I rode this bike for 70km of motorway and then went for 10 minutes of urban riding followed by 10 minutes of twisties followed by 10 minutes of urban riding which was then followed by 70km on the motorway bringing it back to the 1000PS.at office. I only did it for you guys ;)

Nice video Schaaf, thanks! 👍 Personnal opinion incoming: I picked up my XE last Friday and rode 850km since. Before this bike, I owned a CBF500 for 40000km and 2 Street Triple (both 675R and 765RS, 35000km) that I rode every day and I have to say that I respectfully do not agree with your conclusion. Trust me I deeply love my Street RS and it is really a pain to see it go but since I can't own two bikes yet, I convinced myself to sell it because I knew I needed a more versatile bike. Which the Scrambler 1200 is. It's capable enough to be ridden both on and off-road, something I would not even think about doing with my Striple. That bike was designed to do both and can easily deal with crashes in the dirt. I actually ride it harder than the Street on most roads since it gives me more confidence when the pavement surface is not perfect (the Street is better on good road surfaces though, not denying that of course ^^). It can handle a good amount of luggage on the back without looking weird, has a much more confortable straight riding position for longer rides and nice additional features (cruise control 👌). All these things can be done on a Tiger 800 XCA, no doubt. I actually hesitated for two months before I made my decision. Two keys aspects lead me to get the Scrambler : the great fun factor (the torque and sound are just... 😍) and the gratifying looks. Coming from the sexy RS, in my eyes at least, I wanted to still like the aesthetics of my motorcycle every time I open the garage. Which is every single day. And I'm not a hispter by any means. I agree with the wind buffeting though, it can and probably will wear you down above 120km/h speed. Last be not least: the exhaust heat is not a deal breaker in my opinion. The last weeks temperatures have been 32+°C (southwest of France) so yes, you can feel it's hot when you're stopped, but just stick out your right knee by like 10-15cm and it's fine. It's not even noticeable when riding above 30km/h since you don't squeeze the sides like on a naked or sports bike. Soooo my point is, I think the Scrambler 1200XE is a great, fun and capable all-rounder, not just an expansive, Bonneville-looking poser. Keep up doing great looking and sounding vids ✌️

I, too, have a Street Triple RS I absolutely love, but damn if I haven't found myself intrigued by the idea of this bike. Many of the "fun" roads around me are a bit choppy, and much better suited for my WR450F supermoto I've had for nearly 8 years. But, that bike is not suitable for long distance rides... I feel like the Scrambler 1200 (specifically XC) is the ultimate bike to bridge the gap-able to eat up choppy back roads just like my WR but with much more powa!

My XE and I have a 42 mile commute to work in the morning...all slab. On the way home everyday...I get off the freeway after a few miles and take the back roads home. Essentially what you rode here. I’ve had my XE for 4 months now, and at 5,000 miles...she’s by far the best motorcycle I’ve ever owned. Also...I disagree with your review, but to each their own. I live in the PNW and ride my XE off road a lot. Fire roads, Loam, mud, dirt...the suspension works fantastic on ALL surfaces. I see a lot of complaining about the suspension and I still can’t figure out what they’re talking about. I’m 250lbs so maybe that’s it?! Ride On!🤙🏾

I don't agree with you here. I think the scrambler does a superb job of bringing joy to all senses. To compare it to other adventure bikes is not fair, since 90% of them are butt-ugly and I wouldn't be caught dead on one of them. What you call posing I call aesthetic value, and for me that is immensely important. This is a beautiful machine.

