How to Use 2D Grade Control on Cat Excavator

As someone who has already put over 2k hours on this system on a pipe crew in a 2023 CAT 340, I can attest to its efficiency and utility. Also, the first thing I changed was turning off that on-grade noise. My cab is quiet.

I have a 317 with the Grade Control and a Laser catcher. The laser bench feature is not very accurate, the dealer is telling me I need a laser with at least 900 rpm for it to work correctly. Just an FYI for those looking into this feature.

How do you turn grade control/grade assist on if your dealer has turned it off

Okay, what If you travel back, and the machine starts to go up a hill or just one track, starts to move off the level, will you have to re bench Mark??

Yes. Each time the machine is moved, you have to establish benchmark.

We got a new 336 and 340 but i tried to used 2D grade control the icons are grey and can't use it, does my company has to do something or is not installed on the machines? Thx

I've just been getting to grips with these systems on a little 315 today. Had to work out how to re calibrate the bucket position sensor, but once I did, it's an absolute game changer. I've been operating 22 years and am not one of those people who say the likes of "a real operator don't need any of that computer or GPS stuff". I hear that BS from bitter, miserable assholes all the time.
