In 2019, a viewer sent April a very special cut of wood from a horse-chestnut tree once owned by American social reformer and women's rights activist Susan B. Anthony. We worked with April as she crafted a beautiful end table for her chaise lounge.

April I have to say that your skills and workmanship totally amazes me. I love how you start with nothing and end with a work of art, whether it be a functional piece such as the cooling off seat I call it, to a work of art such as this table. Keep up the great work, your works inspire this 51 yr old man to want to do more, Thank you.

OMGosh April! Quite the HONOR to have a slab of 150 year old horse chestnut that had seen significant events of Susan B. Anthony's life... ex., 1872 (when she was arrested for voting) and 1906 (when she passed and was lying in state in the homes front parlor). Totally deserved!!! Totally hold strong accomplished women in high esteem...thanks for what you do! Great, great video! :)

Very cool reclaimed wood! I work with similar though less historical reclaimed barnwood and slabs, and we often mix coffee into the epoxy to make the fills less noticeable. This works so well clients often do not realize the extent of the fill in.

Very nicely done, I love the simple understated elegance of the piece! My wife has been wanting a similar table for over the arm of our chaise, I have a welder and woodworking tools, what ever shall I make her..... One thing that surprised me at the end was the glass of.........water........after the cork display I thought for sure it would be whiskey.....

Really nice table and a great story. Here’s a tip for you I just learned. When you go to mount a top mark the center point on all four sides of both the top and the base. Then you match them up and they are centered all the way around.

For a lady with all the latest gadgets I'm surprised you did not get a CNC machine yet. You're at ease with computers so it would/could save you a lot of work and it would fit beautifully in your workshop. Also on another note, did you know that there is a special inexpensive tool to fit on a spray paint can turning it into a spray gun. Very handy and much easier on the finger.

Let me take a stab at this.... No, @leglamps, not because she is a woman. That question belies your bias not the OP. April is an inspiration because she shows herself to be a decent human being, knows she is not always right, is in this to learn new skills, has affection for friends and animals, loves her family, admires people who know their craft, is willing to share her venture into unknown territory be it fine instrument making or learning to weld, has a can-do attitude and has respect for her tools, her teachers, mother nature, God and country (especially Texas). She admits her mistakes and does all this in front of a camera so we can be entertained and yes, inspired, to tackle what we might otherwise think we cannot do. And kudos to her that she can make a living doing that. Her sponsors are pretty respectful of her style, too. So, yes, she's an inspiration and a breath of fresh air in a world that can get petty and self-absorbed. Find your heroes in everyday people. They are all around you.

April, I was on Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, WA. scuba diving an saw what I thought most beautiful black painted hulled sailboat. I had friend in drug store that developed 35mm film for me, then he'd come over a watch! Earlier I craved rope relief carvings around different nice pieces of flat wood. With the earlier carved rope around piece I had a border. I positioned a large mirror in 45° above my work bench. I'd position 35mm picture of new yacht pulling into Friday Harbor Marina an move projected picture through 45°mirror onto center piece of roped border (move projected forward or back from mirror to increase size of image on your bench). Then we'd sit there throughout the nite an relief carve this new arrival yacht! Beers later by morning this carving waxed an polished with temperature an biometric pressure weather gauges mounted on a personal carving of HIS YACHT! you know how many I came home with? Only one, the one I made for myself was that black hulled sailboat named the "Rainbird"! Fate would have it on one afternoon with no one else around I showed my friend, Don, the Rainbird. While we inspected the boat a large powerboat lost steering an was headed right for starboard rear quarter of sailboat! Don yells out across water to guy on bow with little boat hook "what you going to do with that little stick?" The guy yells, "HELP!" So Don an I board the Rainbird an put both our shoulders an body strength into pushing an walking that entire boat away from crushing an sinking the hull! So not only is the Rainbird my favorite sailboat with blue ribbon personal craving on my wall, I got to rescue it from sinking to the bottom of Friday Harbor Marina, with by best friend Don! Cool, Tim p.s. April, I thought of those carvings while watching you! By no means trying to tell you anything, but with today's tech, you should rig up that mirror on a 45° pointing down on your work bench, or any of your design, to place images projected straight down on your desk I'm looking at in your video. Could be unlimited source of images shinning down on your space! It's Cool! Love all your builds, chicken got it made! Tim

Cool project. Just a tip - when staining it's good to get into the habit of pouring smaller amounts of what you think you'll need of the stain into a smaller container - that way the applicator does not contaminate the can with particles of wood, dust, dirt, etc... Dipping directly into the can/container will result in introducing impurities for no reason. Hope that's helpful. GL.

A thick slab of rock, or polished acid-stained concrete, attachet to the bottom, would help with stability, I think. You could glue a piece of thick woolen cloth on the bottom, to make it easy to drag the table around in spite of the weight it would have.