You are questioning reasons to own a scrambler, as they are “posers bikes” and an adventure style bike does a better job. Well, your right, but you can add that tag to all bikes, be it custom, sports, trail, etc, etc. Very few rider actually use them for what the manufacturers market them as. Every adventure bike is heavily promoted and reviewed predominantly Offroad by journalists, but only a tiny minority that are bought go anywhere near a bit of dirt. How many superbikes with their 200 plus horsepower are used on the track, but all the advertising vids and photos show them on race tracks with the riders knee dragging. The truth is, buy the bike YOU like, because you like it, for how it rides, how it looks and it fit your needs, not because some marketing?PR bod tells you what its made for. Just because the scrambler doesn’t have a large screen doesn’t mean you cant tour on it 30 or more years ago most bikes didn’t have fairings or screens, or panniers, didn’t stop most people touring, the tyres were generally not that good either and suspension wasn’t brilliant, didn’t stop riders ring flat out scraping the pegs etc. The Triumph scrambler is a very capable bike and with a few mods, would make a great touring bike, its pretty quick and comfortable, handles very well and would a great all round bike. Yes there are bikes that would do some things better, but if the styling is to your liking, thats a good reason to buy one (and you dont have to wear a pisspot on your head, a Belstaff jacket and denim jeans to ride one either, but if you do, thats fine by me). At the end of the day 😉😄, its your money, you worked hard for it, so spend it on what makes you happy 😄

I traded my street triple for the XC, love it so far. way smoother on bumpy roads and ofc some light offroad. The map around where I live just opened up a whole lot, exploring gravel,fire roads. A tiger 900 would do that too, and is a more practical bike. But it doest make me feel like a kid again :D

Slowing down because you knew there was a cyclist ahead? Kudos you to you my friend. It’s nice to see someone who can appreciate we all SHARE the road and that some of us use it in more ways than one. Clearly you don’t come my land down-under! I get the poser element to your review (one reason I’m apprehensive about buying one) but I was wondering what the roads you regularly ride are like? In Australia ours are terrible, and yes I’m talking about the paved ones (the dirt is even worse; corrugations for miles-and-miles sound fun to anyone?) and I’m thinking that the suspension travel/damping compromise might make more sense down here - most Adv. bike reviews down here note there ability to keep sport bikes honest in the twistys due to road conditions.
@Schaaf
@Schaaf 6 ай бұрын
They definitely make more sense on terrible roads but that's when I'd get any ADV over this. But yes, if you want style and suspension travel, it's the only option you have.

Great sound..I enjoyed that!. Your conclusion was a bit harsh....but there's some truth in it I'm afraid. I rode the Scrambler, loved the looks and the feel of it, but coming from an adventure bike I can't ignore the real world short comings....the windblast over 70mph is immense and a long ride in the rain would be pretty miserable. But ....if you like the bike enough you can put up with anything! Cheers, Steve

Amazing bike with so much raw power. I'm 5'8 so I'm not sure about the extra bulk/weight of a 1200 over a 900, especially going off road gravel roads as I used to do with R80GS, Triumph Tiger Trail 82,R1000GS and Honda XLV750.

Same opinion! Had a Bonneville in the past, that I rebuild to a Scrambler... I have some dirtbike experience and took the Bonnie offroad for a couple of times and every time I broke something... Adventure bikes do it so much better. I also had a testride with this one, and the fork, damn, on the road it just sucks. Yes you can ride it hard if you got the skills, but when you got skills you can ride every bike hard, doesnt mean you enjoy it.

I am definitely one of those who find an application for this bike. I live in Russia and I love to explore stuff around town. Some of the roads down in the woods are nothing but a dirt track so I need a capable bike to do so. I repaired my front forks 3 times on my road bike trying to do half of what I want. However I don't like how enduro bikes look and the Scrambler does it for me. So I get a bike that looks fine to catch a coffee and that can take me wherever I want to go. To me it's about enduro looking and sounding cool and a street bike that can do stuff. 10/10 One thing I would love is some more power higher in the RPM but I am exploring the topic with different crank, exhaust and engine tuning. Legend has it that you can get around 115hp out of the motor quite easily which is plenty provided that you're not inclined towards riding 200+ kmh with your arse above your head.

The exhaust for me is not that bad, I can live with the hot exhust, as I hardly use the bike in cities. Handling at low speeds is decent, at high speeds is not existent. I tried to ride this thing as hard as my old tiger 800 and I almost shit my pants because I didn't feel any grip. Maybe I just need to gain more skills with my new Scrambler, but for now I can only repeat what Schaaf was mentioning: this bike is more likely a poser bike than a fun bike. Anyway, I love it, I love the looks, the feel, the sound, the seating positionm and it puts a smile on my face every time I ride it. It's a great dirt bike, and it has very good suspension for shitty roads, or no roads. For those who are at least 80% road oriented, you should check the XC version, or just pick the Tiger 900 GT Pro, which is also a fabulous bike with more practicality. Oh, and one more thing: those Metzeller Tourance stock tyres are two pieces of SHIT on this bike. So as soon as I wear them down, I will switch to Anakee III or Anakee Wild, at least they have some grip in all weather condotions.

