Zahabi is good but in this particular fight his opinion is as good as anyone else. He's not a boxing coach even the work he's done in striking is years behind what Floyd and his camp have in the bank. And the same cannot be said about Floyds camp because this is a boxing match not an MMA fight. One thing to note is Floyd is an EXCELLENT dirty boxer he uses elbows and forearms and has the gas tank to clinch all night. It doesn't sound like Firas even knows Floyds style of fighting.

For a main even they get payed 10k but for a mega fight it can be between 20-50k that the ref gets payed and it isn't hired by Floyd but Floyd says yes or no to which ref he prefers. Most of the time he don't care what ref it is but if a ref had a bad night on one of his fights then he will say no to that ref.

Roughing up Mayweather is more difficult than one might think. Floyd is good at dirty fighting himself; he rubs your face with a glove, throws elbows and borderline rabbit punches. Also, McGregor is not a dirty fighter. Stylistically Conor is...like Floyd, in my opinion. He is a wildman in press conferences, tactician and counterpuncher in the octagon. Dirty play could end to DQ after both foul but Conor is the one who gets caught. Floyd is the one who knows how to fight dirty specifically in boxing ring.

I know you're an MMA legend and all, but isn't it a touch naive to say we've seen all of McGregor's boxing capabilities in the Diaz fight when it was MMA and not boxing? He had so much more to worry about in that fight. If Conor could fight Nate without the fear of a ground game, in my mind there's only one winner and that's Conor.

mcgregor would have got knocked out in the first fight if it was a boxing match because he wouldnt be able to panic wrestle. and he would have got knocked out in the second fight if he couldnt clinch nate against the cage to recover. re watch both fights in a straight boxing match mgregor would be knocked out in the later rounds
@Michael-zi2qg
@Michael-zi2qg 7 жыл бұрын
omg you know so little, dont talk about mma. listen el beta: in the first diaz-mcgregor fight, mcgregor jumped from 145 to 170 within 2 months, his cardio couldnt keep up with it. hes the first fighter to ever do it, so nobody knew at that point how much it would affect the cardio, witch diaz is clearly a master of. before he gassed he outboxed nate so fucking easy. but dropped his defense cus of gassing. the second fight was a clearly proof of that... have in mind mcgregor walks around normally in 160-170 while nates normal weight is ´190-200.
@Michael-zi2qg
@Michael-zi2qg 7 жыл бұрын
he kept the weight of 170 and went in all 5 rounds, and nate have never looked the same again, hes face is droolin to the left
@liamd743
@liamd743 7 жыл бұрын
first nates normal weight is not 200lbs and according to mcregors coach john kavanagh he walks around at about 80kg (180lbs) when out of fight camp so there is at most a 5-10lb weight difference between mecgregor and diaz. second mcgregor did not jump up from 145 to 170 in 2 months he simply did not cut water weight for the fight. mcgregor is not the first fighter to not cut weight for a fight.

Honestly amazed you're even talking about the later rounds. Conor has never boxed 4 rounds against a journeyman let alone 12 against any elite boxer, and he's up against one of the best ever. It doesn't matter one bit Floyd is not a big puncher. He punches PLENTY hard enough to earn fighters' respect, otherwise people would just walk him down like they do Paulie. He is not feather fisted at all. The point is Conor will be humiliated, confused, and gassed by round 4 or 5 from missing basically everything he throws, and getting hit clean with all of Floyd's counters, that he won't even see coming. He'll then become easy pickings, it'll be target practice, and an easy ref mercy stoppage for Floyd. And you really think Conor wins one or more of the early rounds? Really? Floyd loses rounds to elite boxers. Conor is not an elite boxer, he's an elite MMA fighter who has the boxing skills of a half decent amateur. Floyd will win every minute of the fight.

