I have been using triton on my 210 mixed reef since jan 1st this year and have not done a water change since switching. And my corals are growing faster. Tank is clear and my last icp test wasn't bad.👍👍

Same for me...did it with my 210 gal tank and Triton worked well for me. Once things were stable...it was an easy choice. Water changes were reduced to ATO mostly and 1 or 2 changes a year or if an emergency occurred. Otherwise we end up chasing water changes and doing them just for the sake of doing them cause they say so or to prevent toxic build ups of things as mentioned in the video.

This product does not eliminate water changes. It eliminates routine water changes. Like they said in the video, Triton is going to be telling you to do water changes, sometimes several a month. Are you going to be up for doing them on and off when you’re out of the habit and routine of doing them?

I don't want to be the wackjob environmentalist here, but. How many gallons of drinkable water were saved with the brs 160 during the couple of years that run Triton? I think it is important to bring that topic to the conversation, the long term sustainability of the hobby.

I dunno, isn't water a renewable resource? You dump water down the drain, your local sewage system cleans it up, throws it back into the environment and it eventually makes its way back to the source of your water. I would think flying creatures halfway around the world on jets would be more of an environmental issue, but then again those jets don't fly for the animals, they fly for the people, and the animals just catch a "free" ride with them.

I would say you have a point with the water usage when I did water changes I used to change 40-50 gallons every 2 weeks that's equivalent to 200 gallons after the RO throws out the rejected water...i was possibly using 400g per month.. and thats not including ato water. A 210 evaporates alot.

Literally had this conversation with another reefer the other day. I think it is important to note that we are talking about all the people in reefing doing water changes, how much water is wasted to make the RODI water for the tanks, and really think about how many people's lives would benefit from all the water we waste with water changes.... Don't even get me started on the amount of plastic we use in the hobby. No judgement on others, but once I realized that I started approaching my hobby with the environment and well being of others in mind. I find it very ironic that as a reefer I wasn't really considering the impact I had on the reefs and my fellow people. Feels like if we who enjoy and benefit from the reefs should try to do more for them... Again no judgement on other. People doing more than me and people doing less. I am just looking to do better.

@@Mike__B you are right. Flying fish and corals across the world definitely isn't good in regards to carbon emotions. Understanding that people care about what they see, one could argue that it is a small sacrifice to bring awareness to the oceans and reefs. I know Reefing is why I've become more aware. I can't speak for others though.... As for the water, you are right again. It is renewable. Problem comes when we factor in the fact that most water in the world is not drink able. On top of that there are people in place such as Flint Michigan that still do not have clean water because the pipe lines still have lead leaching into the water.

@@InfamousAquatics I'm sorry... who's life is worse off because I use a set amount of water (for anything)? I should say how would their life be better with the water that comes from my municipality? I mean I feel you're pointing towards those around the world without potable drinking water, but the amount of water I have here does not affect how much water they have their. Now if you're suggesting bottling up tap water and sending it all over the place, we didn't do that before reefing really existed, so not sure why we'd do it now (and I personally would object to doing that anyways.)

Never used Triton, I never do water changes. I do use a Biodenitrator, a good skimmer, and Red Sea Color program A, B, C, D. Phosban if needed. I don't understand why Triton sells the idea that with their method you don't need water changes when in fact you don't need water changes even if you don't use any methods.
@Mike__B

But do you test for a ton of parameters with your water? That's what the Triton method really is, it's simply a testing method which tells you what you should do with your tank based off those test results. Sure one of the big things they promote is nutrient export via macro algae growth, but like you said not exactly rocket science on that approach.

I don’t understand the sudden urge for reefers trying to get away with not doing water changes. My reef tank is amazing in both growth and colors because I do weekly water changes. I have a 120 gallon and spend maybe $30 every 3 months buying salt vs the triton method “keep chaeto happy, send icp tests often, buy over priced additives that are never in stock and will cause your tank to crash when u run out, keeping a doser in tune, and constantly chase what element you are missing....” no thanks!
@SKEETER881978

I have not had a problem buying the triton core additives and $50 gets me about 1 1/2 mo on a 210...and my dosser has worked flawless so far... The cost is a little more that the salt i was going through but my time is worth a lot more to me and i can spend it viewing my tank and making fine adjustments rather than maintenance. I now have next to zero algae in the display (with 25g of algae in the sump) and only needs light and flow to be happy. My glass does not get film algae on it as fast as it used to and i might as well take the skimmer out because it doesn't pull much out anymore. I used to empty it every 3-5 days now 2 weeks or more. I will probably do a water change soon because 6mo is getting a bit long for me. This method is not for everyone and the sump has to be set up correctly, but it has been great for me so far.
BEWARE! These RO/DI Water Mistakes are sending $$ down the drain! Your reef tank deserves better.
