Triumph Bonneville T140v - Part 15 - Handlebar Swap!!

In this video we swap out the low British Spec bars for the higher North American export bars for the 1977 Triumph T140v. This effort involves removal of all of the controls, fitting a new longer clutch cable, and reassembly.

Good job! I’ve put western bars on my T140, not too high, not to low, but nice and wide. I also fitted a Norman Hyde one piece braided hose for the brakes, front and rear. Gets rid of all that plumbing up front. Thanks for your effort, a relaxing watch even though I’ve done this job myself!

@droidster888, that's great that you also have a T140 and put western bars on yours as well! Like you I really enjoy the riding position much better than the UK spec low bars mine came with. I am always a big fan of western bars. Did it on my 2019 RE Interceptor (650cc), 1968 Triumph T100S (500cc) and now will be doing it on my 1977 TR7RV (750cc) but there is something appealing and aggressive look that comes with short handle bar.

@ownersguides, I totally agree. The western bars provide a much better riding position and experience, but the low UK spec bars are admittedly much cooler and more aggressive looking. I had to put higher bars on my T140V. Switched from 25" W flat drag bars, to a 5" rise similar to yours, also 25" W. When I was young I could easily crane my neck to look forward. Not any more. Higher bars fixed that. See my videos for close look.

Hi @Zulutime44, that's cool that you've essentially done similar to myself, changing out the low bars for ones with a higher rise. They definitely make the bike nicer to ride in my opinion. If I was 25 years old I might have a different opinion, but at this point I am much happier with the more upright riding position. Interesting that you found bars with a 25" span. Mine are 29" with 8" rise but 9" sweep back, or thereabouts so at the grips they are closer to 5" high, similar to yours. Great video by the way! I watched the full video and have subscribed. I went opposite, from US bars to Euro on my R75. For me it was better.

Hi @louisrauzi3872, there's no question (IMHO) that the bike looks cooler with the lower bars. One of the great things about the zen of motorcycle maintenance is that you can make the bike your own with a few mods or changes.