Peasant, I didn't say amateurish, I said he has the skills of a half decent amateur. That is not even an insult. I mean he has amateur boxing skills. Lots of amateurs do have solid fundamentals, I mean fuck, look at Olympic level boxers,some of them have elite skills and they're amateurs. Conor has excellent boxing by MMA standards, the best alongside Cody, but in pro boxing it wouldn't even be national level, let alone world class. The level of boxing that he has is probably somewhere between regional and national level amateur boxing, that's certainly what it looked like against Van Heerden. He does some things well, but his defense is fucking terrible, his chin is up in the air, he has limited punch selection, and really struggled to time and land on a solid pro boxer. He was basic and hittable, like an amateur boxer. He'll be target practice for Floyd.

I do agree that this fight is a great platform for UFC, and Conor being Conor will definitely wins some boxing fans over. But more importantly he's once again, establishing himself to the general public. Since the large payday their going to get isn't from the hardcore fans of both sport, but regular folks who know just the basic of that sport, if that. That's the key to any sport growing, when their star can captivate the general public interests. After this fight Floyd will retire, since after Pacquiao lost to Horn, there isn't anyone in boxing that can draw in enough cash to make Floyd want to fight them. While UFC/MMA has Mcgregor who is the most charisma fighter we have seen since Muhammad Ali. With that said, I don't see how MMA can ever beat out the major sport like NFL, or NBA. Since the only athlete in MMA who can consistently make as much as you claim is going to be Conor, due to his innate showmanship. And those type of people only come along once a generation.

good to hear somebody who actually knows both sport and the differences. I love conor my second favorite fighter to Jon Jones but mayweather is going to handle him. the mma fans are not respecting how good and how long Mayweather had been doing this one thing
@derekfisher642
@derekfisher642 7 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I would use Jeff Horn's approach against Pacquiao as a rough blueprint. He did exactly that. Roughed up Pacquiao, headbutting, clinching, headlocking, etc... I would take the same approach with Mayweather, but empty more of the tank early. Mayweather is always at his weakest early on in his fights. He spends the first few rounds adjusting, measuring distance, speed, and determining his level of respect for his opponent's punching power (if he doesn't respect you, he'll come forward more). In my opinion, if Zab Judah would've emptied the tank earlier, he would've had a real shot.
@Byorin
@Byorin 7 жыл бұрын
Derek Fisher The Jeff Horn fight is not a great example to use because Pacquiao was robbed of the win. Seriously, check out the stats. Pac outboxed him. To be fair, your (and Coach Zahabi's) suggestion that McGregor get physical with Mayweather is probably McGregor's only chance to win.

This was a great breakdown. Conor's said in interviews things to suggest he's going to try something unorthodox with Floyd such as the things you've mentioned. He's said things like he's "going to show Floyd what real fighting is" and that he's "never thought boxing was the style to beat Floyd". I'm so intrigued to see what gameplan he has. I think your breakdown of Floyd's gameplan was spot on. He's going to be extremely cautious early on until he identifies Conor's weaknesses and will drag him into the later rounds where he will look to take over when Conor is tired and no longer a threat. Unlike many I'm convinced this won't go 12 rounds either way. Either McGregor will stop Floyd early, or Mayweather in the later rounds. The one factor that makes this fight very interesting for me is the psychological element. No doubt Floyd's fought better boxers than Conor, but he's definitely not fought anyone with as much confidence as McGregor. Conor will be stalking Mayweather down talking shit to him in the first 10 seconds of the fight, not to mention all the trash talk before the fight, how will Floyd react to that? An MMA fighter hands down calling him a bitch, will he crack and feel he needs to teach him a lesson? Conor's trash talk is another level, so will he get in Floyd's head? Now add in age, ring rust, and brittle hands and it becomes an interesting fight to me. Never looked forward to something more in my life!

A lot of people saying it was close.. But how? In my eyes it was a very clear 48-47 for Mcgregor. Rd1 and 2 for Mcgregor, if you say rd2 for Nate you are crazy, 2 takedowns, 4,30 of pure domination. Rd3 for Diaz, rd4 for Conor and the last round for Nate.. So 48-47 for Mcgregor.. If you don't agree, please explain. I see a lot of people saying Nate won, but if you ask how, they don't answer..
@VictorShephard

Stef Hendriks 48-47 is pretty close. That is a score of 3 rounds to 2 in a 5 round fight. The fight itself was close enough to justify a rematch.