I think you were too harsch on that motorbike opinion. Well, I am a 44 yo guy , 190cm tall and 115 kg weight. I decided to come back to motorbikes after a 10 years brake (kids, house and duties). And I decided to buy 1200 XE - there are not so much bikes for tall guys that are not from the adventure section, and with retro look (don't like the sharp edges of 90% of modern naked bikes) - for me this bike is perfect. Buy I also ride bikes to feel some unconfort , for a smooth everyday drive I have my Grand cherokee with AC and all that comfy stuff :)

The new Triumph twins sound amazing, how a bike should sound. For some reason, for me, the 900 sounds even better than the 1200.

Awesome video!, was wondering how you managed to capture the sound so well. I tried to also use an external mic (Zoom GO wireless) but I got so much mechanical noise from my Scrambler 1200 XE. I placed the mic in my bag pack. I hope its not just my bike thats making to much mechanical noise, seems to be from engine area.
@Schaaf

no idea about that. I captured the sound exactly how it's linked and explained in my tutorial video inside the description :)

Daver, the 1200 (motor itself) is waaaaaay mechanically noisy...what your likely picking up is injector noise. At 9,000 miles, mine have finally started to quiet down...more like change in sound. All of my other Triumphs (Hinkley) have been carbureted, so the clinking and tapping was new to me when I bought my XE. After a few conversations with my shop dealer tech I BS with when I stop by, he assured me it was the injection system that causes all of that noise. Now if you’re getting a lot of mechanical noise aft of the rider position...it could still carry backwards towards your mic, since I can’t think of anything back there that would be “noisy”...other than the exhaust of course. Ride on!

@@oso_nomada Thanks for reply Mondo, humm maybe you are right about the injectors. I've ordered myself an external mic and will record some footage/audio. I'll post that soon. I'll show it to my shop dealer also and see if they might know what it might be.

Do you remember your vitpilen 701 video? I am asking because thanks to you, i got the 701, but now i think i am ready to get this scrambler 1200 and i was wondering how is the low speed torque compared to the 701?✌️

Sounds amazing, looks beautiful, and Schaaf manages to ride it hard. Still, I agree that I’d never want to ride it off-road, for fear of ruining the beautiful paint job. Too much of a compromise for a cool looking, but impractical road bike.

I think your riding skills are a little above average. The more average rider would have plenty of fun on the road with this bike. As you stated: all elements are there: sound, torque, engine, revs. That it does not work for you, is absolutely fine of course. But I think if you like the looks of the bike and have the money, it could be perfect. Saying this bike is a "poser" bike just sounds a little sad... Like your video's a lot, though! Keep up the good work

it's a Poser for 95% of the users. If you're happy with riding a Poser than that's fine. Fortunately we ourselves can choose the bikes we want to ride

I've had a Scrambler since 2006 and bought it because of it throwback to bikes from the 70s or so, seeing as I grew up on an old japanese CB90. It also had the ability to hit some gravel roads. And I've done a ton of that in the 6 or so years I've had this bike. But more and more I'm like, this bike does a couple things below average and only one thing good, pose. I get conversations all the time at the gas pump, people always come up to me at the store. But in the gravel, it does.....okay. On the roads, it's fun, but not amazing. So what do i do? Do I get rid of this bike I completely love for something better suited for at least one of them? I don't know. Damnit.

How is the handling, for example, compared to the Speed Twin or the Street Triple RS, is there much difference? I test drived the Speed Twin 1200 and i loved the sound and torquey engine, it allowed me to have fun without having to break speed limits. by much.
@Schaaf

Yes, big difference. A tall Scrambler will never feel as planted on the road as a naked does

Hi Schaaf, I've contacted you before about video creation which was a great help! I've got a quick one for you, how do you test ride all those bikes, do you just contact the dealership in advance and test ride them? A lot of dealerships in my area in Ireland do not let test ride new motorcycles despite you want to buy one.
