and Chad Smith were more interested in hamming it up than putting in a realistic air performance.