You said you would do another video if you got so many likes. I think you got them.Here's my question. Conor is a power puncher in the octagon. Which blows me away, because throwing a punch starts with the foot. A kinetic chain of energy is built up when the rest of the body follows the foot and basically the energy is released through the fist in the form of a punch. I've only ever boxed in shoes, I've thrown punches with no shoes and felt like I couldn't get as good as a snap when I twist on whichever foot to turn my hip over when I am barefoot. Is the fact that Conor going to be wearing shoes going to actually add horsepower to his punching power? Or do I just need more practice punching with no shoes?

No way mcgregor was losing the boxing exchanges with Diaz in the 2nd fight. All Diaz's success came in the clinch against the cage throwing wild combos( a lot of the punches missed also ). Rogan's over the top commentary swayed opinion when Diaz was throwing. Everything in the centre mcgregor won, fair enough the leg kicks threw Diaz off. McGregor 100% a better boxer than Diaz.

Big fan of Coach Zahabi but match against Judah was not close other than the first round rounds. After that Mayweather began to eat Judah alive and mind you Judah had already 30+ pro fights. A little silly to even compare Judah to McGregor. Score cards were: Judge: Glen Hamada 119-109 Judge: Dave Moretti 116-112 Judge: Jerry Roth 117-111

One thing that clearly shows MMA to be far more dangerous than boxing is the amount of blood that covers the octagon compared what you see in the boxing ring. I've seen the octagon looking like a scene from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre many times. The boxing ring hardly ever needs to be cleaned up.

Floyd is at the level of the best defensive boxer in history and conor is at amateur regional level at pure boxing so the original post holds true past Conor's touch of death, punchers chance in the opening round. I'm rooting for Conor myself but I fear he will be embarrassed by Floyd and past round 3 won't pose Floyd any threat at all. There's just levels to this stuff and conor is at a high level combining various aspects of different martial arts while Floyd is exclusively expert at boxing and arguably one of the greatest to ever do so.

looking at cardio, how much of a difference will the round length make? i.e. Boxing = 36mins of fighting with 11minutes of break. whereas (you are correct mcgregor wilted after round 3 Diaz) MMA is 25mins with only 4mins break. could Conor carry the "touch of death" a lot farther into the rounds, especially if floyd is tentative in the early rounds? there's a big difference between 3 and 5 minutes rounds.

I definitely do not want to "disagree" with arguably the best coach in mixed martial arts but... even in the first fight you could tell the technical striking difference between Conor and Nate. Conor was really putting a beating on Nate and not really taking any damage UNTIL he gassed... just my opinion. What do you think Firas? By the way nice breakdown! Do a pick'em with Georges!

12:32 yes, Floyd will walk you down and let you pound on him. Floyd use that to where a guy was scoring all over him and he quit on the Stool. Floyd told the commentators, that it was his strategy. Also, Zab was P4P the best. I was actually going for Zab in those days. you are talking about boxers that has been boxing their whole lives. That like putting an MMA fighter in a No Gi touranment and expecting them to do great because they are in the UFC. We seen UFC fighters get crushed in seconds in No-Gi to include Olympic Silver medalist Sara Mcman

I think people like me will be reminded of how technically absorbing boxing is, it will help boxing. If mma grows it will be because the UFC, with its poor pay and bullying tactics, doesn't survive. I know that I am not interested in UFC ppv's because the fighters don't have the resources to show up and fight(weight cutting, barebones camps, misguided training techniques).

George Smith UFC's new ownership might end up getting someone killed in the cage. They let CM Punk fight Gall. Thankfully Gall took it easy on him. These guys have zero scruples.

10:40 that's common in boxing. Do some research. Yes he will know. Refs don't care. They take points sometimes without warning. Also, Conor will lose his purse if he fouls. See Dana White Interview.

