Hiking 7 days across the island of Madeira

In January 2024 my partner Claudia and I spent a week backpacking across the Portuguese island of Madeira, with our original plan being to hike the 115 km Madeira Island Ultra Trail (MIUT) route from Porto Moniz to Machico. Madeira really blew us away, with some of the best hiking we've done anywhere in the world, and I think it's one of the best hiking destinations in Europe, particularly in winter, as you can hike in Madeira any time of the year. The island is very mountainous and has some of the best coastlines in the world. You'll need good legs for this hike, as there's a lot of steep climbing, but if you're up to the challenge I would highly recommend it.

Everyone in a 10 km radius is at risk when my wife doesn’t get her second cup of coffee, imagine how it dangerous it is without coffee 😅 going to share this video with her and suggest doing this hike, it looks spectacular but pretty demanding and I struggle with my knees hiking down (that’s why i prefer the bike), so not sure about this one. Cheers!

It's definitely a steep one in Madeira, but definitely worth it if your knees can handle it! Do be very careful to pack plenty of coffee though as there's not much available up there - it can be hard being paired with a caffeine fiend at times, stay strong, sir!
