A little trick I use when fitting the crank seal to make sure it goes in square and only as far as it needs to: once the seal is in far enough, fit the circlip in the top of the bore and tap the seal the rest of the way in with that, just until it clicks into its groove, then you know it's in the right position.

I turned down a bit of aluminium bar to 0.630", added a 10 degree taper and put a hole through it for a fixing bolt. No specific design in mind, just enough to align the seal correctly and guide it into place without damaging it.

If you don't have access to a lathe, you can buy the tool fairly cheaply from most Meriden Triumph parts suppliers.

What were your symptom's of the split seal? Do you know what the diameter of the crank is where it goes into the seal as I think mine may have been ground down. I know that you can fit 20thou undersize seals but I could really do with knowing what the normal diameter is. Thanks for posting the videos they're great.

I’ll be honest I don’t know the size of the seals off the top of my head. Split seals will give you a drop in oil pressure, mine started to come on when the bike was hot and the oil thinned a little allowing it to blow past the seal.