The "touch of death" fades from exhaustion, his cardio is much better. BUT 2 factors no one seems to focus on: time of rounds, age difference. Floyd is 40 I believe, age plays a factor physiologically in terms of strength, reaction time, etc. Second, the rounds of boxing is 3 minutes vs. 5 minutes of grueling all out fighting in MMA. I've done both boxing and wrestling/combatives. You can rest easier while standing than grappling continously. Point is, boxing has more rounds but more rest frequency. Stand up, you can have an easier time to catch your breath than grappling and striking.

coach i think you should have watched conor/nate 2 again before you made this video , conor started with leg kicks in that fight and started to kick less and box more in the later rounds, contrary to your comments at 15:20.

Knee bump, step on foot, forearm grind, elbow strike, headbutt... is nothing new in boxing. I don't think you can surprise a Boxer with dirty boxing. AAAND, in a street fight McGregor would get shot by Mayweather's bodyguards.

I usually agree with Firas, but in this video he seems almost hesitant to give Conor praise where it is deserved for fear of receiving backlash or something. I mean, his recollection of McGregor-Diaz II is miles off. First off, Nate most certainly didn't outbox Conor. Conor was lighting Nate up on the feet in both fights. His cardio got him caught in the first fight cause he was headhunting. Second, he said Conor started leg kicking in the fourth round - Conor used leg kicks a lot in the first couple rounds, but he all but abandoned them in favor of boxing and occasional body kicks later in the fight. Firas needs to rewatch that fight, and maybe put it on mute, cause it seems like Joe's commentary leaked over into Firas' opinion.

I agree on the wide stance. If his stance is wide floyd will have to move around his legs in order to get close enough to hit him. I think he will use all of the ring as well. However the fight goes it's going to be really interesting to watch.

Zahabi is the only person who has blatantly stated that Conor's use of leg kicks is what helped him beat Nate, otherwise he would've been outboxed. Finally, someone who respects Conor's abilities but is objective and rational about his fighting style.

for the first Nate Diaz fight, Conor was gassed out because he was taking antibiotics. The second fight had the leg kick as a constant theme throughout all of the rounds. That was part of the game plan going in. He also used his left hand to knock Nate Diaz down twice in that fight.

thinking outside the box: 1. after the first few rounds if mcgregor doesn't land the "touch of death" do you believe its highly likely mcgregor can survive if he went purely into defensive mode?, knowing that may weather rarely becomes an aggressive fighter. of course by purely defensive i mean he only throws the left/overhand left when he feels in danger. 2. With the size and reach advantage and since he's been training probably since the eddie alvarez fight in mostly boxing couldn't conor just jab his way to a decision even though he's less skilled. similar to chris algieri/manny pacquiao. i know manny won but he had to work a lot to get inside that jab. 3. this is more an observation but the time i remember may weather being rocked the most was when he did his pull counter off marcos maidanas jab. maidana landed his left clean. i can make it a question, can you see mcgregor landing this with a higher percentage than punchers chance?

Martin Ojeda I think he addressed this in the past. He doesn't agree with the use of marijuana when competing. This is because it gives fighters an unfair advantage especially leading up to their fights. It takes away the edge and makes them less anxious leading up to the fight and more calm.

First mcgregor first initial attack against Nate Diaz was the leg kick and stood on it for 5 rounds so that was wrong and his cardio will be good because it takes more cardio because of the large muscle thrown in leg kicks ,now that's that off the table his cardio is only going to go up now that he's just using his arms.

Disagree with the last statement. Actually partially disagree. Because as you said it is not any ufc fighter, it is Conor. Only because of him this fight is interesting. Name, which Ufc fighter can do the same - promote himself enough to get the chance to fight with a first class boxer in a boxer ring. Nobody can and nobody will bring the same attention. Conor is unique and this match is unique. Some boxing match is boring, same with ufc. Some ufc fighters are very unique. Same in boxing. Lomachenko for example
