The two main objectives of the bush fix were the most important! Hahaha. Your friend was a smart man telling you about the bounce back. Good temporary fix and work Sam Tim

Thanks Tim. That is pretty much my objective every day! Do not leak any of the red stuff and no bones broken...😁

Here is a thought about pushing the trees to the side. Work from the back of the side of the trail out to you. The trees wouldn't hang on other trees as you push them back because they would already be down. Just a thought. 😁

I think I read somewhere ratchet binders are usually 50:1 so 100lb force on the handle should be approx 5,000lbs tension and I believe lever binders are half that. I think the horse flys were trying to tell you to close the doors and windows 😁. Enjoyed the video. I had seen another video somewhere of someone else had same issue on the thumb on a cat mini.
@tristardiggin2 жыл бұрын
Wow! There is no telling how much force I had on those chains and binders😳. And yup they were probably saying close the cab up. The yellow jackets in upcoming video on this job certainly said close the cab up. The thumb is certainly the weak spot on this 308... Thanks, Sam

I was thinking “hammer time”. Fortunately or unfortunately we have a lot more horseflies here than rock. Good catch with the wayward tree.

That is strange about the horse flies constantly flying in the cab. Not so fortunate in an upcoming video with a similar tree 😳😤😫... Thanks

I found that the 36" bucket was what caused my thumb to bend out like that. i would only use it to dig holes with after that. It's a shame because that machine is more than capable of what you're doing with it but the thumbs just aren't built for it. that was a nice fix though. you might can weld some big washers on the end of the pin to keep it on there a little better. and the horse fly thing must be common. i fight them also! lol
@tristardiggin2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Well, maybe I should use the 24" for trees then. Hadn't thought of that. I agree the thumb was under built for this machine. I was wondering if other people were seeing the horse flies do that. By the time I finished the whole job I bet I killed 18 or so and a lot more got away, wierd...

I would recommend looking into the brand name called AMI. They have the best excavator attachment and thumbs there is. You would likely break the stick or bucket before you can damage one their thumbs. Check out letsdig 18. He has them on his machines and swears by them. Honestly I don't know what these equipment manufacturers are thinking when they put weak things like that on machines that are going to be used hard. Anyway God bless you Sam 🙏 love your videos
@tristardiggin2 жыл бұрын
Thanks and I appreciate the comment about enjoying the videos. I have seen those AMI thumbs on Letsdig18, they look very nice. I really like the way they have teeth going all the way accross. I agree they put a weak thumb on this machine, for sure. Especially the way its fattened to the pin. Needs to have bolts tapped on the ends of the pin to keep the ears from popping off... God Bless, Sam

I've heard some complaints about CAT thumbs. But hands down I wish I would have gone with Carolina Cat on my first mini-ex. My nemesis this week in the cab has been stink bugs. 🤣
@tristardiggin2 жыл бұрын
Right, would be nice if they were built stronger. I've seen a few machines on the tube from Carolina CAT seem to be good folks to work with. I'm with you on the stink bugs. They are everywhere...

Hey Mr Sam. How many days or hours would you say it took to clear that path.. Thanks!.. Stay safe out there.. Round my part of the Country which is N.C..We would call what you did with your thumb would be Macgyvering!😎
@tristardiggin2 жыл бұрын
To build the entrance and clear the path all the way to the top (1200') took 4 eight hour days. Macgyvering would be right in this repair. Thanks, Sam

Most of the time by the hour. I have an initial rate for the 1st day to help cover cost of moving equipment and then a set daily rate, based on 8 hours. I do a half day minimum on small equipment and full day minimum on larger equipment. Sam
